Traditional Christmas and Holiday Breads from Around the World
Tumblr media
Whether you love food, or love to bake, or just someone who loves having fun in the kitchen, there is no doubt that Christmas time is something to look forward to when it comes to baking. One glance in any grocery store, and it's easy to see why. From trays upon trays of cookies and singles, pies, cakes, and cupcakes that are covered in Christmas colours and sprinkles galore, there is no shortage of things to bake during the holidays.
The smell of fresh, hot bread baking in the oven is music to any baker's ears. From shortbread to challah, from sweet brioche to classic baguettes. There are more varieties of bread out there than you could imagine! Christmas bread is often more decorative and has celebratory qualities. Such as the Bulgarian Christmas Bread that symbolizes prosperity for the upcoming year. Other classic Christmas bread from around the World include Panettone or Stollen, filled with fruits and nuts.
Let's see some of the Christmas Breads around the World:
Stollen Bread :
Stollen bread has been a German holiday tradition for centuries. Its origins date to 13th century Germany, and it is now popular around the World. A sweet bread with dried fruits and candied orange and citron zests. Stollen get its rectangular shape from three baking pans and its gently spiced aroma. The rich flavour from rum-soaked dried fruit and myriad spices: cinnamon, clove, cardamom, anise seed, ginger, nutmeg, lemon peel and orange peel. Let the flavours mingle for several days before slicing thinly to serve warm or at room temperature as a dessert or midmorning.
For best results, allow Stollen Bread dough to rise at room temperature for 4 hours. Bake in an oven preheated to 350°F for approximately 35 minutes, or until tops are golden brown. Make-ahead tip: Stollen keeps well on the countertop for 3 days. Rewarm stollen on a baking sheet in a 250°F oven for 12-15 minutes, or until warmed through.
Krendel Christmas Bread:
Try this tasty Krendel Christmas Bread recipe! It's an important Russian tradition to have this during the holiday season. Ideally, you want to allow plenty of time for the dough to rise, so it has a nice, soft texture with a delicious filling of pears, apples, cherries, honey and nuts. If your kitchen is cool, you may need more time for it to properly rise.

Britain’s Best Christmas Desserts
There is a great variety of traditional desserts to try during the Christmas and New Year's holidays. Certain preparations start as early as September for the Traditional Christmas cake in Britain. Check out various options try  bring up your holiday cheers  the British way !
Best Christmas Desserts:
Tumblr media
Christmas Cake:
On Christmas Eve, it's the tradition in Britain to have a slice of Christmas cake, which was called plum pudding in olden times. Its origins supposedly go back to Medieval Italy . When in the Twelfth Century Charles the Great in Germany took over the city Palermo, which had similar traditions. The cake or pudding contains dried fruits marinated in brandy or rum, spices, raisins, almonds, oranges and apples. It is very rich with candied peel and whole spices, which gives it a wonderful flavour.
Looking for an alternative cake then a Scottish Dundee cake would be great. It is packed with fruits and nuts and is less heavily flavoured with spices. It's not as heavily spiced as a classic British Christmas cake. So if you're looking for a more subtle Christmas cake, try a Dundee.
Mince Pie:
Traditionally eaten after Christmas dinner, mince pie remains the second most popular treat to serve during the Christmas holiday in Britain. Fruits and spices, are used together with suet and wrapped in light, melting pastry.
For a festive twist on a traditional mince pie, try a frangipane mince pie. It is similar like the traditional mince pie and has a welcoming cover of almond-flavoured cake. It's  topping provides a unique flavour combination.
British Christmas Pudding:
There is no better way to kick off your holiday season than with a traditional English Christmas Pudding. American puddings  are dark, sticky, and dense sponge. It looks like a fruitcake, with mixed dried fruit, candied fruit peel, apple and citrus zest. The use of Brandy and spices provide a deep, complex flavour and signature dark colour.
