Catching Smoke
Part 2 - where your escape is made impossible by an upcoming execution and commander Smoker is giving his best effort to make you feel safe
Tumblr media
As the door to Smoker's office closed behind you, you couldn't help but smirk to yourself. You had won the first round in this battle of wills with the imposing Marine commander. You knew it wouldn't be the last, but for now, you relished in the small victory.
Tashigi led you to your modest quarters within the Marine base. The room was spartan, to say the least, with just a simple bed, a small desk and a chair. Just what was to be expected in a military environment. You would have to make do, although you missed the sunny's luxurious commodities already. And Sanji's cooking.
"I hope this will be sufficient for you" Tashigi said, her voice carrying a tone of genuine concern.
"It's more than enough," you replied with a reassuring smile. "Thank you, Captain."
"Don't forget to attend breakfast at 0700 tomorrow morning," She nodded and left you to settle in. You needed to gather your thoughts and start planning your next moves. The news about Ace's execution weighed heavily on your mind. You had to tell Luffy, help him somehow.
Your first night in the marine base was full of uncertainty and fears - but also excitement about what was to come. If you could pull this off, you could return to your friends with lots of useful information. About the marine's secrets, technology and tricks.
Sleep didn't come easy in the uncomfortable marine bed and you were only able to find rest after turning and tossing for what felt like hours. An unsettling dream got hold of you, where you got chased, but you couldn't get away. There was a menacing mist, always just mere inches behind you, threatening to swallow you whole.
Groaning, you woke up. Joints aching and cracking, you peeled out of bed, feeling battered. It was far too early - but you had to get ready for breakfast and your second day at the base. Tashigi was so kind to lend you some of her clothing, just until you could buy new ones. You explained your lack of lugagge with the unreliable transport to the base, which she accepted without any further questions.
Wearing one of her pink shirts with a colorful print and white marine uniform pants, you headed out. The base was massive, a labyrinth. The small map you got handed was hard to read, so you arrived a bit late at the mess hall, where waves of grumpy soldiers munched on their rations.
You grabbed a tray of unappetizing food and scanned the room for Tashigi. She had been the most friendly person so far here, a ray of sunshine in this wretched place.
As you looked around, you spotted a familiar figure sitting alone at a corner table. It was Smoker, his two cigars smoldering as he stared into a cup of coffee. His muscular frame and stern expression made him an imposing presence even in a room full of Marines.
He had already seen you and nodded to acknoledge your presence. Not exactly your favourite breakfast company, but it wouldn't hurt to establish a rapport with him.
You walked over to Smoker's table and cleared your throat. "Commander Smoker, mind if I join you for breakfast?"
He looked up, his brown eyes locking into yours for a moment before he grunted in response and gestured to the empty chair across from him.
Taking a seat, you began to pick at your food: bland porridge, and black tea. "Long night, Commander?"
He took a sip of his coffee, his expression unreadable. "Yes, I've been catching up after you so kindly sorted out the memos for me" he said flatly.
You decided to take the opportunity to establish a friendlier tone with him. "I can't even begin to imagine the stress you must be under, chasing after pirates and all."
Smoker's gaze hardened, and he leaned forward, his voice low and serious. "This isn't just about chasing pirates. It's about justice and maintaining order in this world. To protect the people of this world from violence."
You nodded, trying to hide the fear. From what your crewmates told you, he was merciless against pirates and a tough opponent. You should never forget who you're dealing with here. "Of course, Commander."
Silence hung in the air for a moment before Smoker spoke again. "You've been doing a decent job in only the few hours you were here, Miss Y/n. I was sceptical when I heard that we're bringing in civilians for the job now, but you've surprised me."
You forced a smile. "As long as I am here, I plan to assist you in any way I can, Commander."
He grunted in acknowledgment, but couldn't hide the smile playing around his lips. "I would like to reinforce my offer for the position. I'll await your answer when I come back from the execution."
Your heart skipped a beat. The execution. You didn't know where Luffy was, you probably couldn't do anything from here to help Ace. Even if you stopped Smoker, hundreds of decorated and dangerous Marines will be present.
Smoker's brow furrowed as he continued. "This base has been lacking proper administrative support for a while now. If you decide to stay, it could help ease some of the burdens on me and Tashigi."
You weighed your options carefully. Staying on as Smoker's secretary would grant you continued access to valuable information, but it would also tie you more closely to the Marines. However, it might be the best way to protect your crewmates until you found out where they landed.
"I appreciate your offer, Commander Smoker," you replied diplomatically. "I'll give it some serious thought."
He nodded, seemingly satisfied with your response. "Good."
Silence resumed. He seemed comfortable just staring into nothing while he ate, but there was one more burning question on your mind:
"Uhm, Commander?"
"Yes, Miss?" he looked at you again.
"Where did you get that coffee? It smells good" you asked, giving in to your cravings. It didn't exactly smell delicious, but way better than stale tea.
