Maine watched Kansas walk by, but didn't say anything. He didn't need luck. He had never needed luck.
He entered into the Director's office, where the man himself and the Counselor were waiting. As always, he was offered a seat by the Counselor. He didn't take it. He never took it. It had become almost a custom between them. He watched the Director as he paced back and forth, but it was the Counselor who spoke.
"Agent Maine. We're here to discuss your mission with Agent Kansas." He opened up with. "How did you feel the mission went?"
Maine grunted. Then asked, "What's she said?"
"We wanted to hear your opinion first before we discuss that."
He grunted again. "Got the job done. All that matters."
The Counselor noted something down. "Would you care to elaborate?"
"Nothing much to say."
"Just answer the question, Agent Maine!" The Director cut in sharply.
Maine didn't even flinch. He was used to the Director's shouting, unlike most of the Freelancers. "It shouldn't matter how we get the job done as long as we do it."
"Kansas doesn't agree with your methods."
"My 'methods' allowed us to complete the objective in the end. If I wasn't there..."
"Thank you, Agent Maine." The Director interrupted him. "I commend your methods for aiding in the completion of the objective. You took a huge risk, and it paid off. However... when I pair you with someone, Agent Maine, I expect you to act as a team. Do you understand?"
Another grunt escaped Maine. "Sir."
"Good. Then you are dismissed."
Maine strode out of the Director's office. He needed something to take his mind off the mission.
Great First Impressions
"(Russian): Fuck you too dickhead." Never mind her deciding to give him any good word. She went her own way wondering if he’d be like most and ask what she said.
Nah.
He’s not the type to care about anyone or anything other than himself she decided. _________________________________________________________
"How was the mission Agent Kansas?" She sat in front of the Counselor. Sometimes the man could be fairly disconcerting.
"The objectives were met." She crossed her arms.
"But?" He prodded her when it was obvious there was more.
"But Agent Maine almost cost me the vital Intel. He lacks patience and the desire to communicate. It was obvious he has little care outside of his job and his own person."
The Counselor said nothing for a few moments as he typed some notes into a data pad in his hand. “What would you say of his mental state?”
Kansas pondered to herself a bit. “As far as I could tell, Agent Maine stayed focused and kept a cool head. Or more so than a majority of the agents I’ve worked with before. He stays in the right frame of mind to effectively complete his goal. However, it can come at the expense of his partner’s goal or possibly life.”
"Thank you. You may go." The Counselor input some more notes and gave her a smile. She grabbed her helmet and left not wanting to see it much longer.
She saw Maine in the hall on his way to probably report as well. She had long since gotten over her annoyance as Kansas knew better than to hold grudges with her comrades. “Good luck,” she spoke under her breath in a sincere tone as they passed.

Maine didn't say anything on the Pelican ride back. He hadn't said anything all mission, except via helmet to helmet message communication. To be honest, he rarely said anything. He just got jobs done. And that job today was to grab the data and blow the enemy base sky high.
Or, in his case, just blow the enemy base sky high. Him and tech never went well together. He knew his partner could handle that.
Maine also knew his partner was seething. He did not care; he had seen far worse. He sharpened the bayonet that he had long ago mounted on his Assault Rifle.
Let her seethe. The mission was done. That's all that matter. He'd done his job.
Maine waited for her to exit the Pelican first when they landed. He slung his weapon on his back and followed after. He just wanted to report the Director.
Kansas wasn't going to let him. Her helmet was off. She was ranting at him.
A hiss of air later, and his pale, battle scarred, hairless head met the dry ship air. His upper lip curled up. A grunt left him.
He still didn't say anything. But his dark eyes held all conversation.
Your goal? We were working together. And I saved your ass back there.
He strode past her. He wasn't interested in her berating him.
Great First Impressions
God fucking damn it. She cursed in her head. You almost cost me my objective asshole. The blonde glared in her helmet at the huge stature of a man on the opposite side of the pelican. It’s not like he could tell what her expression was anyone so Kansas gave up the effort of maintaining it. She sighed. At least I managed to salvage it.
She contemplated her upcoming report. The Director was keen on knowing how well Maine turned out in the field with her. Specifically when it comes to playing well with others. He might have almost fucked me over but at least he does his job with little to no problem. Hmph. Made her at least think a little better of him at that point. Who knows what he thinks in return?
As soon as the pilot said it was safe to get off Kansas was up and out of the seat wanting to leave it’s cramped space. She rolled her neck until it popped. Once she and the colossal agent exited the ship into the landing area, Kansas turned to look at him. In a moment of weakness she pulled off her helmet revealing her slightly messy blonde ponytail and annoyed pout. “Next time watch where you’re aiming asshole. You almost cost me my goal.”

He had to give it to Tex, she gave as good as she got. But then so did he, and he wasn't wasting any time. Not today. Maine reached around Tex's back, fumbling for the clasps of her bra, unhooking them with ease, tugging at the material in an effort to get it off.
His other hand roamed lower, stroking down Tex's bare sides, soon reaching the waistband of her trousers before he grabbed her right thigh, lifting her right leg up slightly.
All the while, he never broke the kiss between them. It became a kind of battle to him, and he liked battles.
"Fuck me."

