share an example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled. help us feel the feels #writ318mu #week14
I remember there was a show back when the channel Freeform was known as ABC Family. It was called The Nine Lives of Chloe King. It was based off of a book, but was picked up for adaptation. It had one season and ten episodes. I remember being so invested in that show. I watched it every night that it aired and season 1 ended on a MASSIVE cliff hanger. It was almost like they knew or marketed it so that it would get a continuation. I waited for weeks for any word about the show but then it all just suddenly went quiet. ABC Family never really said it was canceled or no announcement was made unless you went looking for it. I was so upset but like every other teen drama I watched in that era, I eventually forgot about it but it sometimes comes back into the back of my mind.

share a section of your Design Project content. What is the work of this sample? How can we help you revise?
I posted an example of an original content piece that I created for this project in my post for the professor, asking for more feedback on it, but here is an example of what I created on my TV show's Instagram story. This to me the easiest way to create posts, so I highly recommend it, but with Instagram, I’m struggling to find new ways to post my content and overall I feel like my content is very repetitive which I would love to get feedback on how I can change that and make it better and more creative will also still appealing to the Instagram audience. I can’t really make a Reel for this, but as I am creating my last seven posts as the TV show account reacting to people‘s criticism of the cancellation, I’m a little stuck on ideas and how to be more creative. I would love suggestions as to how my other Instagram creators are making their content so unique. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?

When watching Season 9 of drag race lots of the Drag Race fandom had some big issues at the time when Valentina was lip-syncing Nina Bonia Brown and was sent home due to Valentina not knowing the word to Greedy by Ariana Grande which pissed a lot of fans not because Valentina didn't know the words but due to the fact she was sent home and consider fan favorite and wanted Nina to send herself home after winning the lip-sync for her life cause a out roar of fans harassing the queen with harsh comments and even death threats due to the position.

Original Content Week 14 - Post 2
• Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
My “Favorite Show” is an animated series based on an actual play ttrpg campaign. It has a lot in common with Critical Role’s Vox Machina given that aspect but the show I’m using as a large source of inspiration is actually Game of Thrones.
The more serious vibes, the attention to detail, the fantasy being more grounded with a dark edge, it coming from a solid and rich source material with a lot of potential. Only for it be mishandled and end on a sour note.
Game of Thrones could have been THE show, it was so well done and well received to the point where everyone was taking about it, even people who aren’t necessarily big into the fantasy genre. People, myself included, were really enamored by the show. For myself it felt like the first time a show felt a piece of art in a similar vein to watching a quality film.
It’s ashamed it had such a sorry end.

What assignment questions do you have that will help you complete and revise successfully?
“Where will the angry fans post - as reply tweets?”
Is this asking if will they post the tweet to their main account, under a fan account, under hashtags?
“How will you share the cancellation post on Twitter? Will you include images?
Are you just asking what elements I will include within the post? For example, The company makes a tweet that starts with, “🚨 ‘FAVORITE SHOW’ announcement,” followed by a lengthy explanation. Then Below I Add a photo of the front cover of the series?
Then You said my audience replies are very wooden which I understand how. I brought up how the Favorite Show ruined the FL character development and now she can't get a redemption arc with the show being canceled. The show can't be brought back and the character twist cannot be reversed. I struggle to think of ways to apologize to a fan without patronizing them. I also don’t want to be repetitive in my replies, but I don’t want it to seem like I’m brushing them off either by just apologizing.
- Is it good to offer explanations for the cancellation even if i already announced why? Or evening offering ways to stay connected to the fan base?
- This is the revised reply I tried based off my questions
E.g. “We understand your frustration with Phae’s character change and the follow up of the show's cancellation. We felt that this reflected her deeply wounded childhood resurfacing due to her abusive and manipulative father. We felt this was essenatial to push her character development and her bond with Kieran. We had plans in the future to bring #Phaeran back. Sadly, due to the lack of funding, we were unable to close their love story. We hope to make a comeback in the future, and hope you can stick around for the journey.”
You also said I have mixed hashtags, should i make all my tweets have at 1 hashtag that is all the same e.g. #favoriteshowcanceled?

