I am genuinely considering trying my hand at writing, because I've built up this whole narrative of rook being Emmrich's child. Like the maladaptive day dreaming is out of CONTROL. But I'm in so deep and I want to write it down, which it's safe to note I'm not good at. I draw details but painting a picture? Untouched lands fs. But I can ALSO safely say I'm dumb enough to try. It's story boarding time and work is slow. I'll post the general beat down if anyone is curious, but I'm not gonna spam feed with blind confidence. So uh yeah, wish my cringe as luck cause we going in blind.

This being the next post is my version of duality of man.

Emmrich jerking off to intrusive Rook thoughts pre-relationship is so important to me. This man is all gentlemanly restraint by day, but the second he wakes up hard from a dream about them? Instant moral crisis. He tries to fight it. He loses. Every time.

He tries, oh he tries to be a good man. Tells himself it’s wrong, that Rook deserves better than some depraved, desperate fucker getting off to the thought of them. But his cock doesn’t give a shit about honor.

Post-nut clarity hits like a goddamn truck. He looks at his own mess like it’s a fucking Rorschach test and somehow sees a wedding ring in it. He hasn’t even kissed Rook yet, but he’s here nutting and contemplating joint taxes.

Please write more of this because I’ve already consumed everything available, and I am starving.

I am sobbing, I'm sorry to ruin the 777 BUT AH

ALSO Emmrich Volkarin is in the prime of his life so jot that down. His lifestyle is healthy as hell, he's wealthy and a MAGE. There's lore, iirc, that mages live longer than most on average. What I'm trying to say is that my man is going to live to be 110. Running circles around people half his age the entire time. He teaches until he's 90 and then he and a 70-year-old Rook go on the Thedas equivalent of one of those year-long cruises where they just go to a different major Thedosian city every week. Every year on his nameday he pats his grandchildren on the head and tells them that, while it may be his last birthday in the realm of the living, he's so glad he got to spend time with them. He gets weapy about it. He does this until said grandchildren are well into their twenties. Emmrich dies quickly without much malingering of some sort of fast illness, or maybe goes quietly and painlessly in his sleep, at WELL OVER 100, I cannot stress this enough, and then they pop him in his sarcophagus and his ghost haunts the Necropolis for a few years, unseen but felt by the sudden rushes of warmth and affection his family will sometimes feel on rainy days. Rook goes at a similarly advanged age and as the world fades out, Emmrich's face fades in--smiling, beautiful, looking exactly as he did when they met. Because Emmrich at 52 is in the prime of his life, goddamn it, and I will die on this hill.

Ah yes, thank you for this not at all thought consuming material.

I don’t think romanced emmlich is going to lose himself to grief when Rook passes away but I do think he’s going to get really eccentric with how he honours them as the years go on.

Like I’m talking everyone just know that once a year Lich Lord Volkarin has a three week leave where he goes and lies perfectly still in next to Rook’s skeleton in their sarcophagus just like he would have if the two of them had been buried together. He’s fine and very obviously not dead but if you try to talk to him he will not answer because that goes against the spirit of the thing.

It’s definitely weird in a way that makes you wonder if someone should maybe consider inventing therapy in Thedas but ultimately it is a harmless coping mechanism so they just let him keep at it. One year some of his students come to “mourn” him and leave some flowers at “his” and Rook’s grave he is genuinely moved by the gesture.

So I've done the math and I have read roughly 758,000 words worth of Emmrich fics of varying degrees with no end in sight in the last 48 hours.

Now your may be thinking, yes that IS a reasonable amount. But I think I can touch the sun if I continue on.

The goal? Delusion.

The means? Justified.

The thirst? Unquenchable.

After Veilguard, Manfred continues to learn and grow just as he did before, as a being in the living world and also as a mage.

And he starts to gain more independence, and to learn from teachers apart from Emmrich.

And, eventually, he becomes a full member of the Mourn Watch, and then a senior member.

And he takes on his own proteges, spirit and living, and teaches them everything he’s learned.

And, one day, Emmrich dies.

And Manfred, as his son, tends to his body and his grave with the same reverence for the honored dead that Emmrich taught him.

And as long as Manfred remains in the world, he carries on Emmrich’s legacy in his own actions and those of his endless chain of students, each one given the love and care and support that were the foundational gifts his father gave him.

This, too, is immortality.
