I just had the most devastating thought. So apparently Matt pushed Karen away after Foggy “died.” We all know that it probably had to do with Matt feeling grief over Foggy, blaming himself, etc. And Karen probably knows this too on a logical level. But I bet Matt pushing her away, in whatever form that took, definitely reminded her of her dad saying he didn’t want her around after Kevin died.
This is partially why I hate this choice because if you’re going to do something like that, you need to show the emotional fallout or it feels somewhat cheap.

Remember that time Matt had a full-blown panic attack when Karen was taken hostage, to the point he couldn't focus his senses and Elektra had to talk him down? Like that was legitimately a thing that happened.

Would season 2 have been better if, instead of breaking up Nelson & Murdock at the end, Matt, Karen and Foggy chose to tough it out and keep the firm open? Personally I think it would, and that time would heal all wounds.
Of course, it also makes one wonder what would have to happen differently to get that outcome. I feel like the minimum things that would've made this happen is if:
Matt told Foggy and Karen about Elektra the moment she deposited that money in their bank account, instead of only telling Foggy after Elektra tampered with the medical examiner. This would put Foggy and Karen in a position to talk Matt out of going out to fight ninjas, and he commits himself to the Punisher trial full time.
After Fisk's initial defeat, Matt and Foggy sat down to have a serious discussion about Daredevil and what parts of that Foggy is and isn't okay with. (And for Foggy to maybe speak to some of the people Daredevil has saved from being mugged or assaulted or whatnot, so he can understand that Matt's night job is very important.) By doing this and being more supportive of Matt, Matt ends up being more willing to confide in things with Foggy, and in turn also tells Karen a lot sooner about Daredevil.
I think I'm kind of torn about this. It would certainly be better for the characters and their lives, but at the same time, then we wouldn't have the external and internal conflicts that lead to Matt's breaking-down and rebirth in season 3, which in my opinion is some of the best TV ever written. I don't think it would mean as much if he hadn't pushed his loved ones away and basically destroyed his entire life.
I definitely agree with your point about Matt doing the Punisher trial full-time. Obviously we needed to see Matt getting pulled apart by his two different worlds, so I understand why the ninja stuff was included--but at the same time, I feel like it was the weakest part of the show, and really took away from the Punisher stuff. That was the most compelling part of the season for me, and the ninja plot was so distracting. I think they should have balanced those things better, because it really felt out of character for Matt to be THAT bad at his job, lol.
on a personal level, I would love to have seen Matt reconcile with Karen and Foggy and keep things going at the firm, but I think ultimately his poor decision-making and his self-isolation is a part of his character that he had to grow from. Which is definitely the crux of season 3. So I think season 2's painful interpersonal relationships were necessary, from a storytelling perspective, to get the satisfying reconciliation we got at the end of season 3.
I think maybe if the Defenders spent more time focusing on Matt and Karen and Foggy reconciling it might have been better. I know they were already doing that a little bit, but more time spent on that would have made the lead up to the Midland Circle disaster a lot more meaningful.
I like the idea of Foggy and Karen speaking to people DD saved, so they can get a better idea of why DD is important. It could have been cool to see that in s3, maybe in the context of Karen writing articles about Midland Circle, and going on her obsessive search to find out if Matt is still alive (I know she does that with the girl at the hospital, but meeting her was coincidental. It would have been cool to see Karen seeking people out). I think that might have deepened the complexity and nuance of their feelings toward's Matt's night life.
It's definitely interesting to think about. Ultimately I agree that the relationships in s2 felt off--although I do think it was important for them to be apart by the end of it. But I think if we had seen Matt being vulnerable and honest with them (to an extent, at least, even if he doesn't fully reveal who he is) then the conflict would have been heightened at the end when everything falls to pieces.
It's been a while since I've watched s2, but now I'm feeling the urge to start a rewatch, lol

Let's hope this actually means we'll see Brett Mahoney in DDBA, given that they for whatever reason used "Brett" as a codename for Arty Froushan's trailer when his character is Buck Cashman.

So I realized my fic Blind Spot never explains how Matt and Karen got back together...
which is why I wrote a little oneshot fic, as a prequel!
It's a standalone piece, so you don't have to have read any of my longfic for it to make sense. It's also mostly fluff, which I don't often write, but it was kind of fun for a one-off.
There is a sex scene just fyi, but I wouldn't really call it explicit. I did want to give a warning, though, in case people aren't looking for that sort of thing (especially since I don't have any sex scenes in Blind Spot, so this might feel a little unexpected).
Anyway please enjoy!
(The song choice of this story comes from my longfic. I originally chose it on a whim because it had the time signature I needed. Now I've gone and made it a part of Matt and Karen's history. So I guess it's time to go back and retcon that chapter of Blind Spot, lol)

"...Despite going through a massive creative overhaul behind the scenes, Born Again stuck its landing in Matt’s standalone adventure and seems like the makers are going to bestow fans with more of Matt and Karen’s chemistry in Season 2.
"A new image, shared on Reddit by a fan, shows season 2 filming in a familiar location; the Indian restaurant Panna II Garden in the East Village, which served as a location in Netflix's Daredevil season 2 episode 5, where Matt and Karen go for their first date. The location left a mark on the fans with its colorful setting, amazing cinematography, and the moment Cox and Woll created. Seems like Born Again season 2 is revisiting the location after there was palpable tension between Matt and Karen in the first season. Nonetheless, what happens there is anyone’s guess."
...
"Cox previously confirmed that we’ll be seeing 'a lot' of Karen in Born Again season 2 as he effused, 'some of the stuff she’s up to is some of the coolest stuff she’s ever had.' And mind it we have seen Karen doing some epic shit during the original series and in The Punisher, so it’d be interesting to see what she’s up to, as Cox teased, 'She’s amazing in this season.'"

You know. In that adrenaline scene, there's no denying that even though Karen was curious about Frank's feelings for her, she put emphasis on Matt hearing her heart beating for him. She made him focus on that and waited expectantly because she wanted to hear his answer to that more.
And even though Matt kinda dismissed it and acted like it was no big deal, his answer was really soft and showed he was satisfied with what he heard.

can we all just appreciate how extremely funny it is that all these marvel video games (spider-man 2, marvel rivals, marvel tokon: fighting souls) choose to reference daredevil by using nelson & murdock, therefore explicitly including foggy in matt's life because they think their law office is one of the most obvious ways to reference daredevil, while born again did... that?
when random marvel video games doing a cameo/reference to daredevil seem to know more about what's important to the source material than his own show does. lmao yikes.

idk charlie cox saying "foggy is no more" really doesn't mean anything #tome. like let's not forget how many times andrew garfield lied during the filming of NWH. not that i think it's necessarily evidence to the contrary but like, he can't just dodge the question every time, and as of right now, what we know is that foggy is dead so like yeah that's obviously how he's gonna respond
