he said "you behave differently in October"
it is October and my heart is never not full
the swelling in my chest does not die down
i'm intoxicated and how
constantly, irreparably, lovely
drunk on the moon
October is a prayer answered
the warmth that spreads across my chest with a drag
it is physical proof
of the warmth within despite the chill outside
October is a prayer answered
and no words exist for it
so yes, i behave differently
i have no other way
no other choice
the nights seem endless and young and i could live in it forever
walking on pavements in the October dusk
October is a prayer answered
it is living within hope, similar to basking in the little spot of sunlight the sun creates in an October afternoon
it is a poem i wish i wrote
every October i try to tell the story of why i fell in love with Octobers
and every October, i fail.

was talking to a friend when she told "loved the poem you wrote". she was talking about a little thing i wrote a few weeks back, something i had forgotten about. it was brought back to (my) existence by her love and attention, by her earnestness to express. i love being perceived by a friend.

what my hands were made for?
to hold paperbacks
coffee cups, with both my hands to warm myself up
to intertwine fingers with a lover
to cook my favorite breakfast on Sunday mornings
to flip pages, to break spines
to dearly hold a glass of wine
to push hair out of my face
to touch every passing leaf and hold cigarettes
to pick my lips apart when I'm lost in thought
to hold pens and stain myself with them
to be tender
to love

Hi there 👋,
My name is Mohammad, and I’m reaching out in a moment of desperate need. I’m a father of three young children living in Gaza, and we are caught in the midst of a catastrophic war. Our home is no longer a safe haven, and the future here seems increasingly uncertain. 💔
I’ve launched a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $40,000 to relocate my family to a safer place where my children can grow up in peace and have a chance at a brighter future. 🕊️🇵🇸
Unfortunately, my previous fundraising efforts were abruptly halted when my account was terminated without explanation. However, I remain determined to keep fighting for my family’s safety and well-being. 🫶
If you could take a moment to read our story, consider donating, or simply share our campaign with others, it would make an incredible difference. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to safety and a new beginning. 🙏
Thank you for your time, compassion, and support. ❤

father's day is over but
my earliest memory is of my father telling me bedtime stories. It's a vivid memory, i can almost see it, i can feel it, and in hindsight, i see the impact of that simple routine. it was bedtime stories until i learned to read and then he introduced me to comics and short stories. he would always find shops and stalls for me so that he could get me books. it was important for him that i read. he brought me a bookshelf, he brought me any book i pointed my finger at.
then one day it stung him. it stung him that i would love books to the point of wanting a career out of it, that i would pursue this pipe dream. i get his apprehensions and fear, i do. i don't hold it against him. but i wish i could make him understand how much he influenced me and how grateful i am to him for introducing me to books. i wish he would know that i am forever altered due to his continuous efforts which i witness even today when he asks about whatever theory i am studying and wants to know more and wants me to talk about it even when he might not exactly understand why i find so much joy in it. he finds joy in my enthusiasm and spark and that means the world to me

why is shakespeare so over glorified?? like I'm genuinely curious, I've heard people say it's because he understood human emotions so well and because nobody else wrote the way he did but I've read his comedy *twelfth night* and his tragedy *othello*, I don't get why people praise him sm till now when all his tragedy end up the same way, everyone dies at the end + after reading othello, I feel like his concept of 'tragedy' was not clear....also in both of this works and also in julius caesar, there was no character development??? and women are always shown helpless like wdym desdemona did not say anything when she knew what othello was up to??? she let him kill her?? i just don't get it man like i understand maybe this was something new for people of the 15th century, but it's the 21st century now and we're still reading only his works, I feel like there are so many other classical authors whom we can read, like oscar wilde or dostoevsky or bram or jane austen??? :((
hellooo!! Great question, love the question. I think you can choose your relationship with Shakespeare, you're entitled to your opinions on any and all literary figures, despite the canon.
I completely agree that there should be other works and authors too that NEED to be discussed, the curriculum needs to change. Shakespeare should only be a part of it, not the entirety of it.
Personally speaking, I love Shakespeare. I have read works by the other authors you've mentioned too, and I enjoy them all equally. The attraction for me in Shakespeare is the language. Remember that Dostoyevsky is writing in the 19th century, and is profound, Shakespeare is writing in the 15th and equally profound. It's the fact that he was a visionary and could present humanity so eloquently with his words that gets me. He created characters that are still what we call "stock" characters in movies and books. Remember that most of Shakespeare's plays were inspired or adaptations themselves, but it's his twist on them that made his plays a classic.

i have this silent awe and appreciation for experience and wisdom that comes with time. when monotony and redundancy turn into a craft, when the amateur turns into an expert, when it becomes effortless to others. but there is practice hidden underneath it all. years of it. it is how my father can measure distances without any instruments because he has been an engineer for so long and his kids watch him do it in awe. it is how i know just the correct amount of milk and sugar when i make coffee for the people i love and they think it to be alchemy. it is the combination of efficiency and knowledge that only time can bring. gifted talents are great, but a time-honed talent is labor and repetition. you claim it as your own because time has made it yours, time has etched it like a schoolkid etches their initials on the desk over a period of time
