i do think napoleon and illya should have hugged in the reunion movie though. or barring that and maybe more realistically i think they should have both stood there clearly waiting for the other one to hug them but not being able to bring themself to be the one who initiates it until napoleon reaches both hands out of his pockets, hesitating-- almost like he might, one arm coming up toward illya's side-- and then at the obvious last split second he changes his mind, and puts his hand on illya's shoulder, firm and lingering. and then illya slowly smiles and puts his hand over napoleon's for a minute, and they both kind of look at each other like that, and it's not exactly unguarded, but it's earnest, and it's not exactly sad, but there's something almost regretful to it. and then they both put their hands down and get back to walking and talking about the bomb i guess. the rituals needed to get a least a little bit more intricate if nothing else, is what im saying,
#napoleon being like ''you want a hot dog ?'' and then ordering one for himself and clearly forgetting his wallet and illya just stepping in#to pay for it was perfect though. spot on. no notes.#tmfu#napollya

i'll say this though the 15 years later affair (and to a lesser extent the say UNCLE affair) did make me realize that i fucking loooove thinking about napoleon and illya Old. to be clear i dont think early 50s is That old but it shows such a promising start. if thats the way theyre acting right at the start of middle age it can only get better from here. also yes to say nothing of the fact that im a huge sap and i love when a) two characters Find each other again later in life and b) have History (for better and worse) together. i love when two guys sit around and reminisce about the good old days AND old wounds AND fret over how much time they feel theyve wasted AND get excited when they realize they have more time together than they thought they were ever going to get. im only human
#tmfu#napollya#im of two minds about the implication in the 15 years later that napoleon and illya just went No contact with each other#for no actual reason (like they seem pretty happy to reconnect) for THAT LONG#on the one hand. i think if UNCLE was like ok and now that youre both out of the spy biz you can never see each other again theyd be like o#and then exploit every loophole to at the very LEAST to like. send each other letters or phone calls or something#if not find routine excuses to break into each other's apartments#on the other hand for the Drama i am more inclined to think of reasons why they wouldnt talk to each other again until fate intervened#i do buy that napoleon would get out of the spy biz before illya for sure too#i also love the implication that because illya went more solo (haha) and had a partner who he Couldnt Trust (because he wasnt napoleon)#thats when it allll went to shit for him and blew up in his face and left him so disillusioned he literally couldnt go doing it#yeah and i know its cuz the other guy was literally named like. Two-Face McAoubleDagent. i dont care#thats what happens when you try to move on with your life. the both of you. hashtag CODEPENDANCY

i can't believe it took 15 years for them to say some shit like this to each other
#dude the way they smile at each other and their voices go just that much softer. i could throw up#im not convinced napoleon wasnt moving his arm to pull illya to makeout with him crazy style instead of pushing him along#i really enjoyed this movie actually there were some boring parts but all the genuine reunion shit#firing on all cylinders. neither of them lost a step playing these guys its fantastic to see#I LOVE THEM OLD TOO... but im just a sucker personally for characters with History#and all the bittersweetness that usually implies. idk man its good#i dont think they should have gone back to spying though you two motherfuckers need to be retired in miami with a spoiled ass cat#anyway#tmfu#the man from uncle#tmfu tv#napollya#napoleon solo#illya kuryakin

how are there not a million post-the THRUSH roulette affair fics or comics or whatever about illya mulling over how he almost fucking killed napoleon. like theres a minute where he sees what he thinks is napoleon's dead body and he just goes to shamble off like its nothing. how much of all that does he even remember if any. like thats crazy.
#also the broader Intricate Rituals style implications of like#napoleon and illya just brawling with each other in that moment too#its not even clear what actually snaps illya out of the brainwashing or whatever like. napoleon doesnt say anything to him ?#at any point to try and reason to him ? or talk him down ? even when he has him pinned ? illya just kind of comes to#are we supposed to assume he was knocked around enough for it to shock him back to his senses or what cuz thats crazy.#he got put through a gazebo and no effect but napoleon lightly baps him on the cheek and then hes like oh fuck let me come too real quick#season 4 so far is the season of mostly serviceable but largely boring episodes that get so the premise-y out of nowhere for like 20 minute#man. anyway !#tmfu

the summit-five affair completely rocked me what a fucking episode. heres my absolute favorite bit from the whole thing if i must absolutely be forced to choose
#fuck dude where to even begin#illya absolutely refusing to even entertain the idea of napoleon being a double agent that solo has to clue him in on it being a farce#him catching on so quickly both of them complete executed the little fake fight without either having to say a word#illya going ''(HIT ME)'' and napoleon shaking his head and dismissing him and refusing cuz he doesnt really Want to do anything to illya#even in the interest of really selling it (which of course illya INSISTS on)#AND THEN THE MANHANDLING AT THE END. good GRIEF !!!!!!!!! what a scene. what an episode.#these are the best fucking moments in the whole show that just really show and spell out how long these two have known each other#and how in sync they are and you just get to see for yourself without having to be Told. its just good man. its so fun to watch#this is why we fucking man fom uncle baby#tmfu#tmfu tv#the man from uncle#illya kuryakin#napoleon solo#napollya

really funny seeing illya do the spock thing before spock did it like being so life alteringly popular so quickly that they have to make more and more episodes about this character and that like even his first big episode of focus was getting dosed with some fear gas that made him sad and whimpering in the corner so very naked time of him and then jill ireland looked at him and was like please.... be more human more loving for me which then brushed into levels of the surreal for someone watching this from a star trek lens and seeing only leila kulomi when she talks but the undeniable power of sad pitiful men and slash fiction really changing the entire trajectory of television shows undeniable
