Atta boy! I’m going to miss having you for class, brother!
IT COMES TO AN END Week 16
As the semester comes to an end its time to reflect on the time that we’ve spent in RWS and what we’ve learned. This semester we learned how to find a problem and write about in a non biased way using strong rhetoric tools such as ethos pathos logos. Using these tools throughout the semester we then can push our readers in a direction that we want them to go. So with all of this knowledge take from the class I will continue to use it all throughout college as I write more reports. It will help me by using the rhetoric tools in other classes that may require them as I know that I will have to use them because I am a communication studies major. https://media3.giphy.com/media/xTcnSXDc4tRe27yS8o/200w.gif Now what I hope to do with this knowledge beside continued to use it in school is to use it in my future career in the United States military career. If I am able to use pathos logos ethos in any speech that I give to my future men then I will know that this knowledge came from my RWS class. I hope that I will be able to use them as effectively in my speech as I hope to be in my writing. If there is any advice I could give to future student is to make sure that they really focus on those rhetoric tools. They are not just used in this class but will be used in many more. Also have fun with any multi modal project or assignment given. Audrey’s 1302 class is different from others in the sense that she make assignments and projects fun and creative. Also do each step of the assignment so it doesn’t pile up and the end of the day.

[What] Happened to the Semester
I've always had a love hate relationship with this class. It had really helped me with some of my other classes and it has challenged me in many different ways. Unfortunately the class is not exactly a walk in the park. (There is a pun intended because I am currently writing this at a Chihuahuas game). Let's talk about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think one of the best ways this class has helped me is in learning how to conduct proper research and how to develop a paper in a way that is complete and unbiased. I had never realised how important it was to have a good background and foundation for a paper. This class taught me that the page minimum is for those who do not fully develop their research, that when you do your work, you have to ask if it is okay to go over the page limit.
Tumblr media
This was important for me to learn because I have been able to use it in my other classes in developing papers. It does add a little more work to the "minimum" effort I could be doing, but in applying the techniques that I have learned, I have seen an improvement on my scores and positive reinforcement from my professors and TAs.
Tumblr media
Now that I am done with RWS, I will probably be slowed down in my learning of how to write papers and how to make sure I am writing clearly and concisely, but I will continue to use what I have learned. I will also give tips to my friends and peers if they need help in writing a paper. I know that what I learned will go with me into my career and will be useful to me for the rest of my life.
Tumblr media
A bit of advice that I leave behind is to make sure you try on the assignments. I found that there really was no excuse for a poor performance in this class. Sure, it might be a lot of work, and it might seem tedious, but it seriously is easier to do if you actually try. I love how the class is set up so that each assignment feeds into the next and by the end of the semester you've done tons of research and have written a developed paper with much less anxiety than when you're trying to decide what to order at Whataburger. What you get out of this class will far outweigh what you put into it. s hard as it may seem at the time, it will help you so much more to put more than your minimum effort into the class. Who knows, maybe you'll even look forward to going to class.
GOOD LUCK FAM.

Good post! I like to see that you've grown in your advocacy through the experience of the documentary!
Week 15 Almost There!
Part 1
In order to get my audience attentions by using ethics by showing stating a true story on the fight for women equality in the U.S. military.  I will have the story based on two female army personnel, Cpt. Griest and Lt. Haver.  This information will be back up by military news and files.
Tumblr media
Part 2
In the policy part I will use the past policy which is the whole reason why this fight for women equality.  This will start to use logos because it will show how the military was still in a traditional view.  But then will go into the new policy which is brought up by the next generation of military policy makers (joint chief of staff).
Tumblr media
Part 3
This part is the call to action and what better way to start a movement than to hit them right in the emotions.  By using pathos I will use examples that women, mothers, answer the call to serve just as any other man have the exact same right to lead the charge in the front line.  Also bring back past situations where women have fought for what they want and no matter what they will succeed. This will cause an inspirational feeling throughout the audience.