Although the number of ingredients may seem daunting, the recipe will come together easily if you prep everything ahead of time. Christmas pudding is best enjoyed after it sits for a few weeks so the flavours can mingle and mature.
Trifle:
A British dessert of a 'trifle' is a quintessential treat that has graced British tables for hundreds of years. It is simply luscious and usually includes alcohol, while the fruit can be an acquired taste for some.
An English trifle is made with Sponge fingers or pound cake, soaked in sherry, jelly, a thick layer of creamy custard, and lightly whipped fresh cream. The rest is all about personal preference. A delicious trifle is made with jelly, so that children can enjoy it as well as the adults because it gives the cake more texture. If you prefer a trifle without jelly, proceed without it—this will be quicker to make because it doesn't need to be set up in the fridge. Both are equally delicious.
Scottish Shortbread:
Butter was a luxury item before the invention of margarine, which allows us to make shortbreads more often. Scottish Shortbread is eaten around Christmas and an essential part of Hogmanay. Shortbread is made using a lot of butter,so it was considered a special treat.
Scottish shortbread cookies are made for snacks any time of the day. The success depends on handling the dough with care and working it as little as possible. For storing the shortbread, choose an airtight container and keep it in a cold place for a week or ten days in the fridge.
Yule Log Cake:
A classic Yule Log Cake is served throughout the Christmas in Europe as a traditional cake. This recipe is a classic version using a chocolate sponge cake and Italian buttercream. It can be made with sponge cake, and flavoured and filled with ice cream, whipped cream, mousses, ganaches, fruit, and more. The variation might change, the technique is the same. A simple filling that is rolled as a swirl and decorated with buttercream.
Stollen Cake:
Stollen cakes are quite popular around the Christmas holidays. We should eat it at other times as it is utterly delicious. It's filled with almonds, dried fruit, and citrus peel inside a rich pastry dough.
These are some of the best desserts that are served during Christmas time. This special occasion is filled with love, family, friends, drinks and food. Let's check out the dessert list Brook pub in Cambridge has to offer during this Christmas season. We have come up with a special Christmas menu with new recipes to make your holidays even more special. It will be available from the 25th of November to the 30th of December. So don't wait till the festival is here enjoy our food and keep coming again !!

Cocktails for your Perfect Taste by Brook Pub
Tumblr media
In the simplest terms, a virgin drink is a drink that does not contain any alcohol. It's also known as a mocktail. Often, when making mocktails and virgin drinks, one will replace the alcohol with a flavored mixer like ginger ale, ginger beer, or tonic water. A virgin drink can be served cold, warm, or at room temperature or serve it  with or without ice. It can have any number of flavors or ingredients added (such as fruit or vegetables). It can come in sugar-free, gluten-free, or alcohol-free varieties.
The best thing about drinking virgin cocktails is that there are a lot of options available. There are so many different types of virgin drinks out there that it's hard to choose. If you're looking for something sweet, try a frozen strawberry margarita. If you want something fruity and refreshing, try a raspberry limeade. If you're feeling adventurous, try a minty green tea. If you're in the mood for something sweet but not sweet enough, try a chocolate martini.
Brook Pu serves some of the best Cocktails as well as Virgin cocktails: Let's check them out
The Blue Hawaiian Mai Tai :
The Blue Hawaiian Mai Tai is a signature cocktail served at several locations around the world. The drink was created in 1967 by Donn Beach and is a variant of the Mai Tai cocktail. The drink consists of dark rum, pineapple juice, mango juice, blue curacao and lime juice. The drink is garnished with a pineapple wedge, filled with ice and grenadine syrup. The drink is served in a frosted glass with a pineapple wedge on top.
Blue Hawaiian Mai tai is a popular drink among college students that originated in Hawaii. The drink is easy to make and can be made in any size glass.  This drink is sweet and refreshing and is a great drink to share with your friends.

