This movie is so fucking important to the indian lgbtq+ community you don't even know the half of it
okay guys, there’s something we need to talk about more..
netflix just released the film ‘ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga’ which is an indian movie about a girl who’s into girls and how she gets the courage to come out and face her family and be with the woman she loves. sound familiar? yeah, i know it’s the basic plot of most hollywood lgbtq movies but that’s not the point.
Tumblr media
this is literally the first indian movie i’ve seen on a famous platform, accessible by anyone, that actually represents the lgbtq community in all its beauty and love and affection, rather that scorning or mocking it.
the movie is beautiful and the scenes and the fluff and the cute couple and the emotions just make it so worth watching, and that’s not all.
i’m an indian bisexual teenager and i would’ve been so happy to have been exposed to a movie like this when i was younger. if i had seen this kind of portrayal in the film industry, i doubt that i would’ve been the afraid young girl i was and i would’ve had the courage to do what the main characters did and just BE MYSELF.
all i hope is that someone sees this movie, some little girl out there sees it and knows that she is not alone, that she is not abnormal. with a topic such as this, which has been treated as taboo for decades now in my country (still is kinda), when it is actually being represented and being represented well, i can’t help but wanna scream about it from the rooftops.
also just look at this adorableness:

I'd very much like to punch a feminist.
I’d never, ever hurt a lady but I’d be happy to punch a feminist. It’d bring me great joy.

So today was my first pride...
I live in the greater NY area (NJ) and today was the first time I went to the NYC pride parade (or any openly lgbtq+ event for that matter). Honestly it took a lot of effort to go. I'm not out to my parents but all my friends know. I am currently living with my overprotective parents for the summer and going anywhere outside the house without them is a big deal. So I had to orchestrate this whole thing by going with a friend then met before that lives in ny, ordering a gay shirt to wear to my friends house, promising to stay away from the "gay parade" and so much more.
And honestly, it was so worth it. I have never been in such a warm welcoming environment. All the floats were amazing, I got a lot of free gay stuff, took gay ass pics and more. I never would have ever thought I would be able to do stuff like this as long as I was still not out to my parents.
So when I came home, I told my parents that we saw the pride parade a little (I had to explain the shirt and the gay shit I got). My mother forced me to show her pics and upon seeing that I was wearing rainbow stuff in all of them she asked me if I was gay. It was kind of rhetorical and jokingly but I panicked in the moment for a split second. I somehow responded "no" in a defensive way. Thankfully no further questions were asked but I was so scared.
I probably won't be able to do something like this for awhile because of this scare of almost being outted but this experience was still amazing. 🏳️‍🌈🌈🏳️‍🌈🌈
