How NadiPortia would work in the Beastars!AU is so interesting to me. In the OG Arcana, their relationship was mostly fluff, and really cute!! But in Beastars, the ballpark is soo wildly different due to the prejudices and norms that exist in it, and I think it's a great opportunity to use it to explore their relationship, because the both of them deserve some depth

They're both women, Portia is a carnivore and Nadia's a herbivore, and the former is working class while the latter is part of the literal royal family. And Nadia is the literal Sublime Beastar at that

There's so much going against them!!!!! Nadia is conflicted because she loves Portia but she also feels like she has an image to keep up!! How would Vesuvia accept a Beastar that they are still yet to fully trust have a working class carnivore as a partner when in their eyes, it was risky and rebellious enough that she married a goat even when they're both herbivores!! Portia understanding all of this and feeling like she could never get used to the world of the ultra rich and important, being the target of classist and passive aggressive comments, feeling like she'll never be good enough for Nadia!! But Nadia doesn't feel good enough for her either!! She already in her eyes fumbled big time with Lucio, and even though she doesn't remember everything, she remembers the sting of failure, the heartbreak, the pain!! Nadia and Portia both having flaws that drive them apart but qualities that bring them closer to each other!! Both of them showing care and love for each other in their own ways, showing love in the way their own cultures do!! AHHHHH!!!!!!

Part 2 of the Beastars AU including Lucio, Muriel and the Devoraks! Lucio (Mountain goat)

Lucio and his family were Norwegian-Americans who reside in New Jersey. Having had a tough as nails childhood herself, Morga along with Lutz founded a criminal syndicate that quickly proved to be a threat and frequently collaborated with the Jersey mafia, hence the accent

Morga mostly took over parenting, and it wasn't pretty. I imagine that she's a lot like Logan Roy - perpetually disappointed in her only son and lowkey resentful that he grew up in the lap of luxury while having a rough childhood herself

Morga said she "spoiled Lucio" in the actual game, and I personally think she only ever spoiled him with luxury and in name only. She was still an abusive mom, and the fact that Lucio of all people fears her tells you enough

Truth be told, I have not thought up of an alternative to his whole deal with the Wyrm of Pestilence (remember - no magic), but at some point, Lucio attempted to poison his parents slowly. While Lutz weakened and mysteriously got whacked, Morga persisted, and she instantly connected the dots. At gun point, she tells him to fuck off from Jersey, and he does

He did the next best thing and changed his name and decided to rise up the ranks through politics, and he ended up in Vesuvia, where he succeeded Spada as the Sublime Beastar. Nadia, drunk and enamoured with this vain but charming goat, accepts his proposal while they're both shitfaced. Big mistake.

Throughout their marriage, while Lucio spoiled Nadia with endless gifts and birthdays, she was deprived emotionally. Lucio loves Nadia, but he never really saw her as "Nadia" but as "his wife"

Lucio, though initially popular, became reviled as the plague dragged on and there were no signs of him stopping with his endless parties even as the citizens of Vesuvia dropped like flies

He was "assassinated" in the last Masquerade, but in actually barely escaped the flames of his room (still burned to hell though), and with the help of a fucked up justice system and bought out cops, went into hiding back into the criminal world to plot his rise once more

Muriel (Brown bear)

Muriel is a Kazakh that was sent away to Vesuvia with a travelling sailor by his parents to save him from getting killed. By what, it's still being workshopped, but his life was in imminent danger

He lived as an orphan on Vesuvia's streets, being targeted by street gang due to his size and strength to steal things for them. He met Asra when he was instructed to recruit other children

He was coerced by Lucio into becoming a prizefighter in the BAM's illegal fighting rings, where Lucio betted money on him. His honey and growth suppressants were confiscated, and each match after that became bloodier and more brutal

Post-Masquerade, Muriel lives around the edges of the BAM, doing odd jobs here and there to maintain his home and support the chicks he saved from the BAM's hyperdrug market. He NEVER steps into the meat market by his own will. The smell of blood and meat are an emotional trigger for him

He perpetually isolates himself because he feels like his past makes him a monster, and with the exception of Asra, generally tries to stay away from herbivores out of fear

Julian Devorak (Red wolf)

Julian and Portia are Czech from their father's side and Ukrainian from their mother's side. When an unforseen and catastrophic storms shipwrecked them, leaving him and Portia the only survivors, they were saved by a family of (sentient!) seals and brought to the shores of Odessa where Mazelinka, Lilinka and the rest of the grandmas took them in

Julian went on to study medicine in India and come under the tutelage of Nazali, who had their own non-for-profit organisation to provide medical services to disadvantaged communities

At some point, Lucio went to Julian for medical treatment and had to amputate his arm to save his life

At some point, he ended up moving to Vesuvia where he became the the most prominent medical expert spearheading the effort to end the Red Plague. With hospitals being overwhelmed and understaffed, he also had to see his collegaues wither away and pass on from the plague, which left him traumatised. At some point he got jailed and locked up to work on a cure for it

The circumstances after that are still being left up for debate, but during the last Masquerade, Valerius saw Julian run out the Beastars' burning chambers, and had him arrested for the assassination of the Sublime Beastar, which in Vesuvia, meant the death penalty, but he managed to escape

