i have been looking into warhammer for approximately 2 days and ive come to the conclusion that the universe there operates on the same logic as two elementary schoolers on a playground going back and forth adding things to their imaginary guys that make them cooler than the other’s and pulling out the biggest numbers they can

like,,,,, guys do you understand how long a thousand years is.

also what do you mean the emperor needs to eat(???) a THOUSAND people EVERY DAY

what are the logistics of this, where do the people come from, how do they find that many that consistently, what happens if they only have 999 one day, what do those peoples families think happened to them (i can go on)

a thousand people a day is actually an insane number to pick im genuinely baffled at who decided that and whether or not they thought through how many people that is

Sometimes I think about the space wolves having one of, if not *the* most generally accessible accurate history of the imperium. Both because of their oral tradition, and the actual primary source they have in their basement.

The Jarnhammar books confirmed that a regular line battle brother of the wolves knows more about the history of the imperium than high up cardinals of the ecclisiarchy. Due to Njal’s misadventures in Ashes of Prospero he’s also one of the first people to know the entire truth behind the Razing of Prospero, from both sides.

But no historians or even history obsessed chapter like the Blood Ravens in the imperium will care. Because why would you go to the bone rattling shamans to ask about history?

The wolves can sew, make their own art, all have free access to the library that they use a lot, have a wondrous artistically intricate fortress monastery that they designed themselves. They’re one of the few chapters to encourage a sense of personal identity that they let their members express through fashion.

But of course they can’t be into art. They’re brutes, ignorant idiots from some far off planet.

They take care of their own. Grimnar receives petitioners from Fenris on the Aett and hears them out, and sends wolves to aide them. When an aspirant survives the trials, but isn’t found fit to become a space wolf, they don’t just shun him back to his family while doing nothing about his easily fixable disability, like the angels of Baal do. They offer them space. They offer them accommodations for disabilities they suffered. They let them rise through ranks, so that their current fleet admiral is a physically disabled baseline who failed the trials but still rose to a position where he can tell Grimnar to get bent.

Their mortal serfs aren’t afraid of Grimnar’s wolves; because they’re of Fenris, all of them, and to the wolves (both the Thunder and the space kind) that counts for more than everything else.

But they’re barbarians, and brutal, and don’t deserve the respect of the more cultured chapters, because *look at them*.

It’s such a fascinating narrative in prejudices, especially around cultures. It also is interesting that the wolves genuinely seem to become less and less willing to engage with the imperium over time. The imperium at large had a negative impression from them from day one, which caused the wolves to go “fuck you”, and act even more the savages, which caused the negative impression to solidify, which turned into a cycle of this continuing ad infinitum.

I have so much more respect for any historical fiction shows or movies that include historically accurate hairstyles even when they look weird and dumb to modern eyes. You get rid of those beach waves this minute, you fucking cowards.
