It might be silly but FRIENDS made me genuinely realize that, theoretically, if a “brain transplant” were possible the person who’s brain was getting put in the body WOULD be the exact same person as the brain, not the body, and so when you get down to it there’s not a single organism that is anything more than their nervous system and their ability to process information, allowing them to interact and influence their environment—in the case of Animalia, this would be the brain.

And so maybe that’s where the soul is, the brain. Not the heart, because if it was and you got a heart transplant, then you would have a new soul and would be a new person. But you’re not, are you? You’re exactly the same. So maybe the soul is tied to the consciousness, maybe the consciousness is the soul.

Anyway animals have souls too, because they also have consciousness