"Oh that one? You need to ask directly to get some, it's only for higher officers. Out here, it's rationed. Stay here" he gestured for you to stay put, "I will get you some." He already moved towards the kitchen with long strides.
You waited and ate some of the porridge. Would it kill them to put something on there? Maybe some cinnamon or apples? You let the thick mass glide from your spoon back into the bowl, where it landed with a wet sound.
"Well, well, Dove, so pretty!" a smeary voice announced behind you. It was asshole-soldier from yesterday. Fuck. You looked around nervously for either Tashigi or Smoker.
"Sitting so alone? Let me help you with that" he sat down right next to you and put his arm around the backrest of your chair.
"I feel like I've seen you before? Maybe you are a pretty little pirate?" he studied your face closely as you tried not to give anything away through your expressions.
"Piss off, Soldier" you said loudly, much to the amusement of the surrounding Marines, who now turned to look at the early morning entertainment.
"This is a real marine base, for real men. Little miss secretary doesn't have any business here" the grimy one next to you said. You wanted to get up, but his arm pressed down on your shoulders.
You were outnumbered and unarmed, marine soldiers from all around got up and watched, but they unmistakebly formed a wall around you. No escape.
"We don't need no paper pusher here" one said, approaching your table.
He didn't get far though - it looked like he got stuck in something. Confused, he looked down at his feet and saw with horror the smoke gathering around his legs.
"Anything else to say, soldier?" Behind him, Smoker's towering silouette could be seen in the smoke that had built up behind the soldier.
"SIR, NO, SIR" the man suddenly saluted and stood at attention, shaking from head to toe.
"And you? I can't remember inviting you to sit at my table" He glared at the soldier next to you.
"I didn't know that this was your table, commander" He jumped up from the chair and stood very straight. "Sir, I am very sorry!"
"You two are an embarrassment for this base" Smoker's voice thundered through the whole mess hall.
For the first time, you saw his body turn into smoke from close range. His arms dematerialized and his hands shot to grab each of the officers that threatened you. He lifted them both up by their collars with ease and proclaimed, for everyone present to hear: "No one is to threaten, harm or otherwise inconvenience Miss Y/n. In fact, if anything ever happened to her, no matter what, I will punish this whole base. Is that understood?"
All the soldiers that were present saluted and confirmed his order.
"You two just lost your place at the execution. It's one week in the Brigg for each of you for this." He slammed the struggling men to the floor and they scuttled away.
Smoker sighed and sat down. The smoke receded and just his hand came flying back and put a cup of coffee on the table in friont of you. Chatter resumed, everything seemed completely normal again.
"I apologise, they shouldn't have....they are mostly good men, but rough. It will not happen again, I'll personally see to it" he looked very, very concerned that the position of his secretary will not be filled after all. But he also seemed to try his best to make you feel safe, which felt reassuring.
You tasted the coffee. It was without a doubt burned and had been cooking for a few hours, but it was comforting and hot nonetheless. Smoker also occupied himself with his cup.
"On second thought, you should come with us. It will give you the opportunity to get to know the great marine Ford!" He forced a smile to advertise the idea. Maybe he didn't trust his men quite so much after all.
It was just as well. Whatever happened there, you could only do something about it if you where present.
"Very well. It's not like I have to pack a lot." You saw his shoulders relax in relief.
"Perfect. We leave in one hour."
-----
The ship was huge, crowded and just as cold and uncomfortable as the base. So many people, so many resources.
It was hard to fight the feeling that you could be busted at any second. You looked around the marine ship: soldiers worked to steer the ship, clean the deck or seemed otherwise occupied with carrying crates or hurrying somewhere inside. You looked behind you: marine Captain Tashigi and Base commander Smoker sat at a small table behind you, drinking tea, watching their subordinates do their work. A transponder snail was on the table, ready to report any news that might come up.
Smoker
You turned again and looked out at the sea, endless blue water.
He was on edge, not only did he almost miss a summon, he also had to maneuver a civilian's special needs. A civilian he needed.
Normally, he didn't bother with the feelings of his subordinates. Or his higher-ups, for that matter. But now he had to get this woman to stay at his base by any means necessarily. So, he made a real effort to make her comfortable.
Let's see, he thought. She's about as old as Tashigi and a girl like Tashigi. So he probably shouldn't scream at her or she'll cry. He also guessed that as a civilian who has never served, he should not bark orders at her or call her names if she messed up.
He breathed out smoke from his cigars as he studied her form. She was leaning on the reiling, looking out at the open water.
What was he thinking about again? He was lost for a moment, staring at her generous ass and her arched back. Usually, he didn't care about women. He didn't think that Tashigi was cute, like his men, or that Hina was a sexbomb. Something about her was different though...
Focus, man! He told himself. He should empathise with her. What could she be feeling? Maybe she was worried. Or scared. But she didn't let much of it on, which showed him that she found strength and resolve in herself. But just in case, he should socialelize with her. Make her feel welcome and protected.
