So I was posted up in my loft, re-watching “I saw the TV Glow” for the third time while drinking my second Red Bull because apparently I just don’t like myself.

And I think someone, before me, had already said it. But I would like to say it again.

With Pine Point and I Saw the TV Glow, and how they deal with the subject of nostalgia is uncanny. Or just the fear of growing up and the changes that come with it. It hits too close to home.

(‼️ this may include some spoilers on both Pine Point the visual novel and I saw the TV glow. If ya haven’t seen either, I highly recommend to go check em out. I would also like to recognize that I am aware that I saw the TV glow is a movie based on the Transgender perspective of young adults and adolescents. So I know both Pine Point and I saw the TV glow are both separate respective stories, I’m just pointing out the similarities on the nostalgia and fear of change factor ‼️)

Both in a run down, dead end town that feels like it inhabits more ghosts than living people.

Both have a point in the story where two of the main characters share a bond over a nostalgic tv show from their childhood. So for Pine Point, Snail man and Slime Frog. For I saw the TV Glow, the pink opaque.

It’s something that both characters share with each other. It’s a piece of childhood you get to actually relive, even if it’s just for however long an episode is. It is escape from reality, and it’s tied to not only simpler times but also to a person you care about deeply. For a brief moment, it’s safety and refuge from the outside world. And for a flicker of a second, it feels like home. It’s just Dimitri and Nil, or Owen and Maddie.

Nil and Owen come to terms with their own mortality as time passes. That they are aging, and that aspect of life comes with growth and many changes. Some of those aspects scare the living sh!t out of each of them respectively. Both have a job that they don’t necessarily like, but it offers stable cash flow.

Time never moves normally in each respective world, either flying by too fast, or inching by at snail’s pace. You feel constantly watching, like when the residents of Pine Point looking at Nil while he is riding his bike, or how Owen opens the door to see their neighbors staring at them with dead eyes. Yet at the same time of discomfort, both settings are disgustingly nostalgic in the best and worst ways. ( or maybe it’s just me because I grew up in the suburbs).

Both Nil and Owen both rewatched their respective shows, and both came to the same conclusion. That it doesn’t hit the same as a kid, but they watched it anyway for nostalgia’s sake.

Both Nil and Owen have their respective best friends, Dimitri and Maddie. And while Owen and Maddie met later in life, their bond is just as strong. Both Dimitri and Maddie at some point, are going to leave their friends behind. Both having the same goal of making it out of their town, to be anywhere but there. To make something of themselves. They had an idea of who they are and what they wanted to do. And they took that leap, even if it meant leaving people behind.

Even the side characters, Momo and Journey , and Owen’s manager and coworker both serve their own purpose. It’s not the same but parallel if that makes any sense??? Momo and Journey are Nil’s bittersweet reminders of childhood, where you can still be goofy and playful without being so deathly afraid of change. Owen’s manager and coworker, they serve the purpose of being a preview into older adulthood. Again if that makes any sense????

Both settings are similar in nature. Both surreal yet suffocating. It captures the isolation and loneliness as well as the feeling of vulnerability that comes with navigating your own self identity through early adolescence. There is the overwhelming sense of fear and anxiety as well as the odd sense of comfort in familiar surroundings and spaces, almost touching into liminal spaces territory. There is a looming terror of stepping into your true self because fear or nostalgia holds you back.

You get this feeling of just being stuck, stagnant where you stand. Being numb yet feeling everything and anything all at the same time. It hits too close to home. Because I feel exactly what Nil and Owen feel, emotionally and physically. I’m most likely going to be tied down to the exact place I’ve always been, and I’m too scared to ever take my leap of faith. I see all the possibilities of who I can grow into if I just leave, and yet I cling onto familiarity anyway.

Anyway, at least that this is my own interpretation of both the visual novel and the movie. Both are incredible work of art and creativity and I highly respect both works. This post most likely won’t make any type of sense and I might delete it later once i reread it-

✨I got a little silly, so this post may contain some angsty elements than my normal posts.TW of small mentions of blood, anxiety, depression, and dysfunctional family. Scroll away now if anything listed triggers you, remember to take care of yourself ✨

I honestly feel so bad for Stone. Mainly with his rocky relationship with his older sister Avrille.

I mean, of course the possible mis treatment he faced from his parents is completely valid and justified for why he ran away and why it caused emotional damage. But at least your sibling would understand, they are in the same boat as you, right?

Wrong. At least in Stone’s world. Where your sibling instead of being your equal, they become your superior. And how even the gap in your ages drives you further away.

Avrille and Stone were never on the same page. They never had anything in common, even though Stone wanted to at least have something to connect him to his older sister, besides all the violin lessons his parents forced them to take. How at one point Avrille was looked up to by Stone. How she was the blueprint to earning his parents approval one day.