How we serve the best burger in the market a blog around Burgers
First of all, what is a burger? A hamburger is a sandwich consisting of a cooked patty of ground meat. It is usually served in a sliced bun as part of a larger meal. But, there are many types of burgers in the market. Starting from the traditional hamburger to the cheeseburger. In this article, we will discuss how to make one of the Best burgers for most taste and satisfaction.
Burgers are one of the best high-protein foods, and among these burgers, we have many types. For example, there is a classic burger, a burger with cheese, a burger with meat changes, the meat, and so on. But what makes a great burger?
There are many factors that can affect the quality of the burger:
The quality and freshness of beef and ingredients. The excellent taste of beef is due to its tenderness. When we cook the meat we must pay attention to the quality and freshness of the meat. It is because if it does not make good taste for our mouth, it will make us sick.
The seasoning of the mushrooms or other ingredients such as garlic or onions adds flavor. These seasonings make a good taste for your mouth if they are fresh and of good quality. These seasonings also add flavor to the meat. So you must use it in every bite that you eat to get the best taste.
The ratio between cheese and vegetables or other ingredients such as bacon or onions must be right. We must not put too much cheese in our mouths as we can get fat. When we are using cheese in burgers, these ratios are very important when eating.
Tumblr media
If you want to make sure that your burgers are delicious, you have to get all the right ingredients. The best way to do this is by using a meat grinder. You can use any type of grinder, but it’s important that you get one that has an adjustable blade. This will ensure that your burgers get grounded well and produce a great result every time.
You’ll also need some method for storing your ground beef before cooking it. You should always use airtight containers. This is because your burgers will only be good for a day or two. If you go this route, you should invest in some vacuum sealer bags. These are great for making sure that your burgers stay fresh. It helps not to lose too much quality on the way to market.
There's a fundamental problem with the burger industry. People should understand how to make a great burger.
A good burger should be juicy and flavorful, with a crust that holds together and doesn't fall apart. It should have a good balance of beef to bread (and some other things, like tomato). It should cook in medium-well and serve on fresh-baked bread.
One of the most important elements of any burger is that it has some sort of visual appeal. If your burger looks like something you could find on the side of the road, you've got problems. But if it looks like something you'd find at a pub or a restaurant, you've got something special.
We at the Brook Pub serve the best Burgers in Cambridge. Our menu includes Southern fried chicken, Classic beef, and Spicy veg burger. Most of our customers love to try spicy food so for them we can make the dish hot. Some of the items in the menu can be customized as per the spice levels. Outdoor Beer Pub Garden | Brook Pub Cambridge | British Pub food
Summer is an appropriate time for Outdoor Beer pub gardens for people to gather with family and friends; we can also increase sales in winter when it comes to outdoor pubs. Most of us love to spend time in the outdoor space, even in the cold weather, as long as they are kept warm and dry. We can have heaters, blankets, and hot water bottles in the garden to make it cozy. It's a good idea to give the customers the experience of both the weather.
Some may opt to cover the garden area with canvas or cannoli in various sizes and shapes. Thinking of constructing a permanent structure would cost a lot than using these flexible and less cost-effective cannolis and canvas. It brings in the joy of enjoying the cold under the temporary roof with heaters on the side to keep them warm. Suppose one is planning to get a permanent structure to be built covering the entire beer garden. In that case, it's always good to leave some space open on the roof, allowing the cool breeze to flow inside during summer then transformed into a cozy winter place with rugs or other materials to close the roof.
Tumblr media
We all love games, especially when organized outdoors like music nights, Karaoke, Poker games, etc. would be great. If you are looking for the best outdoor garden experience, then The Brook Pub in Cambridge is the place to visit. Customers love our services, and they come very often with family and friends. We always get fresh ingredients from the market for preparing the curries and salads. We are also noted for serving Indian dishes like Chicken curry, beef curry, onion bhaji, chicken 65, etc., and various Italian dishes like beef lasagne, mushroom risotto, etc. We are known for our finest Wines, Cask Ales, Beers, Gins, and Whiskies. Some of our customers may not like alcohol, and we do have something for them like cocktails, teas, and coffees. There is always something to drink for everyone here.