He nodded to himself, he was proud of his plan and he would get on its completion right now.
"Are you alright, Miss?" He asked, standing next to her.
"Yes of course!" She looked startled, but showed him a smile right away. Smoker may not be an expert with women, but he saw that she looked anxious.
"Not to worry, miss! Whatever happens, I want you to know that you have my full support and protection." In an effort to be reassuring, he put his hand on her shoulder.
"Thank you, commander. I appreciate it." The smile she gifted him with made him turn a little soft inside. He really missed to be with the people he was protecting. If he was honest with himself, he missed Logue Town. He needed to be reminded now and than who he fought for. The civilians whose lives he protected and for whom he strived for order and justice. Even though he would never let it on - their gratefulness had fueled him.
No one would harm a hair on her body as long as he could help it.
"Sit with us" his outstretched arm indicated the empty chair at his table.
She sat down and with a nod to Tashigi. Smoker turned his attention back to the tea on the small table. He poured a cup for Y/n and another for himself.
Smoker was exceptionally proud of himself, this went great. He would enact the next step of his plan.
"Me and Tashigi will have dinner at 1800 in the captains mess. You are welcome to join us." He monitored her reaction closely.
"I..uhm...of course, I'll be there." She shyly looked away, but he could see her smile.
It would take two more days to get to the fort, plenty of time to secure her cooperation.
------
Next week, we'll be at the marine Ford battle, even if we're just an onlooker.
A small chapter with the first bonding experiences!
What, marineford was known to become a war but Smoker takes her along anyways? They evacuated all civilians from the island you say? Well, he's not thinking that far and also I didn't want y/n to be left behind, that would have been less dramatic. So let's all decide that it isn't pretty careless from him. Besides, I already wrote that part before I happened to see the bit where they say that.

Sanji x reader modern day AU part 4:
I just want some f***king lunch
Tumblr media
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
"That sounds like my favorite kind of problem" you cooed into the phone, "it's a 'not-my-fucking-problem' Karen!"
Karen from finance has called again with complicated questions regarding spending positions so old no one remembered anymore.
"But you've got to help me!" Karen's voice wailed from the speaker. Fine. She's been here for 2 months and they're already sending her on wild goose chases for random information no one cares about.
"Fine. I'll see what I can do about that" you sighed. It wasn't her fault. But neither was it yours.
And you hadn't even looked at the 200 unread emails floating in the nirvana of your inbox. Maybe you should. Sometime.
The first mail you picked was a mile long conversation someone had forwarded with 'fyi', than came a few creatively phrased ones complaints from citizens about your workspeed. You decided the most productive thing right now was to close your eyes and think about last weekend.
A knock on the door prevented your daydreams from starting.
"Hahaha" you heard the fake laugh the upstairs secretary used as a substitute for "hello, how are you? I have loads of work for you because I don't use computers!"
She brought a stack of handwritten papers that you where supposed to turn into a coherent presentation for next week.
You felt your blood pressure rise to at-work-levels and your resolution to cut back on sugar lay abandoned somewhere in a gutter.
Biting into the cinnamon roll you got from the cafeteria made you feel at least a little better. You questioned your life's choices as you chewed and gulped it down with office coffee. Too bitter and too sweet at the same time.
Usually, your snack would have worked to lift your spirits - at least until lunch. Now, it tasted bland and unsatisfying. After the taste orgasm during the weekend, nothing you could get here or on the go would hold up. Yesterday seemed so far away now.
That sweet, precious cook, his loving gaze, great food; under the much too bright office lights shining dowm on grey carpets and brown desks it felt like a dream.
The only thing faintly reminding you of the last days was that you actually squeezed into a pantyhose and pencil skirt on a monday because you felt sexy. Sanji's apparent interest in that had made you bold enough to explore the deeper corners of your wardrobe. It was a bit tight around the ass, but that's what modern stretch materials were for.
You sighed and dialed up your old pal from controlling, he could maybe help.
"Hey, Max! You got a minute?"
"Sure do!" Max' voice sounded in your ear.
As you talked about an implausible booking from three months ago, there was kind of a commotion just outside your office - people walking quickly, raised voices. You could see it through a thin glass panel in the door.
This was a state department, people here shuffled around quietly and talked softly. There was either cake in the kitchen or a fire.
"I'll see what I can do!" Max voice sounded like yours a few minutes ago.
"Thanks, you're a lifesaver!" You said, still studying the scene in the hallway.
"You can show your gratitude by treating me to lunch" He chuckled and hung up. At least nizt everything in the office was bullshit. There were good people, too.
You decided to get up and see what all the fuss was about. What you saw as you opened your door was the last thing you expected:
Sanji lay on the floor, his head propped up on someone's bag as a makeshift pillow; people were standing around him, looking concerned.
"Sanji!" Kneeling down, you assessed his state: he was heavily bleeding from the nose and muttering something. You leaned closer and heard his whispers: "office lady...tight skirt"
Your face went blank immediately.
