Building a rocket engine
4 posts
Hello,For those new to the blog my goal is to build a miniature rocket engine that runs on propane and compressed air using a coaxial swirl injector design.I will be doing my best to keep you updated on my progress weekly.

Testing
the 3d print has finished and I have tested to see if the outer channel works using a garden hose, unfortunately, the hose width was not wide enough to fit snugly in the hole for the inner channel however it did fit in the outer channel and it worked (yay). also, I think I'm going to start designing version 3 which will be only one part and is as compact as possible almost entirely because it looks better and because if there's less to machine it will cost less.

Redesign
apologies for the wait, there hasn't been a lot of progress so I've been delaying making a new post, anyway, now I do! So down to business, I realized the old design was way too overcomplicated as it really didn't need to be split into 4 parts so the new design only uses 2. I also realized I needed to shrink the opening as air compressors are nowhere near how powerful I thought they were, so the new one has a much smaller opening so the engine won't drain the air supply instantly.

ok, first progress report. I've been designing the injector in fusion360 as shown in the diagram showing a cross section of the design, this will be responsible for delivering the fuel(propane) and the oxidizer(compressed air) into the combustion chamber. the idea is to have the fuel and oxidizer spinning in different directions, and intersect them as they enter the combustion chamber to break the surface tension and get lots of tiny particles, which means more surface area and better mixing of fuels, if you want more information I recommend Integza's video as well as copenhagensuborbitals and Scott Manley, all of which have been integral sources of information for this project and in Integza's case, the inspiration for it.

First post (yay)
Hello, I'm basically talking to no one currently for obvious reasons.
anyway, first update (for more details see description) I've downloaded fusion360 for the design of the swirl injector.
