I have missed the past couple of days due to recovering from my first big event over the weekend but, I’ll be honest, I didn’t have anything for them anyway. While I do enjoy combat, Craft is where I find the most joy in this hobby. From my very first day, it has pretty much always been fibre crafts for me, and has left me with a very niche set of skills. I still don’t know how to insert a zipper or use elastic but I sure can whip up a medieval tunic from scratch in about 3 hours. It does mean I have spent much of the past seven years trailing around a large amount of fabric behind me. It’s a problem. I have so much of it. My latest big project has just wrapped up- a gorgeous purple bliaut for a friend that I’m incredibly proud of, especially considering a did most of the sewing long distance! It got maybe two fitting sessions with her before the start of the season.

BEHOLD! A man purse fit for a Me!

My Gokstad pouch is nice but too small for water and snacks for my little one, hence this. I made the Hedeby bag handles from an ash shipping pallet. The bag is wool overdyed marigold, the panel is silk overdyed green, and the braid and lashing are wool yarn from Joann.

Changes will be made. The bottom panel is matched in the back but not the front - I don't know how that happened but I will flip it around and move the silk. Now I need to try my hand at embroidery

I just spent the past 40 minutes chasing a fly around, with a sword because that's what i had on hand, and wearing my helmet because the fly likes to get concerningly close to my ears. i now understand how Morgoth felt at the Bragollach.

In archeology there are artifacts, which are items made or modified by humans, but there are also manuports, which haven't been modified but are found far from any possible origin point and there's no explanation besides somebody carried it there. Manuports include things like stones, fossils, and seashells, and have been found in deposits as much as three million years old.

So yeah, apparently the oldest human activity for which we have evidence is Picking Up Cool Rocks.

What's a difference between historians people who just like to study history?

idk maybe the fulltime yearslong professional training by other professionals and constant peer review aka quality control? what's the difference between a five star chef and someone who makes homemade meals every day.

Too many rich people buying medieval castles and then renovating the interior to look like a completely normal 21st century house. Sorry but if you're going to live in a castle you need to commit to the bit. If I lived in a castle I would restore it just enough to be barely liveable and pretend I was a poor but prideful nobleman in his crumbling estate, still clinging to the last vestiges of his family's fading name.
