Today was #TucansDay in my neighborhood. The community came together for a block party in honor of "Tucan #seanmonterrosa who was murdered by Vallejo police. Follow @justice4sean_ to learn more and donate. I hung around long enough to draw this picture of @allhailtheqing Qing Qi, who delivered a brilliant set of music calling for love, acceptance, and justice. Hell yeah @weloveqingqi. On Thursday I watched an interview with Faith Ringgold and took these #sketchnotes. Thank you to @themuseumofmodernart for giving us a chance to get to know this legendary artist better. I'm sure the interview would have delved deeper into the meaning and nuance of the art had they involved people from their education department, but those experts were all fired in April. I couldn't go to @paseoartistico last night, so I went tonight* - and I'm so glad, because Yosimar Reyes and CeCe Carpio, the two featured artists who I drew, are both brilliant. By Beth Berman, mixed media on some shiny poster board. My mom watched parts 1 and 2 of my "Scribble Away Your Worries" at lesson videos and created this masterpiece. She says, "Do I love the aesthetics? Not so much. Do I love the way I feel? Definitely better." I love the aesthetic because there is such real emotion present.
