Post-Season Slump
It’s now November and for most participants of the marching arts world, you know what that means— the end of the season. With the end of the season either here or approaching, depending on where you live, a lot of things can I happen. I find that I tend to be more emotionally down because I’m no longer getting the exercise and social interaction that I’ve become so dependent on. So I am going to give you guys some tips to survive the post-season slump.
Stay in touch! This may seem obvious, but it’s so easy to fall out of contact with the people we used to see almost daily. In order to prevent this, keep up the conversation. A “how are you?” text every once and a while can truly make a difference.
Stay in shape! Just because you won’t be sweating it out on the field anymore doesn’t mean you should stop getting in that daily exercise. It probably won’t be as fun now, but it can yield a lot of benefits. You’ll feel a lot better and do a lot better in the next season if you’re already in shape. 15-30 minutes of cardio can be difficult to fit into a busy schedule, but if you break it up over the day and commit it is achievable.
Stay hydrated! It’s not healthy to go from drinking a gallon of water a day to very little within a week. Your body and mind will thank you if you just keep drinking water as often as possible.
Practice, practice, practice! Whether you play an instrument or spin equipment, practice is very important. It will make sure that you maintain the skills you spent almost six months honing so you can get better and better with each season.
Pick up new hobbies! You may find that you have a lot of extra time on your hands now that it’s over. This is a great opportunity to do new things and learn new skills. Join clubs at school, volunteer with organizations, or even get a job if you can. These things will allow you to make sure that you are making good use of your time.
I hope you guys find this helpful and I hope you had a great season this year. Feel free to DM us with any questions. Like and reblog!
~Maia~

So the season is over...
And if you’re like me, you might not be able to do whatever your band program does in the winter. Let’s be quite honest here, the post-band sadness sucks. Fortunately, you can get through and the next season will be soon to come. Here are some tips:
- Mope around. You can lounge around the house for a while and be sad, but don’t do this for too long. A month at most is ideal, try for less if you can.
- Practice! Okay so you probably don’t have a show or a routine that you should be practicing, but you can still hone your basic skills and try to acquire new ones. For you guard members, there are so many channels on YouTube that just focus on guard and how to improve upon and gain skills. Check them out! I want to join weapon line next year and I am currently in the process of buying weapons to practice with for the time being. Check out DSI.com or Amazon. For those of you who play instruments, ask your director about things that you can practice and such. I play cello (not a band instrument, I know) and my teacher always has stuff that I can practice. SO don’t be afraid to ask.
- Pick up a new hobby or activity! Maybe you want something else to do other than marching band, how about trying a new activity? Try something that you are interested in and that will keep you occupied. Pick up a new instrument if you want to. The possibilities are infinite..
- Meet new people! Meeting new people can be a great way to fill the amount of free time you will have, and trust me you WILL have a LOT of free time. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and just have a good time and find new people.
- Enjoy time to yourself! So it’s a possibility that you may be tired of always being around people even though they’re amazing and a great time to be around. That’s okay! Enjoy your new-found free time by watch a Netflix marathon, write a book on Wattpad, read all the fan fiction you want (wink, wink Ariana), or whatever you want to do. The choice is totally up to you.
Whatever you do to get over your post-season depression, just remember to stay active, hydrated, and if you can help it happy. If none of these tips work, just remember that it will be okay and another season is coming.
Xoxo, Maia

I would REALLY appreciate it if some of you would donate to my GoFundMe. I’m trying so hard to get into a corps this year, but I need some support. Thank you!❤

instruments as trumpets see them
french horn: weird, unbalanced, awkward instruments that should not exist
tuba: big hunk of brass that sounds like an elephant
euphonium: smaller tuba
flute: don't know, never heard one
mellophone: less awesome trumpet
trombone: we drift from gods light every day because of trombones
saxophone: only good for jazz
clarinet: wood stick that screeches a lot
oboe: clarinets that insist on being weird
bassoon: basically water buffalos as instruments
percussion: abuse of random objects

Instruments as flutes see them
Piccolo: annoying little sibling in instrument form
Flute: God's gift to band
Clarinet: squeaky lil wood sticks
Saxophone: sound good until you talk to the person playing them
Oboe: better when they're not there so we can play their solos
Bassoon: some sort of strange mythical creature
Trumpet: I guess they're ok but couldn't they just... Play quieter??
Horn: nearly perfect. restores our faith in the brass section
Trombone: just kidding about that faith in the brass section
Euphonium: smol tuba
Tuba: I don't know, they're too far back for me to see one
Percussion: just stop ok
