Along with the Styxxln post I'll go ahead and post my favorite/best OC drawings I've done. I'm planning on doing commissions soon and I think I ought to post more art first. I'll make an official post for that at some point.

writing exercises
i’ve been thinking about practising writing and so just some ways to do it if you’re interested…these aren’t always fun and it’s not like you have to do them to be a good writer, but here are some things i’ve done that have helped me:
one scene story. basically, i get a plot of a short story. any short story, could be one that you wrote or can imagine. something about 10 pages long, 5k-10k words, you know, something you might read in one sitting. but when you’re starting out you might want to start with something shorter.
anyway, you then condense it into one scene. this scene can be as long as you want, but it can only be one. so you can write 10k words describing a dead body from a 1k word story, but it’s only that one scene. you want to tell bits of the story in other places. in description, in thoughts. try to make it good, readable, workshop-able.
description drills. i stole this from art. either sit in a public area or get a site to generate images and describe people and things. you’re looking to spend about a minute on each thing, and you want to be able to conjure what you’re writing about later.
if you get good at physical description, or you’re already good at it, or you just want to change, try to tell a story in your descriptions. pick out the pieces of a person that tell you who they are and make sure those are what you write down.
emotion wheel. i had a list of emotions and a list of body parts and facial features and i would combine them randomly. what does someone’s hand do when they’re angry? what about when they’re resigned? sad? happy? how about their feet? how does their posture change?
unlike the previous exercise, you want to keep these constrained to one character. think it through. if you’re writing a story about characters, especially if you have a lot of protagonists, making sure these things distinguish them is important.
epithets. okay, this is where it starts to get less fun. this one is hard for me. you’re not allowed to use pronouns (for characters). the purpose is to describe characters physically and emotionally and distinguish them through that. it’s fine to use epithets to start.
eventually, you do want to start to move away from that, but it’s OK if you can’t completely eliminate it, because it’s very difficult. don’t try to write too much for this, you want like 500 words or less.
joint work. this one uses a friend. so if you’re good at dialog and bad at action or vice versa, and you have a friend with the opposite problem (or who just likes this sort of thing), you each take like 10 minutes to write half of a scene. either all dialog and no action, or vice versa. then you swap, and fill in a scene around it.
you should probably be writing fanfic for this one so you have shared characters, but as long as you both know who the characters are, you don’t have to. you want to get it to the point where what fits into a scene is what you basically expected. bonus round? neither of you can name what character is doing what.
eliminations. a few takes on “kill your darlings.” you do things like write short stories and remove the main character, or remove the climatic page, etc. you then repair the story, but you can’t replace what you took out directly.
you can also throw it into a word frequency analyzer and pick your most common word (that’s not the, he, she, said, etc) and just delete every sentence containing it.
plotting. also uses a friend. you describe the plot of a book one sentence at a time, and they have to guess. you obviously can’t say names that would give it away.
the point is to learn what drives a story, what is essential. you don’t win by them guessing it on your first sentence. you win when you figure out how you think about story structure.
linear time. write a story, any story, with a then/now. alternate between them until it works.
characters. just. make page after page of character descriptions. until you’re sick of it. and then keep going. make them all distinguishable. until you can’t think of anything else, and then keep going.
and then go and get angry every time someone says “every character is the writer teehee” because they clearly don’t know what they’re talking about.
random words. a vocabulary builder. find a random word generator - make sure it’s a good one with a lot of different words. i used MW’s word of the day emails, they’re all saved in a pile, and word of the day calendars.
yeah, you guessed it, write a short story with the word.
iteration. this is my last one, because it’s the most boring. write a short story. read it a day later, make notes about everything good and bad. then write it again.
rinse and repeat. if you get sick of this story? keep using it. you’re accomplishing a few things here. one: you get a hopefully well written story by the end of it. two: you’re training yourself to write even when you’re not inspired. three: you’re learning what tropes you over use, what works and what doesn’t, what types of phrases stick in your head.
obviously, this doesn’t count if you just edit the previous story. you have to actually start from scratch.
i recommend a length of around 1k words. that’s about an hour of writing for me, and when you’re writing the same story, the speed will pick up. the length isn’t important, though. what’s important is you keep writing.
so yeah uhh if you want some specific ideas for a variety of problems, i own a lot of writing work books and the like and have done a lot of exercises and can probably suggest something.

