Fionna had been improving her athletic and fighting abilities since her last world-hopping adventures and was glad that she had been working on it now that she was world-hopping again.

She found herself in a version of Ooh that looked almost just like the one her friend Simon had been from but knew there had to be something different.

It did not take very long before she found out what one of those differences were when she came across someone in trouble, hanging off a cliff.

Fionna raced to them and immediately grabbed the person's arms to pull them up to safety.

"Are you okay?" She asked though cut her own sentence off as she looked to see who it was.

At first she was angry at seeing him but something seemed different about him, he had a few different features, not looking exactly the same.

"Um, do I know you? You look familiar," she couldn't help but ask to be sure.

Fionna gave a nod, "unfortunately yeah. I'm here to at least try. How about you?"

It wasn't often that Fionna could be found in a library, she preferred being out and exploring or playing video games but sometimes it was necessary, especially going back to taking a few courses for her new career pursuits.

She welcomed the distraction when a stranger approached the table she had been working at and gave a smile.

"Hi there," she waved.

Well that was harsh. Fionna thought, she couldn't help but feel a little hurt by this even if she knew in her gut that something else was going on here.

She almost didn't hear him when he spoke again, though managed to catch it.

"Vampire...?" She asked.

So a vampire was behind this, but how could she free Simon of this? And why did they want him to kill someone and bring their body back? Had to be more of a way to just hurt Simon.

In video games and media usually the only real way to free someone of control like this was to kill the vampire or the vampire releasing them.

"What if you take me to this vampire alive? They drink blood don't they? Wouldn't they prefer a living human instead?"

Long shot but maybe the vampire was also listening? She wondered.

"I'm sorry I have to do this. No hard feelings, okay?" The old man has a knife and an odd look in his eye.

"How is trying not to be stabbed making things harder?" She asked.

"I can't help you if I'm dead."

Fionna watches his movements and studies his expressions, trying to find any sign, find anything else that could clue her in why he was doing this.

She had been taking real fighting classes ever since her space adventures with him but even still, he had some kind of reason, something off about him and she wasn't sure she could overpower him without one of them getting more hurt, but wanted to try.

"I'm sorry I have to do this. No hard feelings, okay?" The old man has a knife and an odd look in his eye.

[ Simon ] -> [ Fionna ] Look at this knife storm. Maybe I should invest in a steel umbrella. [He sends her a picture]

Fionna looked at the message on her phone, almost laughing at knives falling from the sky in the picture.

[Fionna] -> [Simon] Oh no! That doesn't look fun, yeah a steel umbrella does sound like a good investment.... probably heavy though.

//realized that with Fionna's world losing magic it likely changed how she was raised too, or at least her memories of how she was raised. Under cut cause it got lOng

Originally her upbringing was very likely a mirror of Finn's being raised by a family of cats instead of dogs, closest with Cake over (idk Jeanine instead of Jermaine? I'll go with that) her human parents would have been a father scientist/doctor living on the island of the humans left and a grifter mother that had been in and out of trouble ever since she and Fionna were lost from home

So then what would it be like, or her memories of growing up, be like now?

Maybe divorced/separated parents. Overprotective but very busy, not home often, father who is often travelling or in his home location for his studies and work and still a grifter mother who moves from place to place to avoid the trouble she gets herself into and probably in and out of prison some too but usually short terms

Fionna in the world that lost magic if she was raised by her human parents probably would start a "My Mother Sucks" Mother's Day tradition with any of her friends that also have moms that are better referred to as just their egg doner

I feel like an option in that world could be that the cats that originally raised her, Cake and Jeanine a sweet old couple that lived next door and often looked after her when her dad was away and they originally had 2 cats? They didn't really have kids of their own so they saw Fionna and their cats as their kids and maybe she got the cats after they passed or Jeanine was adopted by one of the couple's family and Fionna got Cake

Fionna wasn't actually expecting him to try and use the knife so when she moved to dodge she didn't move enough to fully avoid the blade and was nicked. It was shadow enough to be able to deal with later but a surprise nonetheless.

She hissed in pain and moved back to get some distance.

"Yeah I can understand, but what is it you have to do? Whose in trouble? You know I'll help."
