Fun fact I actually came up with the nickname because of a dragon au (that I didn’t end up fleshing out) but I realized how perfect it was for them in general and made it a nickname they use a lot! :333

I'mma probably sound dumb...But if all the parents saw the video of what happened on July 16th with suns red eyes but he always had white eyes and on that day before it happened he had white eyes...Why didn't they think anything of that? Because they KNOW well also the kids probably also knew sun has WHITE eyes moons the one with RED eyes and they don't switch anymore and even if they did sun would have white eyes still...So no one thought anything about that?

I don’t know if that is what caused this but I do know their is a psychology explanation similar to this. “Observer bias, the phenomenon where the observer’s knowledge of the treatment can influence their observations either consciously or subconsciously” - ScienceDirect

It basically means that what someone believes can influence how they view things. The parents physically saw Sun’s red eyes but because in their mind they believed Sun was guilty their brain overlooked that detail or misinterpreted it.

Fun fact once the actor for Superman “Henry Cavil” stood outside in a busy times square around many Batman v Superman advertisements in a Superman T-shirt and only got stopped twice.

Because they didn’t expect to see a famous actor out on the street they didn’t see a famous actor, they saw just another person.

So it’s actually pretty likely that the parents overlooked that detail, their brains filled in the gaps with what they knew.