"Do you know that guy?" Heidi from payroll asked.
"He's cute, I'll adopt him!" Kate said. She was a mother of three, she could certainly handle him.
"He's just a friend with a peculiar illness. It causes him to faint randomly. Very rare. He'll be fine in a few minutes. Let's get him to the first aid room."
Two of your colleagues helped him up with his arms around their necks and dragged him to the abandoned room at the end of the corridor that had a small plank bed and some band aids. It barely helped anyone in an emergency, but at least someone could lie down.
They heaved him onto the bed and told you to call of he needed more help. You got some bandages from the first aid kit and tried to stop the bleeding by stuffiing them into his nose like little plugs.
"Hey, what?" You screamed as something pinched your thigh.
You looked down and saw Sanji's hand on your skirt, holding on.
"Hey princess!" He coughed dramatically.
"What the hell happened?" You proceeded to stuff rolled up bits of bandage up his nose.
"Wanted to surprise you! I brought lunch" He nasally mumbled.
"That's sweet, but why where you lying on the floor?" You saw the colour return to his cheeks as he recovered slowly.
"You took me by surprise!" He said.
"That skirt...the blouse...oh god..." he seemed to lose it again, but reigned his lower instincts in with sheer willpower.
"I thought...I was prepared but" He grinned like a little pervert as his hand and eyes went exploring again.
"Sanji!" You smacked his hand and he seemed to snap out of it for good.
"Of course, I'm Sorry!" He sat up and tentatively removed the plugs from his nose. "I brought some lunch! A nice Sandwich and a chocolate soufflé for dessert." He grinned widely.
"A...Sandwich?" You were a bit disappointed. A sandwich was so mundane compared to everything else he had made.
Sanji swallowed hard at the very clear inflection of uncertainty in your voice.
"I swear it's great! You'll love it!" He jumped from the stretcher and took your hands.
"And I know the perfect place for our picnic!" He cooed as his eyes got glazed.
"Let's gooooo!" He already grabbed your hand and dragged you with him - and stumbled a bit when you didn't move.
"Sanji" you said, pointing at your watch, "it's still a bit early for lunch, I'll need to get back to work for at least half an hour."
He looked as disappointed as you felt, but just like blue sky breaking through the clouds, his blue eyes started sparkling again.
"I'll just wait and watch you work!" He smiled.
"I guess you can wait here for a bit, but it's extremely boring stuff" you answered,"it's just me on the phone or typing, really."
"I've never worked in an office! This is actually quite interesting." He rubbed his chin.
"Well, if you insist..."
Sanji
He got to sit on a small chair in the corner of her office and watch her. It was in fact so small, he almost didn't know where to put his long legs.
Opting for some kind of half-crouch, his arms resting on his knees, he settled in to drink in more knowledge about her. This was where she spent a lot of her time.
He didn't get most of what she said or did, but she did it in a professional way. Her small fingers typed incredibly fast on the keyboard as she wrote emails that would have taken him probably a few hours to find the words for.
On the phone, her voice took on a Business tone, very professional.
Her desk was full of paperwork, files and books. How could she keep track of it all? Sanji wasn't one for paperwork, so this was like magic to him.
That's my cute y/n-chan, so smart! , he thought to himself. A hard worker, she needs a good lunch to keep up her strength.
The ringing of the phone knocked him out of a short daydream, where she came home from a long day at work to find a perfect dinner on the table, made by her perfect boyfriend.
He half listened as she talked.
"...thanks Max, you're a lifesaver! Next lunch is on me, I promise!"
Ok, so she talked to a guy.
Now she giggled.
"Yes, see you there. Bye!" She slammed the receiver down to end the call and hummed to herself.
So she talked to a guy and giggled. No big deal. Sanji tried to tell himself that.
"So....who's this Max?" He asked, trying hard to sound relaxed.
"Old colleague, we help each other out sometimes." She scribbled a note and began sifting through a file.
"Oh, ok" Sanji was sure this guy was absolutely bound on taking her from him. How could he not? She was so cute! He would have to...
"Alright, 12 o'clock, lunchtime!" she threw her pen down, locked her computer and was out before Sanji could finish his thought.
She punched out for lunch and Sanji could see an alarming number of overtime hours on the digital screen. This girl needed some Savoir Vivre asap.
So this took a year longer than expected, but better late than never.
Is this part the battle hymn for the overworked mid 30s girl? Yes. Is it unapologetically shit I have to deal with every day? Also yes. Is it what I sometimes envision to make work bearable? Absolutely. Your blorbo is sitting in the corner of your office and rooting for you!!!!!

Catching Smoke
A long Smoker romance fanfic where he gets to be the strong, grumpy, hot marine we know and love, falling for his capable sexy secretary(you!) that keeps him functional and saves his ass about as many times as he saves yours.
