When writing fanfiction... there are two beasts that wage war within the writer. *sage nod*

having a disability is so hard, and having an invisible one like i do is its own type of hard.
people tell you all the time that you're just "faking it". that you can't call yourself disabled because "you're not on a wheelchair", "you can do anything just fine".
when you need help and the government gives it to you society tells you that you're robbing from the people who "actually need it" and "you're just asking for something you should work for".
"let's support disabled people!" until you need to actually help them. until you need to carry their things. until you need to understand they're not as fast as you when you walk. until you need to accomodate to them in any way.
people who do or say all those things never had to deal with a disabled loved one and IT SHOWS. the lack of empathy leaves me speechless everytime i have to deal with someone like this.
please think twice before you talk with a disabled person about their own disability and LISTEN TO THEM AND THEIR EXPERIENCES. practice putting yourself in the other person's place just for a minute, just a moment. it won't hurt you.
