I love how death in Fullmetal Alchemist never feels cheap. Every death is treated with gravity. The death of Hughes and Nina have repercussions for characters actions far in the future, the genocide of the Ishvalans is treated very seriously as a rippling effect the awful slaughter and how it weighs on all involved. Even side characters, Greeds gang dying, is portrayed as horrifying and devastating, and rather than being brushed aside comes back up for how it effects greed himself.

Ezra and Zeb really do have one of the funniest dynamics like Zeb is a fully grown and matured adult and yet every time this high schooler does anything remotely annoying Zeb’s maturity levels just immediately regress by about 35 years. Literally the third episode starts and ends with a 39 year old and a 14 year old doing the whole “he started it!” routine. About a year later when they’re now 40 and 15 respectively the 40 year old literally just goes “that kid’s being kinda obnoxious today I’m gonna race him down the hallway and teach him a lesson”. Like Zeb may be an adult but his big brother instinct is just so strong that he physically cannot stop himself from stooping to the level of some kid who can’t even drive yet.

Remember that one time Vader was advancing steadily on Ezra Bridger, then got attacked from behind by Ahsoka Tano, so he turned around to fight Ahsoka Tano, and then suddenly an older Ezra Bridger appeared behind Ahsoka Tano and dragged her through a portal, and he just had to go on living his life like he hadn’t seen any of this actually happen.
