"Internet celebrity Jessi Smiles, known for her videos on Vine, has received a death threat and heated accusations on Twitter from fans of her ex-boyfriend — and fellow Vine star — Curtis Lepore. Lepore has been charged with raping Smiles while she was sleeping in late August. One death threat leveled against Smiles, retrieved by Hollywood Life, is particularly chilling. Using a Twitter account that has since been removed, a user wrote ‘so jessi smiles told people Curtis raped her while they were dating .. NO **** YOU JESSI I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN YOU LITTLE *****’

Other Lepore fans have used strong insults against the digital celebrity.

'Jessi Smiles is a backstabbing *****,' writes one user, the website reports.

Another Twitter user claimed Smiles’ accusations were simply for attention. ‘jessi smiles is a lying bitch lmao i never liked her, I’m pretty sure she’s doing this for attention,’ the tweet reads. Smiles also seems to be losing some of her fans on the social media site.

'Unfollowed jessi smiles dumb **** ******* with my boy Curtis,' posted one user. Fans of Smiles have shown their support on Twitter, calling out the threats levelled against her. ‘Jessi Smiles from Vine is receiving death threats because she is facing her ex in court for raping her… I’m really at a loss for words…’ wrote one user.

Another said ‘Jessi Smiles is attacked with death threats after reporting her rape. And people wonder why most rapes go unreported.’ “

Something to note is that Curtis pleaded GUILTY in court and, as a result, the case is no longer going to trial. Let’s look at Jessi’s tweet after the trial word for word:

Jessi Smiles: “Curtis plead guilty to a felony assault today in court. It is no longer going to trial. I am okay with this and thankful for it to be over.”

And Curtis’ tweet: “The rape charge against me has been dismissed!”

Dismissed? No.

And on top of that he has called her a “d*mb b*tch” on social media for the entire world to see and ridiculed her when she tweeted about her experience to #yesallwomen. His behaviour has been disgusting and he does NOT deserve the following he has. And yes, people support him.

* Jessi has been the victim of online threats and harrassment for outing her rapist. This is what victims have to go through to get any form of justice. She deserves better than this. ALL survivors and victims deserve better than this. Lepore has GAINED more followers on Vine after this all came out into the open…Jessi has lost followers. She has lost support while her rapist has gained. This is rape culture at it’s finest. This is why so many victims don’t come forward. This is NOT good enough.

Rapists can be attractive.

Rapists can be charismatic.

Rapists can be successful, funny, and smart.

None of these things mean they are not capable of rape. But it does mean that people are more likely to ignore it, brush aside this truth, and make excuses for the rapists, because “they just don’t see it”…

Stop perpetuating the harmful stereotype, the harmful myth that rapists are all creepy dudes who hide in dark alleys or “look like they might rape you”.

PSA This is Curtis Lepore. He’s big on vine, and you’ve probably seen him in a lot of the videos posted on tumblr. He’s also a rapist. Another Viner, Jessi Smiles, reported that she was raped by him while she was unconscious. This February, he took a plea deal, pleading guilty to felony assault, and this dropped his rape charges. He told everyone that his rape charges were dropped but not that he had pled guilty to anything, attempting to twist the real story. Jessi is okay with the plea deal and she’s just happy that he is facing some charges. He continues to post disgusting, misogynistic vines and makes references to Jessi on Twitter.