So I'm fiddling with the AI, goofing around having a good time and try to see if I can redo some existing paintings of AJ in the style of different animated movies. So I go with the Rankin Bass style and I get this:

So far so good, but then...
Tumblr media
Is that a horse smoking in the background?!?
And oh no, it does not stop there...
Tumblr media
Oh gawd Andy, where are your arms? Did you fuse with your horse?!
No, it's fine, it's fine. I'm sure I just need to run it through again and...
Tumblr media
OH GAWD IN HEAVEN IT GETS WORSE!!!
🤣🤣🤣
I love how pretty it is at the start but turned into a abomination at the end🤣
I also love the smoking horse in the background in the third pic too!🤭

Something I've been finding out about my Jackson research is that he really is unfairly depicted as a crazy lunatic that will fly off the handle for no reason. Like yeah sure, he had a short temper, but all the times you hear about him going into a fit of rage or doing something seemingly "unhinged" really was just the moment the straw broke the camel's back. People love focusing on the actual moment Jackson does something crazy and never bother to look into the events that led up to it.
e.g. The Dickinson Duel
Dickinson apparently had been harassing Jackson (by insulting his honor and Rachel) because he was getting petty revenge for a relative losing a bet on a horse race. It's crazy how Jackson is labeled as the serial duelist when, if anyone loved killing people in duels, it was Dickinson.
Dickinson had a strategy of choosing his victim, harassing/slandering them, apologizing, then harassing/slandering again over and over until the victim had enough and challenged him to a duel. Dickinson always made sure he never challenged himself as this would give him the advantageous pick of weapon, which for him was pistols.
Dickinson was well-known for his prowess as a pistol shooter, he was deadly accurate. Most duels were only done to preserve one's honor and most would either fire in the air, or intentionally miss, or (if it was serious enough) wish to non-fatally wound their foe to get their anger across. Dickinson always shot to kill, not for honor but for kicks. Jackson's friends constantly warned him that, no matter what, he must not challenge Dickinson for his own sake, but Jackson was never one to take insults directed at Rachel.
Whenever he'd confront Dickinson about his insults, Dickinson would say it was because he was drunk, or didn't mean it, or some BS excuse and it "wouldn't happen again". Then he would just go right back and do it again, repeating the cycle. He even got a teenage admirer, Thomas Swan, to go out spreading insults about Rachel. Jackson swiftly dealt with Swan and warned Dickinson he wasn't gonna take much more of his insincere apologizing.
The final straw was when Dickinson published in the papers that Jackson had no honor. My guess is that Jackson predicted Dickinson's next published accusation would likely be about Rachel, and he wasn't about to let that happen. He challenged Dickinson and it became an accepted fact amongst the locals that Jackson was going to be yet another one of Dickinson's victims.
This wasn't Dickinson's first time doing this either, he had a well-known record. He'd already killed 25(26?) people and in the days leading up to his duel with Jackson, he passed the time by showing off his shooting accuracy to onlookers (fans?) and bragging about what a fool Jackson was for challenging him. Jackson prepared by getting a doctor to agree to be his second so he could have medical attention on hand.
Ironically in the end, Dickinson was the victim of his own game.
I completely agree! He does have so many crazy stories, but that doesn't mean he was all-time crazy. I believe he was more of an nice and friendly guy you really just shouldn't piss off.
I guess it's more easy to focus on the fun parts instead of learning what led to it. And simplifying it than seeing the real and complicated parts as well...
I knew Dickinson was harassing and slandering Jackson over and over again, which irritated me when I was reading a book about this part...😑
But I didn't know that Dickinson already killed about 25 people in a dual?! He was a menace to the people who lived close...
A lot of people already have misconceptions on his duels(One of the aspects people love to talk about him), which is sad since he really didn't shoot to kill people in a dual at all or mostly didn't meet the opponent on a dueling ground.

My friend gave me an inspiration. And this piece was made!
Jackson's bleeding tar instead of blood. Because he's cursed from the people he did wrong.
Is the concept!

Feel free to ask me any of these questions in my asks!
Weird Questions for Writers (because writers are weird)
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?
3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
5. Do you have any writing superstitions? What are they and why are they 100% true?
6. What is your darkest fear about writing?
7. What is your deepest joy about writing?
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
9. Do you believe in ghosts? This isn’t about writing I just wanna know
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
12. If a genie offered you three writing wishes, what would they be? Btw if you wish for more wishes the genie turns all your current WIPs into Lorem Ipsum, I don’t make the rules
13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back?
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end. Spicy addition: Questioner provides the passage.
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
20. If a witch offered you the choice between eternal happiness with your one true love and the ability to finally finish, perfect, and publish your dearest, darlingest, most precious WIP in exactly the way you've always imagined it — which would you choose? You can’t have both sorry, life’s a bitch
21. Could you ever quit writing? Do you ever wish you could? Why or why not?
22. How organized are you with your writing? Describe to me your organization method, if it exists. What tools do you use? Notebooks? Binders? Apps? The Cloud?
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
29. Where do you draw your inspiration? What do you do when the inspiration well runs dry?
30. Talk to me about the role dreams play in your writing life. Have you ever used material from your dreams in your writing? Have you ever written in a dream? Did you remember it when you woke up?
31. Write a short love letter to your readers.
32. What is a line from a poem/novel/fanfic etc that you return to from time and time again? How did you find it? What does it mean to you?
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
34. Thoughts on the Oxford comma, Go:
35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
36. They say to Write What You Know. Setting aside for a moment the fact that this is terrible advice...what do you Know?
37. If you were to be remembered only by the words you’ve put on the page, what would future historians think of you?
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
39. What keeps you writing when you feel like giving up?
40. Please share a poem with me, I need it.