Since you asked...
Here is my opinion on how I will construct my opinion (piece).
Tumblr media
I will grab my audience’s attention by sharing with them the consequences of them not voting, or encouraging those around them to vote. This will create a sense of urgency (pathos) and I will be using some pretty shocking numbers with them (logos). I have found that only 21% of registered voters in El Paso voted during the last presidential election.
Existing policy really varies by state. Well there really is no policy for voting. But since I am advocating for voter ID, that also varies greatly by state. This is a very controversial issue in regards to voting, so that immediately sparks pathos. I will be using a different angle, however, to gain ethos and use logos to show that it might not be such a terrible idea at the end of the day. For example, the voting turnout might likely increase by 23 million people.
Tumblr media
Action required is actually not that difficult in this case. All people really have to do is go out and vote. Have their voices be heard. That builds up a lot of logos and pathos.

I love the video on the tips! Great post!
Week 14
Section 1: Public Speaking
Evans’ speech was incredible, his idea was to make people understand what the “global citizen” is and what they do, to do a speech like this there is a need to prepare in several ways like rehearsing every single aspect for example time, tone of voice, clarity and even the reactions that you’ll make in specific times.
I’ll give you a great link to a video that can help you improve your presentation skills
youtube
Section 2: Public Opinion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
http://news.utexas.edu/2015/08/24/texas-needs-more-diversity-in-stem-and-this-is-how-to-do-it
This Op-Ed talks about how we can increase diversity in the field of STEM in the state of Texas, they talk about the advantages of having a job and being part of a minority in this field like that there are very well paid positions and this also tells us ways to make diversity grow like thinking about culture, families, etc.
Section 3: Public Outreach
I was thinking of making some kind of organization that could make talks to persuade minorities into studying in STEM, that way STEM would get bigger and then there would be better economy.

Public Speaking:
The TedTalk we watched was a great way to connect the topic from our research to advocacy. I believe that the video has some great rhetoric and can give us tips on how to promote a topic and encourage action alongside awareness and advocacy.
I found a great article with 7 tips about public speaking on ABCNews webpage. The first on the list, and my personal favorite, “the audience is the most important person.” I believe this is the most important because it truly does matter for a speaker to know, understand, relate to, and care about their audience. A lack of connection with the audience is the beginning of a speech gone to waste.
Tumblr media
It is so important for the audience to feel as if the speaker cares about them and that they feel that they can relate to the speaker. This creates a bond that will allow them to listen more intently to the ideas and advocacy that is being shared and will lead to a more responsive audience. If this aspect of public speaking is ignored, the audience will feel disconnected and will not listen very well to what is being said.
Public Opinion:
I found this great Op-Ed on the LATimes webpage!
Tumblr media
One connection between this Op-Ed I found and the TedTalk is that they both clearly represent the problem to the issue that they are trying to advocate for. Both sources point out salient arguments in favor of a solution that they would advocate for.
One concept that was discussed in the TedTalk was the need for action. Collective action, rather. People may ask themselves, “What difference would my vote make?” and in their narrow mindset would opt out of voting and stay home. A point that Mr. Evans brought up in the video is that if we all act, then we are not alone. If more people were to go out to vote in this election cycle, we would have no issue of diversity. 2016 contains the most diverse electorate in the history of the United States of America. There needs to be a collective movement to vote.
Tumblr media
Public Outreach:
These connections could turn into real life change if more people realized that, though their action may seem like a single action, if everyone were to do it, the collective action would bring change. One drop of water can evaporate easily, but a rain storm can flood an area.
I think the genres that are available and can most clearly help convey these ideas are info graphics and videos containing the actual numbers correlating with voting diversity. I believe that when people see how real the numbers are and how they are not acting alone, they will be moved to act and to create change.

