We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.

So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.

TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.

They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”

And it fucking worked.

TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.

So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.

Wayne gets off work and finds some kid wandering around a parking lot covered in bruises and nearly in tears because he can’t get the lid off a bottle of ibuprofen, and just takes the kid home.

He never really gets a clear answer out of the kid about where he lives or anything other than being worried about pissing off Hopper and his head hurting, so he stops trying.

He puts the kid to bed on the couch, leaves Hopper a nasty voicemail, and then stays up as long as he can manage to make sure the kid doesn’t die in his sleep.

This is how Eddie wakes up a couple hours later to find his uncle slumped over in a chair and Steve “The Hair” Harrington asleep on the couch.

Wayne is being a hard ass about a ticket Eddie got so…

Eddie is at the police station.

He walks up to the reception desk, knocks his knuckles against the wood and says, “Miss- Steve?”

“Awe, you missed me?”

Eddie hasn’t seen Steve since he seized up on his two days ago. He sputters, “W-what the hell, Harrington? You weren’t at school today.”

“Yeah, man,” Steve says, snatching the ticket out of Eddie’s hand and squinting at it. “I had a seizure, don’t know if you noticed. You were there.”

“I mean what are you doing here?”

“Filling in for Flo while she’s on lunch?”

Eddie gives Steve a look and he just smiles more. He leans forward, looks up through his eyelashes at him when he asks, “Are you here to pay your ticket, Edward A. Munson?”

Eddie rolls his eyes and slaps the cash down on the counter, “You’re not cute, Harrington.”

“I’m adorable,” Steve says, counting the money. He makes Eddie sign some stuff and then tilts his head back, “Come on, I’ll write you a receipt.”

“I don’t really-“

“Come on, Munson!”

Eddie follows Steve back into what has to be Hopper’s office. He watches him shut the door and close the blinds and - “Hey, no way. I’m on thin ice already with your dad. We’re not getting high in here.”

Steve pauses only to laugh before sitting back on the desk, “Fun idea, but not what I had in mind.”

“What do you have in mind?”

Steve loops his thumbs through Eddie’s belt loops and pulls him closer. He asks in a voice that melts Eddie’s resolve like cotton candy, “Kiss me?”

Eddie is having a hard time coming up with a reason he shouldn’t, especially when Steve is pulling his head down to meet his and then-

“Are you kidding me?”

Eddie pulls back and Steve laughs. He tilts his head to see around Eddie, “Hey, Hop! How was lunch with Joyce?”
