General Update: Nilspeir, Paintings, and more
Hello everyone,
been a while since the last general update, but there have been a lot of things happening over the past weeks, both around The Hollow Strata and my life, and so I'd like to take the chance to give you an overall update on how things are going.
First: "Nilspeir"
Some time ago I did mention that I started working on a game project, and that "its done when its done". No, it isn't done yet. Yes, progress has been made. I spent most time the past weeks on paintings and studies (among other things) but the game project is still going. Most of my time working on it was allocated to planning how the game is supposed to work, and developing the core systems to build the rest of the game from. Most of those are, largely, functional now: The roaming, the dialogues, events and combat system are all functional. What I need to do now, for the most part, is polish them a bit, prepare the assets (even if its placeholders for now) and build it all together into a functional prototype. I hope that I will be able to show you something a bit more substantial very soon.

Speaking of paintings
A new one is well on its way. The little thumbnails in this blog are WiPs of it. The Hollow Strata didn't sleep, and work is still being done for it! This time it'd be a thematic piece about Ysolde, her character and place in the grander scheme of things. It's been going very well, a lot of practice and studies over the past weeks are flowing into it. Might become a bit of a highlight.
The helmet portrait for Ysolde I never expected to land this well, to be honest. I did dig the design I ended up on myself, but I did not anticipate it connect so well with so many people. I kinda hope my next painting will land just as well, but the algo gods are fickle as you know. If all goes well it will be done next week.
One thing that I noticed while working the past couple weeks is that I have developed a deep desire to really push my work in what I can depict. I have grown rather tired of "character concepts", so to say: Depictions of someone just standing around in some way, where the design itself is the point. In the past weeks I made a lot of paintings for my studies, and I noticed that most if not all of them were scenes of some sort. Even portraits had something happen, and they were way more fun to work on. So I wish to make much more involved pieces going forward.
Thanks for sticking around and keeping up with the updates. More to come soon, so stay tuned!