"Mmmm, well if you want me, then come and get me, big guy." Tex taunted lustingly. She glanced at him eyes gleaming in a very seductive manner.

Is Maine just heterosexual?
//To be honest, anon, I never really explored it.

Realising what Tex was trying to do, Maine pulled away from her for a moment, pulling his shirt off for her. In another few seconds, he had her top off, too and, quite soon, his large, rough hands, were cupping her bra encased breasts. His lips crashed back into hers, and it wasn't long before his tongue was eagerly trying to push into her mouth.
"Fuck me."

"Mmmm, well if you want me, then come and get me, big guy." Tex taunted lustingly. She glanced at him eyes gleaming in a very seductive manner.

Well, how could he say no to that? Maine grinned, baring his teeth. With no sound, save for a purr, he pounced on Tex.

That wasn't the Tex Maine knew, which was a bit concerning in itself. He'd never seen Tex scared. Then again, all of this was new territory for them both.
"Hey." He punched her on the shoulder lightly, his way of being reassuring. It was the only way he knew how, really. "You're Tex. Any kid of yours should count themselves lucky to have you as a mother."
His next sentence was a soft purr.
"Especially mine."
His lips crashed into hers unexpectedly.
(Pregnant meme) "Tex... are you... are you okay?"
She felt very queasy, and it felt like she was drained of energy as fatigue set in. Since earlier this morning she’s been pretty much been back and forth from her room to the bathroom throwing up whatever they eaten for dinner last night. The red-head looked up at her love, who was quiet concerned about her at this point. Tex just gave a small nod. “Yeah… i’m fine.” she murmured softly. She had taken a pregnancy test earlier, and it came back positive, she was just unsure on how to go about breaking the news to him.

Maine had hoped that would be her answer. He knew Tex wasn't one to give up just like that. She was stubborn, just like he was. And, part of him kind of liked the idea of a kid. He'd grown up fast. Back on his homeworld, he had to. Part of him wanted to take his time, teach this kid growing inside of Tex about the world.
Would he be a good father? He didn't know. But he would do his best for Tex. For the both of them.
"I'm here for you. Both of you." He kissed Tex's forehead.

Well, that would certainly fit. The last time they... did it, was after their latest mission a few weeks back. It had been a rough ride and Maine had thought some of them wouldn't make it back. Luckily, they all did... but still, it had been too close. Tex had been all too happy to be there for him...
And now, that had turned into this. What were they going to do? A military craft was no place to raise a kid. Did Tex even want the kid? Something hurt in Maine when he thought that...
"What are you-what are we going to do?" He stumbled, words not forming correctly from his mouth.

Maine let out a grunt. She supposed she was right. He was getting rather ahead of himself.
"Right." He clutched the box close to him, taking care not to squash the precious cargo within. "We'd better find a pet shop."
While they were on shore leave, Tex and Maine came across a box of abandoned puppies. Maine of course wanted to take them in, but Tex on the other hand was hesitant about the whole thing. For one there was no way they would be able to keep five little balls of fluff aboard the Mother Of Invention. Especially when they were huskies. They grew up to be pretty big dogs, plus they shed a lot and are very vocal. She couldn't refuse, not when Maine was giving her the puppy eyes. "Fine." she groaned.
The moment Tex had said yes, Maine had punched the air with glee, scooping up the box with all the puppies in them, holding them close to his chest as if he meant to defend them with his life.
"It’s okay." He offered his large hand to them, allowing the puppies to sniff it. "I don’t know what mean person did this to you, but you’re safe now. Papa Maine and Mama Tex will look after you."
He glanced at Tex.
"Right?"

Pregnant? Tex was... pregnant. How-when... how? Maine swayed a little, trying to comprehend all this. His lips moved, but no sounds escaped from them.
They'd had sex, sure. That's what you did when you loved someone right? He thought Tex had been taking birth control... Had she forgotten? Or did he just assume wrong?
In the end, he settled for placing a large hand on Tex's belly. There was no bump yet, but he knew there soon would be.
"How... long?"

Now Maine tilted his head, confused. What could Tex possibly have to tell him? That she was sick? Yes, he knew that. Was she dying? Possibly. That could possibly be it. He didn't know. Not knowing made his head hurt.
"You're not dying, are you?" Damn, he loved her too much for her to die now.

Maine cocked an eyebrow, not quite believing her. It wasn't like Tex to get sick. He knew that, everyone knew that. So yeah, of course he was concerned about his fellow Freelancer.
"Are you sure?" He grunted. "Isn't like you."

Maine glanced between Tex and the husky puppies, thoughtful for a moment.
"We could name them after the guys?" He grunted at her in a deep, throaty voice. "But we need to find out how many girls and boys we got first. Kinda need to be on the ship for that though so they don't wander off."
Maine's gaze fixed on Tex. "Get some food, bowls and collars and head back?"