During the three year interlude, he travelled around the world under different pseudonyms and identities. By the time the plot starts, Julian is lurking the BAM, running a clinic that assisted those living in the area

Portia Devorak (Red wolf)

When she found out her dearest older brother was being covincted of murdering the Beastar, and then found out that he escaped and went into hiding, she accompanied Mazelinka on her travels to find him

In this universe, Portia also studied medicine but decided to stay in Ukraine when Julian went off to India. She eventually became a nurse and then a maid with specialised medical knowledge with Nadia

Sometime before the events of the plot, she quit her job as a maid and became a botanist and a writer on the side!! Honestly, a lot of this is trying to circumvent the employer x employee dynamic as while I'm able to suspend my imagination in the actual Arcana, it's a bit more uncomfortable. During the events of the plot, Portia would no longer be working for Nadia

I would write more but once more, the post is long enough and it took three days for me to complete in between studies. Hope yall like the food

Nadia x Lucio stuff I think about everyday (Headcanoned btw)

Pardon the Freudian analysis, but I think part of the reason Lucio married Nadia is because he subconsciously senses the resemblance to Morga and he thinks if he can prove himself to Nadia, he can prove himself to Morga. This also plays into his devaluation of her either - removing power from Nadia is removing power from Morga

I think Nadia is the one to first request to open their marriage, but it's to see if Lucio would protest, get angry, do *something* that indicated that their marriage was worth fighting for on some level to him and that it would serve as a wake up call for him. Instead, Lucio just thinks it's a cool idea, and that kinda acted as a trigger for Nadia spiralling

The AU's slightly underbaked and needs workshopping, but here's how it's gonna be like

Asra (Awassi sheep)

- Asra, along with Aisha and Salim, are Egyptians who moved over to Vesuvia a few years before Lucio commissioning them

- Aisha and Salim in this universe are top of the line prosthetists, so when a "business meeting" went awry and Lucio lost a limb, of course he must get THE best of the best

- Unfortunately, Lucio is also a paranoid little freak and thought the Alnazars knew too much, so he planted fake charges on them and "disappeared" them, leaving Asra all alone

- He met Muriel when he wandered in the BAM, being the curious and adventurous kid that he is

- He's still working as a cartomancer within Vesuvia. How he becomes entangled into the main plot remains to be determined (help me)

Nadia (Marwari horse)

- The Satrinavas are straight up the Royal Family of Jaipur in Rajasthan. With horses being more matriarchal, Nasrin's the head of the household

- Though their power is more ceremonial now, they're not idle either. Nasrin and Namar have ventures in hospitality and frequently sponsor cultural initiatives. The other Satrinavas have their own thing going on too. Nadia Satrinava meanwhile, has been interested in politics from a very young age

- She struck me as a law/political science girlie, with a minor in engineering. She wasn't the most sociable student either, only having a few friends here and there and mostly focusing on just studying

- Nadia met Lucio in a posh gala back in India she only went to for networking. They start hitting it off and it ends in Lucio drunkenly proposing marriage, and Nadia drunkenly accepting

- Naturally, the Satrinavas didn't approve of him much. Around a month after the marriage, she had a huge argument with Nasrin that ended with her walking out of their home and limiting contact with them for about a decade

- As you could probably predict, the marriage broke down very quickly, hastened by Lucio's apathy and cruelty during the plague, which still happens in this universe, just with modern medicine and quarantine protocols. The isolation from the quarantine and the effective dissolution of their marriage drove Nadia into a pit of deep depression, which she numbed with work and alcohol

- The only thing she knows about the last Masquerade in the present was that "something" happened, and her car was crashed while she was driving. Her injuries were severe enough that she fell into a coma for three years.

- Miraculously, and with the Satrinavas spending top dollars for medical equipment, she managed to wake up from her coma, but not unscathed. In addition to migraines, partial amnesia and head splitting migraines, she had to deal with muscle atrophy and needed extensive physical therapy. Currently she wears leg braces and owns a cane

I'll post a part 2 covering Lucio, Muriem and the Devorak siblings because this post is long enough and I'm pretty tired (and also their lore is pretty sparse at the moment)

I DO wanna make a few points on the lore of the Beastars!Arcana AU and how it'll look like

- It's an AU in the sense that "What if the Arcana characters are in the world of Beastars?", so my idea of it is that the AU is set in modern times, with real world references to nationality, culture and religion, so for example, Asra is not from Zadith, he is Middle Eastern

- A lot of this AU is an excuse to expand the character's personality and backstory, as well as give them more layers and chances to examine that. An excuse to character study basically

- Yes it will cover darker subject matter than the Arcana, or at least cover them more in depth, so just be warned

- A core aspect of Beastars is prejudice and how it operates, so unlike the original Arcana AU, prejudices are a thing in this universe and will be explored

- While I will utilise most aspects of Beastars-specific lore, like the Meteor Festival and Rexmas, the actual history behind the universe (cough cough the Carni-Herbi war) are not gonna be referred to because honestly, I don't like it from a story-telling perspective. On this point, I'll refer more to real world history that'll be adapted to this verse