It's a secret enemies to lovers slowburn longfic that I will try to update every Sunday. Comment below to be tagged with every update!
Tumblr media
Part 1 - where you land in the marine base g-5 and meet Smoker for the first time!
The last thing you saw was a giant paw, then you flew in this strange way for three days - and things went black.
When you woke up again, you were in some kind of hospital, but all the other beds were empty. Your head was aching and spinning, but you had to get up, get back to your friends, help them against the marines. You needed to get back to sabaody.
You limbed to the only door you could see and opened it, daylight blinded your sensitive eyes and sent a bolt of pain through your head. Blinking, you tried to get some orientation - and saw marines, lots of them. They ignored you for the most part, only a few especially ragged looking specimen wandered towards you with lopsided grins.
"Sleeping beauty woke up! Hey dove, wanna have a good time with me?" A mean looking soldier said in the grimiest voice imaginable. He had long, brown hair and wore his uniform a bit more lose than the others. He would have been handsome if not for the disgusting expression on his face.
"Fuck off!" Was your only comment as you moved, painfully slowly, in the opposite direction, down a corridor. Even you could handle a few of those conscripted losers. You were half sure. Were was your weapon?
"What was that?" the soldier grunted behind you.
"Kitten has claws" commented another one.
"We will show you what it means to-" the first one added, but was cut short by a female voice.
"Ah, there you are miss! Sorry, may I pass?" A woman with a sword approached. Her black hair was cut short. She squinted and studied your face - you didn't know her. You hoped she didn't recognize you - you may not have a wanted poster, yet, but after being involved in that kind of shit show? You couldn't be sure anymore. She was holding up a stack of papers and seemed to check your face against a picture- fuck!
Panicking, you tried to make out a way to escape before she would throw you into the hellhole named imple down. Would your friends save you? Were they even alive?
"You're an applicant for the position of secretary?" She finally asked, holding up the paper so you could see the picture. It looked nothing like you.
"Uh, sure" you answered.
"Excellent! I am captain Tashigi. Please follow me!" She turned and briskly walked away.
It looked like she was your ticket out of this situation, so you trotted off behind her - shooting the asshole soldiers a deadly glare. You hoped she would lead you around the base and that her obvious bad eyesight would give you plenty of opportunities to escape.
The base was enormous. A labyrinth of hallways, doors and stairways.
Tashigi, you knew that name from your crew mates. She was always partnered with the white hunter, Smoker. Fuck. That one was mean. A logia user that was set on capturing the strawhats. You had to get away before he saw you, he was a not called a hunter for nothing. There was no chance you could escape him.
You tried to assess your position - you were in a marine base, the blind swordswoman thought you were applying for a secretary position. Who ever you would be talking to - they would get you out somehow after the interview was over. Maybe you would have to be shipped to a civilian harbour, from where you could plot your return to sabaody. Your head was killing you, but you didn't have to give them a good performance. Surely this was just with some captain or low ranking service personnel.
Tashigi stopped at a door and knocked. A deep, growling voice answered: "come in".
Tashigi opened the door and you followed - and it took all your willpower not to curse loudly.
In a chair behind a huge wooden desk sat a man with white hair and two cigars in the corner of his mouth - Smoker. His jackett was open and he didn't wear anything underneath, his hands were in dark gloves and folded on top of the desk. He looked annoyed and angry. And, in a scary kind of way, really handsome. His broad build and white hair were unusual, but interesting. Next to him, your crewmates looked like scrawny boys.
You froze and swallowed.
"Commander Smoker, this is another applicant for the position of your secretary!" she informed him, saluting.
"Ah, I thought we saw every one of them! Of course, please, sit!" His demeanor changed somewhat, he now seemed nervous. His eyes widened and he bend a bit, like he wanted to make his enormous body a bit smaller.
You sat down on a ragged chair in front of the desk. Smoker sat down opposite you and Tashigi next to you. Trapped. Fuck.
Gathering all your strenght and acting ability, you managed to plaster a broad smile onto your face and said with the softest, most professional voice you could manage "pleased to meet you, sir!"
He nodded.
"Welcome miss...?" his voice trailed off as he was shifting through the pile of papers on his desk.
"Y/n" you answered. You were now sure that he didn't know your face. It was unlikely he knew your name. He nodded again. The angry expression returned to his face, like it was the default state his face took, whenever there was no other emotion to transport.
He continued digging around the absolute chaos covering his desk, eventually giving up with a sigh.
"I don't have time to coddle you, Miss, so I'll cut to the chase. Can you help me and captain Tashigi with this" he gestured towards the mess of paper on his desk like it was an unsolvable problem, "so that we can do our jobs?"
You were so perplexed - you nodded out of habit. And fear. All your head was filled with were the stories of your crewmates parading through your head. He beat them, all.of them. He beat Luffy. He was smoke. Couldn't be touched.
"Great. You're hired. That's all." He hit the top of the desk with his hands and almost broke it in the process, ripping you out of your panicked thoughts.
