Origins Of Monsters From Different Cultures.
A lot of countries have their own myths and urban legends. These legends can come in the form of spirits, monsters, creatures etc. The stories of these supranatural beings are usually told to either entertain children or scare them.
Baba Yaga
Baba Yaga first appeared in Russian written literature in 1755. She is an evil witch who eats people, usually children. She travels in a mortar that she steers with a pestle. Her home is built of chicken legs.
Ushi-oni
Japan is well known for it's strange monsters and spirits knowns as yokai and kaiju. Ushi-oni was thought to be the demon of an ox which looked like a crab and ox hybrid (depending of the region) who particularly terrorised fishermen out in the sea.
Chupacabra
Back in the 1990s' the legend began as Puerto Rican farmers kept finding their cattle dead and with their blood completely drained. Chupacabra is usually described as a coyote-like beast with enormous fangs and very powerful hind legs which it uses to walk upright.
Yeti
The Yeti is an ape-like creature purported to inhibit the Himalayan mountain range in Asia. He is also commonly known as The Abominable Snowman.
Big Foot
Yeti's close cousin, Big Foot (or Sasquatch) was an ape-like giant who was said to be living in the forests of North America.
Banshee
Banshee, also known as the bearer of unfortunate news, is a fairy from Irish folklore that wails outside a home to warn the imminent death of a family member. She is depicted as an old, deathly woman with a pail face and covered in veil.
Archura
Archura is a shapeshifting woodland spirit from Turkic mythology who protects animals and birds and tells them where to migrate. It usually appears as a man but he is able to change forms from that of a blade of grass to a tall tree.
Strigoi
In Romanian mythology, Strigoi are troubled spirits that are said to have risen from the grave. The are said to have the abilities to turn into animals, become invisible and regain vitality from the blood of their victims. They are the historic link to todays Vampires and the very popular Dracula.
Gargoyles
In French legends, these monsters keep demons and evil forces away from the sacred walls that protect the community of churchgoers, by scaring them away. They also have a purifying role, since they digest unclean water and wastewater and keep it away from the walls.
Halloween
Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.
This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
Bats
The Druids' Samhain bonfires attracted bugs which, in turn, attracted bats. In later years, various folklore emerged citing bats as harbingers of death or doom.
Jack-O-Lanterns
In the 19th century, when a wave of Irish immigrants left their country during the ''potato famine'', they also introduced their own superstitions and and customs, which included the jack-o-lantern. They used to make them out of turnips and beets instead of pumpkins though.
Dia de los Muertos
Dia de los muertos (The day of the dead) , is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration.
On the Day of the Dead, it’s believed that the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolve. During this brief period, the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to feast, drink, dance and play music with their loved ones. In turn, the living family members treat the deceased as honoured guests in their celebrations, and leave the deceased’s favourite foods and other offerings at gravesites or on the ofrendas built in their homes.
One tradition that I particularly like about this holyday is the face painting of the calavera (skull). This tradition is done as a way to respect and cherish the dead .
Each person has their own patterns and shapes. Each colour used represents something different.

r/relationshipadvice I asked my evil villain boss (I'm a henchman) if he'd still love me if I was a worm, and he was all like, "to me, all humans are worms" is he dodging the question?
