Bloody birds. Thorin holds up two fingers, and gives a little               whistle, offering his hand as a perch
                                                      — Hopefully they’d stop pestering him.

"Would you? Please, for us?" Roac asked, cocking his head to the side. His black eyes blinked as he tried to appear cute for Fili. Cute always worked. "Our wings are sore and feathers wind beaten!"
Roac! Croac! How have you been?
"Well, my prince!" Roac squawked, then hopped onto Fili’s right shoulder. "Though your uncle is overbearing as usual," the elder said as he hopped up onto the right.

"Lord Oakenshield graciously accepts your gift. He sends this pastry to you with sincerest love and affections. He is forever your azungal, and misses you dearly at the moment," Roac read, then held the parchment out to Fili with his pointed beak.
“Yes, please!" Fili said through his mouthful of pastry. He pet Roac's head, fishing out some more bacon bits for him to nibble on as thanks. “I'm afraid my hands are a bit sticky right now..."

The bird gobbled up the bits of bacon, fluffing his feathers as he bobbed his neck to swallow them down. Roac lifted his leg, unrolling the note with his beak. "Do you wish for me to read the words of Lord Oakenshield aloud while you eat?" he asked, tilting his head.
Fili laughed and gave Roac a few tidbits of bacon, letting the raven eat out of his palm. Carefully, he opened the package with one hand and grinned as he saw the pastey in it. “Ah! My favorite! Thorin, you damn sweetheart!" He grinned widely as he shifted Roac to his other arm so he could eat while Roac finished his tidbits.

"Alright, alright!" the raven cawed, then took flight. He returned some time later, with a small scroll and bundled pastry attached to his foot. "Lord Oakenshield sends his regards! The package is for you!" Roac exclaimed, then landed on Fili's arm and pecked at him, expecting the reward.
“Thank you, my feathery friend! I eagerly await your return! Please wait until he’s opened it to come back, and I’ll have a nice bit of meat here for you, aye?” Fili smiled and stroked Roac’s head again.

He pecked at the small parcel, testing the weight with his beak. Then, shaking his head, the raven clutched it in one claw. "Worry not! I can carry this with no problem at all!"
“Please tell him that I love him very much too, and that I have a present for him. Can you carry this to him, or is ut too heavy?” He held out a small pouch that had a sapphire broach inside of it, set in silver.

The raven hopped down to a lower branch so he could get a better look at the man. He seemed harmless enough.
"If that is all you wish then I suppose I shall allow it," he squawked.
Aragorn stared at the raven, needing a moment to assess that it was indeed the bird that had spoken.

"I am but a weary traveler seeking a place to rest. I mean no harm to anyone," he swiftly explained the winged guard.

"And what is that, my prince?" he asked, tilting his head with his beady eyes filled with curiosity.
Fili laughed, petting Roac’s head and smoothing his feathers out with his fingers. “Ah! I thank you for carrying that message, Roac. Perhaps you could carry a message for me?”

Ruffling his feathers, Roac skillfully signed the paper, copying Thorin's hand well enough to be convincing. When finished, he dropped the quill and flew to land on top of the chair.
The elf produced a sheet of paper and set it on Thorin’s desk for the bird’s convenience. “A pity indeed,” Maeglin added with a sly smile.