But it was never enough, anything he did to become more than a mere butler in his own house was never enough. No matter the hours spent studying meticulously for every subject to earn high grades, the time set aside for violin practice till his fingers bled, his love for science and his high achieving passions to make a better impact on Ramshackle. It. Was. Never. Enough.

To be over shadowed by Avrille’s new formula, a new candy she put on the market, anything she did came with praise and applause. Everything Stone did, only came with ridicule and criticism. It most likely became maddening after awhile. And since it had been stated by Zeddy themselves that Stone was a lab rat for Avrille, at some point I wonder if he ever felt entitled to her success. He helped her with the new formulas so she could get more candy on the market. Sure it wasn’t the most glamorous part of the procedure, but he helped.

The combination of the mistreatment, being last choice, always second best, never respected, and never being equal, it gave him justification to just give up. Grades started slipping, less effort was put into hobbies forced upon him by his parents, his aspirations and dreams slowly died, nothing was worth working towards anymore.

Stone would wonder why he was even here. Why was he here if he served no useful purpose other than dish shelves and polish dishes? Maybe his parents wanted a male heir to the family business before changing their minds when they saw how Stone was turning out to be. How he was too soft, had too much empathy, he let criticism affect him too much, he didn’t have the same drive and wit as Avrille. He was took weak. Maybe that’s why Stone is so emotionally constipated.

And then when the going got tough he just up and left, burning all his bridges. He abandoned his rivalry, friendship?, whatever it was with Tre. And he just vanished into thin air. He just left and didn’t look back, it was sudden and abrupt but his parents acted like nothing changed. That they didn’t just have a whole human being run away from them.

When Stone joined Skipp and Vinnie he was quick to analyze their dynamic. Just to see how they behaved and how it would affect him, and if they were worth being friendly with. Skipp and Vinnie were probably the first example he ever saw of a healthy relationship. Sure they bickered and threw quips at each other back and forth, but the intention to hurt the other person’s feelings was never there, they were simply joking. And that just baffled Stone completely.

But at the same time as he analyzed their relationship, it brought on a slew of more ugly emotions. People always say how there is a duo in a trio, and Stone was living that reality. At least in his mind. He was distant, for his own reasons, maybe he thought forming lasting friendships wasn’t worthwhile, or he just didn’t want to get hurt… again. Either way it affected his current relationships greatly, Vinnie didn’t know how to deal with the new member, and Skipp struggled to break down Stone’s walls.

Thankfully after a bit Stone grew at least a bit more comfortable, at least from what we see in the pilot and among other official works.

Stone’s past still greatly affects him, haunts him even ( *cough* Pebble *cough*). Where at times he sees Cen and Rigel running around Ramshackle without a care in the world. Sure those twins fight, they argue, they can say mean things to each other. But at the end of the day they will eventually make up instead of letting the tension and animosity drive them apart. Cen and Rigel at least recognize that they need each other,that they can’t survive without each other, and they are equal no matter how many times they debate who is the better twin.

And when Stone sees a sibling relationship so strong and true, it kills him. He wonders how it could be so difficult for Avrille to just treat him with basic respect. He practically glows with envy, the kind that boils your blood, twist your stomach into knots while curling around your wretched heart. At least he has friends, and Stone will realize that family doesn’t have to stop at blood relations.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed!!!!! I just wanted to over analyze the Emo twink a bit, since once you think about it his story is lowkey really tragic. My heart goes out to all the people who kin Stone. I love yall and I’ll see ya soon 😙

Hmmmmmmmmm….. baby Stone and Lena.

I feel like he was born a quiet child, besides from the normal baby noises. I feel like since Stone was around Lena the most as a child, especially as a baby, he copied or mimicked her behavior a lot. I feel like baby Stone was that child you always had to keep an eye on because the second you blink he is somewhere else completely.

Anddddd the only time baby Stone would get excited is when he sees anything that vaguely resembles stars or space in general ( astronomy nerd)

Okay, just to start off. I love ur AU because of how creative it is and making the story ur own. It’s a respectable AU and i love it.

Now, genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, Edward is the worst. Who let that man reproduce? And simply it is not enough that he is dead in this AU.

Because, he basically forced Lena to have another child for the sole purpose of just keeping Lena busy and baby trapping her. As well as just being some sort of energy vampire and making everyone else miserable around him for his own benefit. As well as being the reason Avrille is such a narcissist. Also also, he treated Lena more like property than an adult human being.

Basically, it would be spiritually healing if Edward suffered a kind of Saw trap or final destination type death. But alas, he died as he lived, a coward.
