it's genuinely frightening how many "leftist activists" seem to be, above all else, downright chomping at the bit to find groups of people they think they're allowed to hurt. some of you are downright enthusiastic about finding targets, more than you are about doing anything to lift up marginalized communities, and then some of the targets you find are marginalized communities. like wow asshole good job shitting on "weird queers" that's awesome you're really helping everyone out here that's great. great job talking about all the horrible things you hope happen to the powerless citizens of a country that's doing terrible things, you're really showing a lot of compassion, talking about how you hope they all die. You understand that they are also human beings.
like dude fuck off. human rights are for all humans even the ones you don't like

The silm fandom is so funny yall will literally try to draw moral equivalencies between a character who was kinda mean to ur blorbo and literal war criminals lmao.
Like the list of grievances against Thingol is:
- kinda arrogant
- didn’t give the fancy gem back to the ppl who murdered his brother’s people
- Banned the language of said murderers bc there is literally no policy precedent for this kinda thing since mass murder hadn’t existed up until now.
- Didn’t want his only child to marry a mortal man and risk never seeing her again. (He got over it btw)
And then the ppl they’re saying he’s just as bad if not worse than have:
-committed not one, not two, but THREE kinslayings
-had a secret city where you’ll be killed if you wanna leave.
-literally attacked a refugee camp
Like am I missing something here?? Thingol’s greatest sin is that he’s arrogant and kinda haughty, no shit Sherlock he’s a king and managed to rizz a goddess, I’d think I’m the shit too but last I checked he didn’t kill anyone.
#the silm fandom on tumblr is honestly insane#its less looking at canon and more people erasing canon in favor of stuff they made up#honestly kind of drives me mad

was thinking about how elrond is kind of the central character in tolkiens legendarium, and like damn HE REALLY IS. even though he might not be as old as some other more “accomplished” characters, he outlived most of them. he’s literally connected to everyone, all the main stories of the silm i can find MINIMUM one character he has a relationship with (and it’s usually more!). like, he’s connected to beren and luthien (b&l > dior & nimloth > elwing & eärendil), he’s connected to the fall of gondolin (eärendil), he’s connected to the fall of numenor (elros + descendants), of course he’s connected to the feanorians through maglor, to the house of finarfin through celebrian, connected to children of hurin through thingol (explained above) and finduilas who is his cousin (in some way idk how family trees work). LITERALLY even connected to the AINUR by being part maia. this man has fucking CONNECTIONS. and by the third age he’s just hanging out ruling the most chill elf settlement in the last two ages while glorfindel (shiniest elf in arda hello, fucking slayer of balrogs if you even care) hangs out in the corner. HE ESTABLISHES THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING YOU GUYS. HIS ACTIONS INDIRECTLY DESTROY SAURON. HES A PEREDHEL. ON BOTH SIDES. HIS EXISTENCE UNITES MEN AND ELVES EVERYONE 👏 ARE WE PAYING ATTENTION

A quick post about swords today for writing reference. Swords have a point of percussion. This spot is where the force of impact is strongest. It depends on a few things: the length and width of the blade; the shape of the blade; and the point of balance for the sword. To find the point of percussion take your sword in one hand and slap the flat of the blade with your other. The blade will wobble, except where the point of percussion is. Usually, a few inches back from the tip. This is most visible on flexible training swords, but even stiffer swords used for war will vibrate in the same manner when struck. Why is any of this important? If you want a sword to cut through muscle and bone it has to hit the spot at the point of percussion to have the best chance of doing so. Obviously it can be done anywhere along the blade depending on what bone is hit, strength of wielder, etc. Likewise it's not going to magically cut through plate armour. It's just something to bear in mind when writing your fight scenes. Happy writing.

“Every character in the Silmarillion has so many names” factoid actually a statistical error. Most characters in the Silmarillion don’t have more than one or two names. Túrin Neithan Gorthol Agarwaen son of Úmarth Adanedhel Mormegil Thurin Wildman of the Woods Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga, who lived in a cave and has ten names, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.