The British people are known for their food, fashion, Universities, and culture all through the globe. There are over 60,000 pubs in the U.K where some of which have two bars, one being the Indoor bar and the other Outdoor bar. Today, customers head to the pub to enjoy alcohol and food and relax and spend a good amount of time with family and friends. We at the Brook Pub entertain our guests with Live Sports on T.V placed at the premises. The local customers are regular visitors to the pub as they love to watch their favorite sports on T.V and enjoy their drinks. In addition, it allows them to meet new people and talk about various topics.
As our pub is situated close to the University, we see many students hanging out at our pub with friends enjoying British pub food or evening snacks. A great place to enjoy food and beer after a college break. Our customers are free to give their views on our pub and food, allowing us to make changes for a better environment. Tips on How to Taste Wine
Most of us love Wine as it's an exceptional drink. Many of them enjoy the drink to welcome various occasions like birthdays, marriages, and family events. Still, very few of them like to evaluate the Wine. So, if you want to learn a few tips on evaluating a glass of wine, check it out like an expert.
Before you taste a glass of Wine, first, you need to check out the environment. So let's follow the wine tasting tips below.
Tumblr media
Good Tasting Surrounding:
The first thing to note is the surrounding conditions while Wine tasting leaves you with an impression of the Wine. If the place is crowded with people making noise, you cannot concentrate fully on the taste. Sometimes a perfume smell or some cooking smell can disturb your ability to get an unmistakable taste and sense of a wine's aromas. One more thing that can affect the taste of Wine is when the wine glass is small or wrong in shape, sometimes the smell of dust can also be a reason.
Apart from all these, the temperature of the Wine and the age leave you with an impact. Even if you ate any food or drank anything just before wine tasting, it could affect the taste as it leaves residual flavors. We need to neutralize the tasting conditions to enjoy the Wine giving it a fair chance. We should enjoy Wine at room temperature; if it is served too cold, make it warm by cupping the bowl. If the glass has a stale smell, rinse it with Wine rather than water. Swirl the Wine on all sides of the bowl like conditioning the glass. The more powerful aroma is the perfume, so try to be as far as possible.
Sight evaluation:
Once you have settled down in a fresh air environment, your next step is to examine the wine closely. The Wine must be one-third complete, and now follow the steps to evaluate it with our eyes.
Straight Angle View:
When you have Wine in your glass, the first thing to do is to look into it, then lift the glass and hold it to the light. Next is to tilt the glass allowing the Wine to roll and cover the edges. This way, one can get to see the full-color range of the Wine. The depth of the color explains the density and saturation of the Wine. It helps us to understand the grapes used by just seeing the color and scent. If the saturation levels are more, it leaves a black-purple color, and if lighter, it shows pale brick color.
Side View:
This view tells us how clear the Wine is. The center of the Wine is always dark unless you see through the side of a glass. Sometimes it might look unfiltered or sedimentary, but still, if the Wine looks clear and sparkling, then its a good sign.
Tilted View:
To know more about the weight and age of the Wine, you need to tilt the glass so that the Wine thins out at the rim. If the wine color is pale, then it's not strong, and if the color is brown for white Wine or rusty brick or orange for red Wine, then it's old.
Swirl:
They say that swirling is not for beginners; to swirl the Wine well, you must keep it firmly on a flat surface in freestyle. While swirling the glass, check for tears on the sides of the glass. If you find more tears running down the glass, it says more alcohol is present. These wines are riper and dense than those that are not.
Sniff Evaluation:
Once you viewed your Wine in different side views and swirled, then it's time to give a good sniff. Swirl the Wine well and take short sniffs rather than burying your nose into the glass. The quick short sniffs allow your brain to filter the data about the Wine.