"WHAT?" you screeched, shocked.
"Miss?" he seemed confused.
You coughed and tried to calm yourself, you needed to come up with something.
"Oh I am not sure. I'll think about it and call you in a week or so. When is the next ship away from here...?"
Smoker and Tashigi looked at each other.
"Next ship off this base for civilians is in three days. Please Miss..." he seemed a bit overwhelmed, going with his fingers through his white hair "just try it out, Miss. I promise this will be a great opportunity." He seemed to try hard to sound calm and nice. Tashigi added, much to Smoker's annoyance: "all the other candidates ran off. We're really desperate!"
"Tashigi shut up!" He barked at her and she froze.
"Give us three days, Miss. You won't get back sooner anyway. Let me show you around." He stood up. You were still dizzy - and hungry. Your stomach growled. His eyes wandered towards your midsection.
"I'll show you the mess hall. Lunch is on me." Smoker said and already stomped out of the room. You and Tashigi followed, half Jogging, to keep up with his long strides. You were always a little jealous that all the others had bounties and wanted posters except for you - now it came in handy. Big time.
The mess hall was huge, filled with marine soldiers gulping down typical army rations. Not very appetizing, especially after being pampered by one of the best cooks in the world, but food was food.
Every soldier who saw the three of you saluted and greeted Smoker, he seemed well respected among marines. He nodded in response. No one dared to even look at you inappropriatly.
"If you want to, we can go to the captain's mess, food is a bit better there." Smoker said, looking a little puzzled.
"No, here's fine" you answered. Best not to overplay your hand. The food line was moving remarkably quickly and when it was your turn your realized why: there was one meal handed out. Some kind of brownish stew with potatoes. Well.
Smoker, Tashigi and you sat down on a bench at the long tables, right in the middle of the soldiers, it felt quite odd not to be shot at and attacked by those uniform wearing bastards.
Smoker and Tashigi started planning the rest of their day: training, stretegic meetings. Or rather, Smoker was barking at her while she nodded and made the occasional comment.
You tried the food - fortunately, it was quite tasteless. This was no fun, but it filled your stomach. The portion was so huge, you couldn't finish it. Looking around, you started to realise what being a marine really meant - and how massive the organisation really was. All those people, supply chains, organisation. All that material.
"If you don't like the food, we can find a solution!" Smoker said as he saw you laying down your cutlery. Both Smoker and Tashigi seemed concerned.
"No, it's fine" you answered, hearing a sigh of relief from both of them. They were desperate.
"So tell me commander" you tried to sound as business as you possibly could, "you seem to have run out of options for the position, why is that?" You asked, getting interested in the inner workings of the marine.
"Well uhm...we need someone for the paperwork, but this particular base is not so popular." Smoker poked at his food with the fork. "They're good men, but they lack manners. All the office personnel capable of doing administrative jobs has quit." He scowled. "But I assure you that you are under my personal protection, and the rules for soldiers of course don't apply to you. Headquarters is willing to pay a good salary and you will not have to participate in drills or such things." He explained.
You felt a little sorry for those two, they seemed like okay people at least. And you had to get along with them for three days.
"I'll have a look" you said, earning a smile from both.
"And I won't wear a uniform!" you told them, getting a little bold.
"Of course not!" Smoker reinforced his promise not to treat you like a soldier.
The three of you returned to what was clearly Smoker's office again. There was no one to explain the system to you, not even Smoker or Tashigi. They pretty much left you to get an overview by yourself while they trained and drilled their soldiers.
You started to look through the mess of papers, forms and memos. It was quite informative. Since he was commander of the base, the paperwork on his desk included lots of classified information and an excellent insight into the organisation of the marine as a whole. There were memos about the whereabouts of high ranking officers, troop movements, supply shipments, secret news - a whol cornucopia of secrets you could use against them.
This was a gold mine of information. Information that could be useful in the future for a pirate. You sorted and stacked the papers by type and date and just a few hours later, the office looked a lot tidier. You were putting away some uninteresting files in what seemed the proper place when Smoker returned, his jacket flung over his shoulder. He was glistening with sweat and showing off his muscular chest without seeming to notice how appealing he looked. For a short moment, your face must have been a grimace of shock mixed with a sleazy smile. You jumped up, trying not to look at the hot marine soldier in front of you and pushed around some more papers while greeting him nervously "wel-welcome back commander!"
He nodded absent-mindedly and threw himself in a big comfortable leather chair in the corner of his office. He let his arms hang down the sides, sighind deeply. Like he was posing for you, presenting his broad chest with deeps breaths.
He looked around, one of his cigars almost fell out of his mouth as he probably saw the surfaces of the tables for the first time ever.
"I see you already got to work!" He nodded in admiration. "I didn't expect to see order so soon!" Relieved, he leaned back with his arms behind his head, showcasing his chest even more.
"If you continue like this, we will get along excellently. And I will finally be able to do my real job." he leaned back, relaxed and self-content.