Good info and gif combos! I like the hard work!
Take 13 Light!Camera!ACTION
We are approaching the end to this assignment.  There are just a few things that need to be addressed in this post before we are done with our film and are able to put it on the big screen.
Tumblr media
First of all I will dedicate a little bit of time everyday to collect information need for the final creation of this film.  I’m looking at about 30 minutes a day.  This is actually the time I will be working alone.
Tumblr media
Now as a group we have dedicated the end of the week to gather all of the information, put it together, and edit the film.  We have Friday to put all of our information together and Saturday will be the day that we can edit the film.
On Friday we will look over the information that all members of the group bring to the table pick what we know will support our topic and flows good.  We want the information to be the best and that is why we are dedicating this day to strictly information and flow.
Tumblr media
Saturday is the day where we will add all the bells and whistles to make this documentary look the best it can be.  Editing is saved for this day because we will have all the information present thus giving us all the time we need to edit.
Tumblr media
The information part is what is hurting us the most.  We want to make sure that it is good solid information that viewers will be able to understand and use.  Everyday the group IM’s each other to discuss their findings.  We agree with what we think will fit but the only real way to know is on Friday.  We want our film to have solid information and not information like a low budget foreign film
The editing part is our strongest suit in this project.  For the most part the group knows how to use the software to make a film.  We feel comfortable because we have used this before.  In other words our group is going to be able to make the Academy Awards by the time we are done just like our good friend Leo.

Great post! I found it really informative and it will definitely help me out when I get together with my group!
Week 12
Diversity for Woman in TV Broadcasting
Tumblr media
Purpose:Broadcasting is an area that people use in order to communicate, entertain, and debate on any topic of their liking. There are many ways of communicating such as film, radio, or television. The problem is there is no equal representation of genders. Men have the majority lead in all areas of broadcasting, specifically in the role of news anchor. Whether they always have the leading role with a female co-host or larger segments.
Audience: Our intended audience includes men and women over the age of 18, females pursuing a career in broadcasting or film, and those who watch news.
Solution: Our solution is to empower women to pursuit the career in the male dominant field, and inform them of laws that help them. Finally to encourage the  audience to take part in petitions and movements for gender equality.
Tumblr media
Ethos: “Both scholarly and industrial research points to the barriers that woman face in the broadcasting industry. In an outgoing study of communication undergraduates and graduates, Becker finds that woman consistently outnumber men as communication majors at the undergraduate level,” (Books, C, 2010). Men still hold majority of the job positions even though more women major in broadcasting.
Pathos: “Female mentors can help teach and inspire young women. Networking helps empower woman in the industry. Creativity and willingness to implant new management styles help to reform corporate media culture,”(Books, C, 2010). Woman have the ability to make a difference when given the chance.
Tumblr media
Advocacy: “ Companies and associations could also institute internship programs for graduate and undergraduate woman in which they shadow top executives. Such internships provide students with glimpses of management and ownership opportunities,”(Books, C, 2010).
For example, Turner Broadcasting System Inc. provides a paid 11-month training program called the Turner Trainee Program or T3. This program provides mentoring and job skills development, helping recent graduates jump-start their careers (Turner, 2008). This can be very beneficial to becoming successful in broadcasting.

Solving Problems One Step at a Time
For this weeks post, we are i the planning stages of our documentary. We've split up the work between our group because we are all busy college students with more than one class. I took on the task of the solution. A solution is beyond simply advocating a side of a topic... It is putting together a call to action for the audience. Since the beginnings of civil rights movements, women have been fighting for their rights and for gender equality. If policy allows that women are able to take on combat roles, but then are given “easier” tests to suit gender inequalities, then equal has turned into the unequal. Equality must mean the same thing across the board or it just becomes another area where diversity is lost in policy. The problem with changing policy is that it takes movement for it to be successful. One of the major problems with our nation is that people share their position on issues, but do not show up when it matters; the polls on election day. “If everyone were eligible to vote voted, then you would have resolved any concerns about diversity…” The power one’s vote carries is lost every time they don’t exercise their right and their duty as American citizens to vote. The proposition stands. Diversity and equality will be a concern of our nation as long as those who are not voting continue in their path. The framers of the Constitution of the United States of America so carefully wrote that “these truths are self-evident, that all men are created equal…” It is simple to understand that it is on election day that real change is made and if that is the least salient aspect of our advocacy, we are exhausting our time and our effort for real change.