Wine has many fragrances, which are both good and bad. The wine bottle holds many components, and naming all the flowers, fruits, herbs, or scents can be fun. But, let's not waste so much time while enjoying a glass of wine. Just sniff the Wine and look for the aromas that you can guess to understand the Wine's characteristics better.
Wine Flaws:
Nothing in this world is flawless; the only thing is that we need to be more careful without our product. If the wine is corked, it will give a smell of an old attic and leave a taste of a wet newspaper, and cannot fix such flaws. If a wine is bottled with a strong dose of SO2, then the Wine tastes like burnt matches.
Some use of vinegar is acceptable, or it will leave a volatile acidity taste; if you get a nail polish smell, they use ethyl acetate. So we need to learn these flavors to know what fruits and flowers are used. The discovery you make and like is the fundamental way to choose your Wine.
Fruit Aromas:
If you don't get any weird smell from your Wine, look out for fruit aromas. Wine is made from various grapes like white or yellow, or black, to smell fresh fruit and the variety of grapes used unless it is too cold, old, or sweet. It also tells us about the grapes' climate, if it is a cool climate, moderate or warm.
Wine Barrel Aromas:
When Wine is stored in Barrels, it leaves various tastes like Vanilla, Chocolate, espresso, smoke, roasted nuts, and caramel. Wine taste also depends on the way the barrels are made, age, type of oak used, and the way the Wine is mixed in the barrel by the winemaker
Secondary Aromas:
Sometimes you can smell beer in white wines and sparkling wines when they are young due to yeast. Some of the dessert wines have a strong smell of honey due to noble rot trying to balance the taste with other fruits.
Some of the wines have caramel or buttered popcorn smell as the Wine underwent a secondary, malolactic fermentation process that converts malic to lactic acids. It softens the Wine giving it a pleasant aroma. If the Wine is old, the smell becomes complex as one can senselessly fruit smell. However, if the Wine is fully matured, it explodes with exquisite taste, leaving pure pleasure.
Evaluating by Taste:
During tasting time, do not take a mouth full of Wine and try to sip in a little, then spread the Wine evenly in the mouth to understand the taste and texture. As we have already learned how to sniff a wine, one can find the aroma of fruit, flower, herbs, barrel, etc.; we are mostly trying to use our taste buds to know a well-balanced wine, its complexity, and harmony, and its maturity.
Balanced:
What do we mean by a balanced Wine? First, we need to look into the essential components like sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. Two tastes that are common in Wine are sweet and sour. We never come across salt taste in any wines, but bitter taste is seen due to the presence of tannins. Coming to the dry wines, we can find mixed flavors of sweet, sour, and bitter. So we cannot detect anything just by the smell.
All wines do not follow the same method in the making or formula, and they must always balance the flavor. If the Wine is very sweet or sour or too hot or bitter or has no acid, it is not a balanced wine. It should not be a young wine or old, so check for the best Wine properly.
Harmonious:
When all the flavors are integrated well, then it is called Harmonious. In young wines, not all the components are in the right portion, and if they do, it will become a great wine. If one cannot feel the blend, then it's not a good sign. On the other hand, if the proportion of elements is used correctly, it's an excellent wine-making sign.
It tells that the young Wine is coming together with flavors harmoniously.
Complex:
Smelling and tasting Wine is a complex process. As you keep learning, it will become easy for you to recognize the taste. Those new tasting wines recognize the tastes as ripe, intense vanilla and Jam fruit flavors from different barrels of wines. Most of them relate to them as knowing the flavors. Sometimes good wine brands also have such flavors oozing out that might not sound complex.
Coming to complex wines, they seem to dance in your mouth and tend to
change its flavor while tasting. The complexity comes with the age of the Wine, and it tells that it is a good one or not. Nature and Wine are closely related, so we need to enjoy every sip of it with love. Don't just quickly sip in. Let it dance in your mouth before you go for another sip.