Even though he provoked lewd thoughts about licking his torso from the gutter of your mind, it bugged you that he treated you like this thing was already settled.
"You will have to keep order as well, commander. It is your office." you sternly stated, immediately causing his brows to crease again.
"That is not how you talk to me Lad-" he berated you - or tried.
"You have responsibilities here. Act like it." you shut him up, crossing your arms in front of your chest. You knew that you had to win a few powerplays with him to get his respect - and not get trampled under his demands.
He ground his teeth, almost biting one of his cigars in half.
"I am going to let that slide - for now." he begrudgingly said.
"I have put all the communication marked with "urgent" on your desk. That is, all that are still relevant. Some are months old" you pointed to his desk.
He got up and moved to inspect your work, visibly reigning his anger in.
He sat down and started to look at the papers, angrily puffing out clouds of smoke.
"I don't need to know all that crap" he said- and froze. There was a memo about Luffy's involvement at Sabaody - it surely interested him.
It sure as hell was interesting to you. He, and the rest of the crew, were missing. You prayed that they landed on friendly islands and not marine bases. The more meat-headed of your comrades would be in real trouble, otherwise.
You watched as his face derailed into an expression of utter shock.
"STRAW HATS! DEFEATED???" he barked at the paper in his hands.
"FIREFIST ACE - CAPTURED???" He grunted as he got to the Next page.
"AND THE EXECUTION IS IN 2 DAYS?" He sunk back into his chair, exhausted by the news.
"And your attendance is required" you informed him, smugly.
He answered with a puff of smoke and a defeated grunt.
"Well, we still have enough time to get there. I'll leave tomorrow morning"
"If you don't keep order and read the news from headquarters, you'll miss such things" you rubbed his shortcoming into his face. Powerplay - won!
"Dismissed." Smokers brown eyes glared at you as he barked the order.
He knew he had lost, you were sure of it.
You trotted out with a spring in your step, getting greeted by Tashigi, that proceeded to show you to your room.
Smoker
Smoker slumped into his chair after he ordered his new secretary out. Compared to him, she was small. No doubt she had never been in a real fight. But she stood before him and didn't flinch. She had spunk. It was hard to admit it, but as he excelled as a soldier and a hunter for pirate bounties, he was lost amidst all this bureaucracy, rules and politics.
And it was time to admit that if he wanted to stay on top of things, he needed help.
He needed her, and she had shown that to him today. His hand glided nervously through his hair. For some reason, he felt giddy, nervous. Excited. Their little exchange had been something new. Tashigi rarely stood up to him, and never like that. He looked forward to what she would present him with in the future.
He needed to think about how to make her stay. It was not his forté.

hi! i’m the same anon who requested the blood blood fruit with law and yes that was based off my self insert and a devil fruit i thought of, there are other fanon devil fruits that are blood powers but i didn’t steal anyones idea or anything :) so basically a it’s a paramecia type devil fruit and i can manipulate and control my own blood and others. I can turn my body into a thin string of blood to avoid attacks, travel faster or snipe people. My heart pumps more blood than a normal humans would because of my devil fruit.i can make other people’s blood stab them through they’re skin or completely drain them. The more i move around and exercise the stronger i get because my blood circulation increases. It can given me inhuman strength, speed, durability, endurance, stamina, agility and mobility. I can control any blood within a 500 meter radius. I can turn my blood or others into weapons. I have a naturally high pain tolerance due to my devil fruit. I can teleport using blood. I can control any amount of people’s blood as long as your in a 500 meter radius. I can make your blood pressure drop so low you pass out or raise so high you explode. I can make my blood explode telepathically. I can make my blood weapons fly from telekinesis. No matter how much you attack me it only gives me more advantages because you draw blood. I can puppeteer someone using they’re blood. I can attach and detach my limbs by keep a thin string between. I can make my blood extremely poisonous or venomous. I can keep my colleagues from bleeding out. I can turn my limbs into blood weapons. I can shoot blood bullets that can contain either posion or water to kill you or medicine to heal you. (fun fact if you inject water in your veins you’ll unalive) I can stop my opponents heart from pumping blood. I have blood whips. I can make a blood shield. I can make blood wings come out my back. I heal and regenerate faster than a normal human naturally as a plus of my devil fruit. I can extend the range of my kicks using my blood strings.
(omg this so long oops, anyway if you still decide not to write it i don’t mind)
Hello Anon, thanks for your explanation - I hope I got your idea right
It somehow reminds me of the blood magic in "vampire the masquerade" or "Vampyr"- you sure you're not also a vampire?
I hope you like what I've thought of!
Law x blood fruit user headcanon
Tumblr media
Law is very practical - he offers you the position of a nurse on his ship. After you blood-kick him into the ocean he rephrases that in a much more respectable way
He's absolutely fascinated with your Power (and soon, you)
since he wants to always protect his crew and advance his technique, you'll spend a lot of time with him in his lab, where he'll study the many different uses he thought of for your power - keeping blood packs fresh for a longer time, faster transfusion, maybe you can even change bloodtypes to make blood more compatible? Cleanse blood?