I really like that you are planning on sharing your information with others to encourage them to join your field!
I have learned a lot this couple of weeks! This was the first time I conducted a formal interview with someone important and well my research has taught me so many great things, I am kind of worried now that I know that minorities in my field are extremely underrepresented compared to the majority, this research has also helped me to improve my researching skills, this was the first time I used a database to find scholarly articles, this will definitely make me more smart and wise.
Tumblr media
I believe that I learned all of this to help me understand where I am going, before I did all this research the only think I knew was that I liked physics but now I know that hispanics are about five percent of the whole physics field, this will help me understand that after graduation things may not be very easy but it also motivates me to say that I will be part of that five percent and work hard to try to make that five become a twenty or why not a fifty!
Tumblr media
Now that I know all this information I can use it to try to persuade people int getting into STEM, this is such a beautiful and competitive field and all the minorities have great capabilities that if we use we can make great changes in the future world

Reflection/\noitcelfeR
This semester. through the process of writing this research paper, conducting research, and even doing my own primary research I have learned a lot about how my field works and what it is like in terms of scholarly and professional thinking.
I believe that what I learned about the field of politics is important because as a freshman, I believe that it helped give me insight on what the field looks like beyond the point of what you hear about it on the surface. I think that this helped me most in the field of my position as a citizen of a democratic nation because this being an election year, I gained a lot of insight on how campaigns work and why the candidates say what they say in order to get the votes that they need to win.
Tumblr media
Now that I have completed my research, I believe that I will use the knowledge that I have gained to continue to research in my field for other reasons and use the methods that I learned to better perform in that. I really enjoy that I learned how to properly develop a research method and paper and that will be applicable to me for the rest of my college career and professional career after that.

Methods & Interview Material
What are the requirements for this section?
Tumblr media
These are basically the instructions for doing the research methods page. The research methods thing was kind of confusing to me at first so I did a little research to try to understand it better and I found a video that talks about different kinds of research methods.
youtube
We also need to send an interview request to someone in order to have our primary source, we need to try to record the interview, if we get the interview send the person a confirmation email. I will leave you a video about a good way to do an interview.

I’m on the same boat in waiting for a response! Well, if this wasn't for class, I would love to see your interviewee actually sit like that during the interview, but unfortunately, they have to sit like this:
Tumblr media
I really like your question and am excited to see your interview!
Week 9 Permission  To Speak!
This weeks tumblr post has to do with the beginning stages of our interviews.
First we need to ask for an interview
Tumblr media
Once we are done with this step then we must locate the interview release form.
Tumblr media
We will need to take a hard copy of this to the actual interview once it is approved.
Once we have done these steps we then can begin drafting our research question.
Tumblr media
Then we save our Confirmation letter to our drop box
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my materials I am going to use in order to conduct the interview will be my go pro for a visual recording. ( if it is okay with interviewee)
Tumblr media
My IPhone for voice recording. (if it is okay with interviewee)
Tumblr media
And of course I will have a notebook and pen to right down additional notes.

This week, I’ve been preparing for my interview. It has been challenging and exciting. I cannot wait to see what my interview has to say about my topic.
I have attempted to contact Congressman Beto O’Rourke for my interview. Here is my proof that I have sent him a message!
Tumblr media
I have downloaded and saved my interview release form to my dropbox account!
Tumblr media
After doing that, I had some fun coming up with some questions to ask Mr. O’Rourke should he be available for an interview!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have downloaded and saved the interview confirmation so that I can have it easily accessible should Mr. O’Rourke e-mail me back agreeing to be interviewed.
Tumblr media
As I prepare for my interview, I have gathered the resources I will need to record it, both on video and by hand.
Tumblr media
Now I’m ready for my interview!