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie -- how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
One of my favorite shows is Stranger Things, and it really helps me understand angry fandom and how fans react when something they love changes. When characters were killed off, relationships shifted, or the plot started to move away from what made the show great, fans flooded social media with frustration and disappointment. Some even made petitions or vowed to stop watching. Their reactions weren’t just about being mad but they were emotional because they felt connected to the story and its characters. That kind of passion helps me see both sides: the fans who feel hurt or betrayed, and the creators or network who have to respond thoughtfully without making the situation worse.

Thursday Check-In Post (4/24)
what assignment questions do you have that will help you complete and revise successfully?
Hello @npfannen!
I have two questions, one about the reflection and one about the design project.
what notes do you want for this week's reflection? The page says something about week 4 notes, but I wasn't sure if that was a typo, or if you wanted us to submit notes from earlier in the semester.
For the design project, do you want us to do a small reflection for every single sample post that we did? And how do you want it all submitted? If we have to reflect on every post, I might just put everything on a google slides document.
Thanks for the clarifications!

One of my all-time favorite shows is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Loving this show has definitely helped me understand angry fandoms more, especially in the adult animation space. Even though Sunny isn’t animated, the humor is just as dark and ridiculous, and a lot of fans cross over between the two. What I’ve noticed is people get super defensive about these shows, like if someone criticizes the characters or the jokes, fans flip out and act like it’s a personal attack. Working on this project, I see how fandoms can turn toxic fast when people can’t tell the difference between satire and reality. It’s like, the characters are supposed to be terrible. That’s the humor.

What assignment questions do I have to help me successfully revise?
For me when I saw that it was asking for us to revise our posts but to make them seem like posts that would be posted on the platform we chose, should we also add images and hashtags to them to make it seem familiar to the platform? For me I chose to use Tumblr as the platform, so should I use hashtags and images since for our posts we tend to do that?

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
Chicago PD inspired the cop drama genre I chose for this project. Watching it helped me see why fans get so angry. When a character dies or the story stops at a big cliffhanger people are shocked. The emotional investment helped me understand why reactions of fans are intense, and that was how I created my angry fan posts and responses.

An example of my experience of a fan of a show that was canceled was being mad and upset. I didn’t even want to finish the show because I did not wanna recognize the fact that after I finished it it will be over for good.

share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom? #writ318mu #week14
One of my favorite shows recently was Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It’s an anime with only one season that is based on the popular video game, Cyberpunk 2077. I’ve played the game so I was really excited for the series and it was amazing. Though after I noticed the talk online were fans wishing for a season two, even though it was stated that there would only be one season, or how people wished a certain character had a different life outcome (won’t spoil what happens). I drew some inspiration from the interactions I saw here and even how I’ll likely edit my draft. A lot of fans praised the show but were understandable upset that there wouldn’t be more. However it never took away from how amazing the story and characters were and a lot of fans chose to hold onto what the show means rather than if we’ll receive more content.

Share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
One of my favorite shows that is experiencing some controversy right now is The Last Of Us. A lot of fans have been upset over the casting of certain characters such as one of the main protagonist Ellie and another main character Abby. This show has been adapted from a video game, so people have been complaining that the characters from the show don't look like their video game counterparts. This show helps me while working on this project by seeing how the show and actors deal with this hate.

W14 Original Content Post
My favorite genre of show is reality TV with my favorite show being Big Brother. For my project, I chose to make the "Favorite Show" a reality TV show similar to Big Brother. This made the project much easier for me. When creating the angry fan comments, I was thinking of how I would feel if Big Brother cancelled a season right in the middle of it. By doing this, I was able to channel the anger I would feel and put it into the emotions of the angry commenters of the “Favorite Show” cancellation. Overall, making the “Favorite Show” similar to my actual favorite show made this project much easier.

I have a quick question about our design project. For the fan post and response, I’ve been creating content in Tumblr and taking screenshots—so it looks like an actual Tumblr post, even though I haven’t actually published them. Is this an acceptable format for turning in my work?

So, for the second part of the Design Project, I am just revising the sample posts and then reflecting? So, is the only “essay writing” part of this assignment just the reflection? I just want to make sure I do not miss any parts. I also realized I have been using Twitter when talking about X throughout my project so I will edit this in the final draft.