His intellect is constantly orbiting new ideas, he'll even show up at your door in the middle of the night to ask you questions only a doctor would, using words you don't know
another question on his mind: could he beat you? He proposes a training match. Can his power stop your influence? Do you still have control once he's chopped you up? Who can teleport out of the way faster? And how about he just crushes you under 5 marine ships?
no matter how long you're together, his fascination with you will never stop
he tries to cook a birthday dinner for you - there's this bloodpudding recipe he found...Bepo tries his best to stop him!
Whenever he's injured, you're the first one he turns to, always
Sometimes you catch him as he tries to manipulate blood with his power, but he's not good with liquids
Maybe he wants to open a hospital with you - some day.

I love ace a ton and your stuff is really perfect! Anyway can you please do something on how ace would react to the modern world? Like the pirate ace finds himself in modern world. Like how would he react to phones and cars lol
I @acpola01 , thank you for your fun request! I am sorry it took so long...I hope you still like it! Of course I made it a bit x reader because that's my jam
Ace gets isekai-ed to the modern world - headcanon
Tumblr media
Ace fought a really strange uhm...thing(?) that seemed to barf colours that shouldn't exist - until he stepped in a pool of that stuff and fell for a looooong time until he passed out
He wakes up on hard stone. He looks around. Strange. He never heard of such an island - the floor is all paved, the houses are really tall and there's a shitload of people. Since he's still groggy, he'll just follow his nose, stumbling into the small cafè where you work (it smelled too delicious)
He orders almost everything the menu has to offer - until you want to close up and realize that that guy has no money you can put in the register. After a short argument and giving him the slap of his life, he gives in and promises to work off his debt
Since he seems clueless and absolutely adorable, you take care of him. Everything is new to him, like he doesn't know modern electronics at all. You offer him a place on your couch. When you get him to your car, he is at first confused what you want with that tin box. He holds on for dear life when you leave the parking lot and drive your usual speed through the city, but he loves it as soon as you drive through the illuminated streets. Completely silent, he stares and stares, occasionally asking about thinks like traffic lights, neon signs or strange people roaming the streets.
He marvels at your phone - he loves all the things it can do! Especially playing cute animal videos, he'swatching tiktok the whole night, laughing his ass off. "OMG Y/N DID YOU SEE THAT?" he wants to show you EVERYTHING he finds. Your previously well-trained algorithm is ruined.
As soon as he finds the food videos, he drags you to every fast food and trend food restaurant he can think of.
Cinema is one of his favourite activities, he loves superhero movies and science fiction. Even though he often falls asleep, head crashing in his popcorn bucket
He doesn't get public transport though - the subway map is too much for him, he also chats up people sitting next to him, a lot. He always has change for the musicians, because he loves to dance on the poles

hi! can i have general headcanons of law x fem reader who has the blood blood fruit? i thought i’d be funny since he’s a doctor and ope ope no mi goes with his profession well lol.
(kind short but yeah that’s it, have a good day/night)
Hello anon, this seems to be a fanmade fruit and I actually don't feel so comfortable taking other people's creations that are already attached to a character and writing for them.
So if this is your character + fruit idea you can tell me more about it and I can write something based on it, but otherwise I don't feel like it's my place to write a headcanon about that ability
Ich hope you have a great day and I am really sorry!

I agree! To me, he doesn't feel needlessly mean in any situation. I think he's cruel to tashigi and his subordinates because he talks to them like he talks to himself - he is a bad boss!
BUT I think he's really hard on himself and tries really hard to live up to his own standards
I generally try to avoid reading fan fiction where Smoker is described as "mean" because they somehow kill that grumpy/fluff Smoker vibe I imagine he has. Everyone has his own perception of characters, but I think he's the kind of man who doesn't do one-time things if he doesn't have a sincere and secret romantic interest behind it, and I'm 100% sure he doesn't mistreat his partner or does it for his pleasure only. I like to think he's the kind of partner who has an established relationship with one person, and he's a man who gets easily flustered when his s/o demonstrates affection in public but he's just a cuddly giant teddy bear in private. :)

Since i am kind of back I'm working on that fic again, but this one will be loooong with maaaany chapters and I want it to be at least 3/4 done until I post it
Important information:
Smoker very hot
Inspiration came, hit me over the hat with a huge dildo and so I am writing a really long smoker x reader fic atm.
Since smoker doesn't have as many fans as he should, I will make a hot smoker campaign until I finish part 1.
I want to remind all of you that he is a hot 34 year old grumpy soldier with a heart made of pure fucking gold. In the first scene we ever see him, a child bumps into him and spills icecream on his pants
He apologized to the child and gave her money to buy new ice cream
I just want you all to remember that now.
Also, he is hot.
