I decided that I would write a short review of each season (I thought about it only after making the first batch of episodes, but it's not a problem and it's even better that I'm doing it now on the day the first season was completed)

let's start, season one

season one is a good start it introduced us to new characters (especially Clover) and showed our three lemurs from tpom in a whole new light, especially King Julien and introduced us to this interesting world of King Julien's kingdoms from Madagascar

of course he's not perfect with Early-Installment Weirdness appearing this season, of course that's normal, the writing team was practically throwing things at the wall and seeing what would stick, you can see it most with Clover, you can see that they were still trying to establish her character traits

still it's a solid start to a great series

my favorite episode from this season is "The Really Really Big Lie" I don't know why I just like this episode especially the interactions between KJ and Clover

Theme 11 Lemurs - All Hail King Julien

today, 10 years ago was the start of a new era, and a new King Julien

10 years ago All Hail King Julien was released for the first time and it changed our lives

we were introduced to a new character Clover who very quickly won the hearts of many fans, and we were introduced to the rest of the kingdom

but we also saw King Julien in a new light, we saw him intelligent, and caring for others, a real leader and not a joke from TPoM

i have to admit something i didn't watch AHKJ right after it was released (which i regret a lot) only later i don't remember exactly when i think after season two was released

after AHKJ was released it created a small but loyal group of fans here on Tumblr

and today we celebrate the 10th anniversary of All Hail King Julien

toast to a great show toast to great fans toast to 10 years a toast to another 10 years

and with that we end 2024MadagascarParty it was a great three weeks and one day

Theme 10 Alternate Universe - What if

ok what i want to write today would fit better with the "what if" theme but it didn't win so let it be

DreamWorks Animation Television shows can be divided into two periods

the first which i call the Nickelodeon period

it consists of three shows The Penguins of Madagascar Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness Monsters vs. Aliens

The above shows are characterized by being episodic, having self-contained stories with no ongoing plot line and character development, you can literally watch the episodes in almost any order you want

The second period I call the Netflix period

This includes shows like these Dinotrux Trollhunters Fast & Furious Spy Racers Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous

These shows are characterized by being very serialized stories, having ongoing plot lines going from the first episode to the last and ongoing character development

There is one show from the Netflix period called The Adventures of Puss in Boots

This show is quite interesting because its first season was released on January 16, 2015 (technically it was released in three parts of 5 episodes each throughout 2015)

and was very episodic with no ongoing plot and self-contained episodes

The second season was released in December 11, 2015 and the show changed from episodic to serialized with an ongoing storyline until the final episode

the above show represents a transitional moment between the two periods

when Mitch Watson originally pitched AHKJ to DreamWorks Animation Television he wanted a more serialized show which he described as a game of thrones with lemurs, but the exes at DreamWorks Animation Television, while they liked the idea of ​​a King Julien show, had him change it to a more episodic show

and while we got a taste of a more serialized AHKJ in the form of Exiled, the writing team proved they could do a serialized story in the show they did after AHKJ called Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny

you've probably read this far and are wondering what this has to do with "what if"

you see All Hail King Julien was released on December 19, 2014

if Mitch Watson had waited a few more months to pitch AHKJ to DreamWorks Animation Television they might have been more receptive to his original plan and not had him turn it into an episodic show like we got instead

imagine a serialized AHKJ with an ongoing plot lines and character development

just imagine what could have been

Theme 9 Redemption

for today's theme I decided to write about a certain fanfic titled

"Have Yourself a Merry Julien Christmas" by GregTheGroovy

this is a finished fic and additionally a Christmas themed fic, I highly recommend reading it especially since there will be spoilers in this analysis

but first what is this fic about

snow fell in the kingdom (and it is never explained how it happened, it just fell and that's it, and it didn't melt throughout the story) after King Julien found out from Timo what this white thing was he also found out about a human holiday called Christmas and was so interested in it that he decided to take this Christmas and share it with the whole kingdom by organizing various Christmas games and fun for the next few days

ok now that you know what this fic is about, go read it because this is where the spoilers start

this is your last warning

during the game KJ and the rest have a little fun in battle Karl appeared on the snow and spoiled their fun hoping for another confrontation with his greatest nemesis King Julien, in short it ended with Karl falling in a flying chair into a frozen lake and Karl and Chauncey almost drowned which shocked Karl a lot, King Julien said a few harsh words in anger towards Karl who ran away after that

some time later King Julien felt bad about what he said and wanted to apologize to Karl for those harsh words, which was overheard by Chauncey who was sent by Karl to spy

the next day during Christmas dinner Karl met King Julien and they had a heart to heart talk during which Karl admitted that he always envied King Julien for having friends and King Julien apologized to him for ignoring him in the lemur school, and they reached an agreement that Karl would take the path of a villain and King Julien proposed to him friendship

some time later King Julien and the gang have a serious problem and Karl is instrumental in solving it (even if the kingdom will never know about it)

I'll say this because I like the Karl-Mageddon episode and the idea that King Julien outsmarted Karl

this fic is on a completely different level and is a great redemption story for Karl

and the bonus redemption at the end of the fic Crimson appeared in it, and she and Clover had a heart-to-heart with each other that maybe they'll try to bury the hatchet between them and take the first step to healing their relationship,

so two redemptions in one fic

Theme 8 Human AU

on the theme of human au I decided to write about a certain mistake that artists who make humanized versions of King Julian, Maurice, Mort, Clover and other lemurs make

they make them as black-skinned Africans

the logic is very simple Madagascar is near Africa and is included on the map of Africa, in Africa there live black-skinned Africans conclusion, in Madagascar there also live black-skinned Africans

this is faulty reasoning and shows a lack of knowledge about the history of Madagascar

let me make you aware of the truth the first people who colonized Madagascar were of Austronesian origin (the same group that colonized Hawaii)

then other ethnic groups appeared but for now I will focus on one, an East African group called Bantu

currently most of the population of Madagascar are people who are a mix between Austronesian and Bantu

the largest ethnic group are Merina people who are more Austronesian with only a little Bentu this group is dominant and is where the kings of Madagascar come from

there are many more ethnic groups in Madagascar characterized by varying degrees of mixing Austronesian and Bentu

the conclusion is, stop making the human version of Lemurs as black-skinned Africans

Theme 7 Family

on tvtropes there is a trope called Found Family/Family of Choice

this trope in short is about two or more people who are not related to each other forming a family like a bond between them

this trope has a subtrope called Found Family via Work this trope is about people who have jobs together, work together/work for each other and form family bonds

this is the royal trio (quartet)

let's see in order

Maurice was hired by Uncle King Julien to take care of the then Prince Julien

however as time passed he and the Prince became closer to the point that they became family in fact in the first episode Maurice said

"Immediate family only, which means, well, me,"

this is a quote directly from the episode King Me

now Clover she started working for the previous king as his personal bodyguard and head of security and when young Julien became king she simply continued her work for him now

but over time Clover became friends with King Julien Maurice and Mort

Julien and Maurice accepted her into their circle and she became part of their family

even in the episode Dance, Dance, Resolution King Julien called Clover and Maurice his family

and I'm sure even Mort is part of their family as a weird distant cousin

and that's a beautiful theme in AHKJ it tells about the adventures of a family,

a family not by blood but by choice
