no shade but i don’t understand why some people on tumblr get mad when people tag characters on their posts. ofc i understand if it’s something super personal, but if you post like “slipped and and hit my head” and someone reblogs and tags #splingo splungus what is the point of being mad at that. did you forget what website you’re on

Someone today will read Shakespeare’s hamlet and say omg he’s just like me fr. Another person will read moby dick and proclaim Ishmael as an adhd king.
A person grieving for their recently deceased lover reads the iliad and they watch as Achilles rages and rages and god how righteous anger fueld by love is so devastating that it’s ramifications still affect the world several thousand years later.
We might one day settle down and read the epic of gilgamesh and watch as a king has to accept the death of the person he loved the most. One of the very first stories ever written and it was about coping with death, and how to grieve.
We don’t read classics because they’re old, we read them because they remind us that we are never alone. That a character created over 500 years ago struggled with the exact same problems we all still have today. That even a king from centuries past had to deal with death just like me. That’s what makes stories so powerful–they prove to us that we are never truly alone in what we are feeling.

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.
and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.
there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.
i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

So… drama aside for a second.. Are we going to see the first swearing fine being handed out (you know the FIA takes forever) or was that just a FIA bullshit PR stunt to get the people talking?
George: what the fuck? He [Max] just crashed into me.
Nico Rosberg: He just crashed into Russell on purpose, just to prove a point
Crofty: let's see it again
Nico Rosberg: we don't need to, that was horrible.
Presidential alert⚠️

I’m sick so I missed most of the race (including this incident) but do Max want time off or something because he is on 11 out of 12 penalty points. Does he want a vacation?

Hot take: there are too many rookies on the grid this year, and it’s leading to a wider disconnect with f1 as a whole. Obviously, it’s not the fault of the rookie drivers; I more-so blame the teams and their complete lack of time and development that they put into the junior programmes.
People will tell you over and over that F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports…but then refuse to acknowledge that, if that is the case, it SHOULD be more experienced drivers in those seats. Add to that the teams’ lack of real desire to invest in and allow their talent to grow organically and it really does feel like F1 is losing its prestige.
In a very real sense, the ridiculous situation that just occurred with Jack Doohan is emblematic of a wider issue in F1 currently, where rather than backing their own talent that has come from their own junior programme, they’re swapping him not even 7 races in for a more expensive driver with more sponsors and a big national fanbase. Of course, this is not a diss towards Franco, but there is absolutely no justification for swapping him in - other than the fact that Alpine have paid through the nose for him and don’t want that money to go to waste, sitting on the sidelines. There is no indication whatsoever that he will perform better than Jack, but Jack doesn’t have the same investment behind him. Which falls completely at the feet of Alpine as a team.
It speaks to why lots of fans, including myself, have been leaving the sport behind in droves. We’re told time and time again that F1 is a cutthroat sport, and you have to perform or you’re out, but yet it seems that that bar applies to fewer and fewer drivers each year. You can now leverage your corporate sponsors and backers to ensure your promotion and longevity in a team despite underwhelming performances on-paper. You now get a seat at the Championship-winning team with six races and two P9 finishes. You can now rotate in and out of racing seats at the whims of some out-of-touch or outright criminal overlord.
Like where is the line? Are we still pretending that the grid is comprised of the 20 best drivers in the world…or is it just the 20 luckiest and most-well connected?
And don’t even get me started on the whole "give Rookies a chance" campaign that grew legs on social media last year, which, let’s be honest, came about in large part because fans were simply bored of the current grid and wanted new faces to coo over. The infantilsation of these men, the tantrums and tears when they’re held to the same standard that F1 themselves have set, the ‘you can’t criticize x,y,z because they’re new to the team, they’re just a babe stumbling around in the woods’ is doing more to harm the way we critically discuss this sport than anything else.
I understands there comes a time when you have to build for the future. But I feel like we truly underestimate the amount of psychic damage Max Verstappen has done to every team principal on the grid: no one is actually looking to invest and cultivate talent for the future, they’re all just trying to snag the Next Big Thing and are terrified of missing out on some hidden ‘generational talent’. So now, they’re going to be throwing junior driver after junior driver into the F1 woodchipper until one of them comes out of it and proves them right. Never realizing that drivers like Max and Lewis are once-in-a-lifetime type deals that we’ll probably never see again.
And the funniest thing is, in the meantime, we’re going to see a lot of nameless, faceless, aura-less juniors get a ‘shot’ at the top-level of this sport for being 22 years old and finishing P6 in some dwindling feeder series and people will tell you they’re the most dynamic, exciting thing to happen in the sport…until they’re dropped three seasons later for the next one.
