In the finale, everything happens the same up until Ted goes to the airport except he never discusses going back to Kansas with Michelle. Ted gets on the plane and asks Coach Beard if it's crazy what they're doing and Beard says he can't do it, he loves her. Ted hesitates and says quietly "me too." Ted and Beard exit the plane to find Rebecca starring at the tarmac thinking she missed Ted. She turns, they ask each other "what are you doing here" at the same time. Rebecca says she came to say a proper goodbye and Ted says "I changed my mind. I can't leave my home behind." Then he gently reaches for Rebecca's face and kisses her. They both cry a little.
Then the next bit could be them sitting in Rebecca's office discussing what's next for trying to get Henry there for school and convincing Michelle to move to Richmond for a while even though her and Ted won't be together. Maybe Keeley comes in with the proposal still for Rebecca and the women's team. (Or whatever you the writer chooses to add)
I would write this myself but I don't write much and haven't for years. My broken heart just really needs this fic.)
Thing is, I can't help but think that Ted and Rebecca growing apart from series 2 onwards coincided with Rebecca dating again. There has been a couple of hints in my view that Ted fell a tiny bit in love with her early on but Rebecca can't see the forest for the trees. There are a few acting choices on Jason S.' part that I find suspicious. @boobiebaguettebouquet (excellent name btw) reminded me of the first one here.
Higgins lead her to understand that the psychic could help her see things about herself that she might otherwise have missed. That's huge and exactly what stands in the way of this ship. Followed directly, in the timeline of the episode from Rebecca's perspective, by her bumping into Ted in the Hallway and being utterly in sync and connected in physicality as well as poking in the eye each other's inner turmoil.
Couple with the fact that he was texting her the night she developed a crush on a guy that was suspiciously like him... I just.... I'm not crazy. It's aaaaall there. I think he is a little bit in love with her and she just hasn't realised that she is, too.
My father went to art school with Freddie Mercury. Everyone always talks about his amazing four-octave vocal range, but my father always insisted that if you actually asked Freddie what his greatest talent was, he would’ve said flipping straights.
