Last week was a bit slower on the preorder front, but I still added some new books to my library! I’m really excited for If We Survive This because it reminds me a lot of another LGBTQ horror book I read and adored.
Which books are you adding to your TBR at the end of June? 📚✨

You can teleport one (1) single individual live seagull into any time or place in history. Where would you choose to put it to best fuck with peoples' heads and cause as much confusion as possible?
I'd pick Tutankhamun's tomb, just behind the sealed door, 30 seconds before the seal is broken and the tomb is opened. Imagine throwing that into the curse myth - just as these people are about to crack open the greatest cold one in history, knowing that this is what they'll be known for from hereon, they open the door that must not be opened, and out scatters a frantic, deeply baffled bird, entirely healthy and intact, fluttering away never to be seen again, with no apparent way of how it got in.

Recently Read: The Female Quixote by Charlotte Lennox - 4 stars
Her Ideas, from the Manner of her Life, and the Objects around her, had taken a romantic Turn; and, supposing Romances were real Pictures of Life, from them she drew all her Notions and Expectations. By them she was taught to believe, that Love was the ruling Principle of the World; that every other Passion was subordinate to this; and that it caused all the Happiness and Miseries of Life.

JOMP BPC - 18th July - Well-loved
This copy of Pride and Prejudice is well-loved and looks it! It's had quite a full life - published in 1961, it was originally a library copy which was then withdrawn from stock and sold. I think I bought it in the mid-80s for something like 20p - it was already fairly beaten up when I got it. Also, it's an american edition and I live in the uk, so I'm not quite sure how it found its way here!

Notes, last read and doggo beloved <3
18|07|2025
Today I continued working for my anthropology of religions exam. I copied notes and continued reading the book. I struggled a bit more to stay focused by I still think I can finish working on it by the end of next week. My afternoon was fully dedicated to dogsitting my brother's puppy. We played in the garden, ran around despite the heat, and imply hang out all afternoon. I got so many cuddles from the puppy, it was so healing. This dog is bringing so much joy and love in my life. I didn't do anything else other than staying with the puppy, my brain did not think one single serious thought, and overall it felt incredibly recharging. I am now physically exhausted but I am feeling good.

JOMPBPC • July 15 • Couldn’t Put Down
Network Effect by Martha Wells
I’m blaming my need of a very large cold brew this morning on the fact that I had to force myself to put this down and go to sleep super late last night. All of the Murderbot books just suck you in to the fast paced story, but this particular one has gripped me for the last 24 hours, reading it at any moment I can.