Complete:
A complete wine includes many things like balance, complexity, harmonious and evolution. In addition, it has to satisfy the taste buds attracting attention as they have more to offer in terms of training and pleasure. Now that you got some tips try out few wines and maintain a book where you can write your wine tasting journey and adventures. Pin down the tastes of the Wines that you liked and disliked can help you choose the right Wine. So, now you have learnt how to choose Wine on your own. Cheers !!!

Kevin Wright: The Brook gave me and my wife a warm welcome when we visited this pub. It is well organized with the social distance that is required at the moment. The menu was reduced, but what was on offer was very nicely cooked with good portion size.
Guilherme Nogueira: Great food, the pies are amazing and the staff is very nice. Will come back.
Anoop Varghese: Good place to spend and have more parking space. The food available here is very tasty compared to other places and also the kitchen is more hygienic and tidy. All the staffs are very friendly especially the manager.

What is a British Pub Culture
British people do love to enjoy their life to the fullest. They always know the key to a healthier life is to meet new people and socialize. What’s a better way to do it than going to a pub. Pub culture is one of the most intrinsic parts of British culture, especially student life. A pub is a place where we can relax, socialize, and have a drink. This is one thing people must know how to enjoy British pub culture whether or not you drink alcohol.
One should always know the pub rules before visiting so, that your experience would be more fun and enjoyable.
What do pubs serve?
Pubs in the U.K consist of Cask Ales, freshly brewed Beer, Gins, Whiskies, and finest Wine. If you are not a drinker and choose to drive then you can order a soft drink, coffee, teas, or cocktails. If you order for a lager, ale, or bitter make sure to order it half, or else you will land up with a whole pint.
How to order Drinks?
In most of the bars, you need to order your drink at the bar, no one will come to your table to take an order. If you go to a gastropub, a posh pub for a meal, then you can expect to get table service. Pubs are always filled with people all the time especially after work hours and at the weekends. One needs to stand in a queue without pushing and maintaining a safe distance from others standing. One most important thing is to keep your money ready to pay once you get the attention of the bar staff. They will ask “what it be” or “what are you having” and you can give the order. Some of the Pubs can also start a tab if you want wherein you can leave your debit or credit card with them and they will give you a card with a number. Every time you order you need to provide the card number and in the end, they will give you the final bill to be paid.

Do you leave a tip?
People give tips to the bar staff in the pubs. Some of them like to show more gratitude and offer them a drink. The staff member can sometimes accept the drink or they can take the value of the drink in a form of a tip.
Which Pub is the right one for you?
In the U.K one can find many different pubs. They are a hub for their local community to interact with new people. Some pubs are known for their venue where they host a quiz night or certain genre of music. There are certain pubs where people go to enjoy live sports or support a certain team. Some pubs have great offers on their Beer and food. You can also find some pubs representing some nationalities such as “Aussies” (Australians) and “Kiwis”(New Zealanders). A pub is a place where one can strike up a conversation with a total stranger and end up being new friends. You can talk about anything from weather to football scores to politics. Let it be any topic, just have fun socializing with others. Sometimes you may end up getting a drink from someone and always return the gesture back to them.
British people love to say “Cheer’s” out loud by clinking their glasses against everyone else making eye contact with them before they start drinking. This is done to show their love towards friends and they all are here to enjoy time with each other.
Popular snacks at Pubs:
Pubs serve both hot and cold food. The popular food ordered are crisps and nuts. As days changed, now you can choose from the menu items available at the pub. Fish and Chips are always loved by everyone in the pubs. Gastropubs are different they sell restaurant-quality food. A pub is unlike a restaurant, you need to go to the bar to order. Once your order is placed you will be given a table number that you should place on the table so that food will be bought for the table.
Tumblr media
Pubs usually take orders till 10:30 pm or 11:00 pm on Sunday’s. When the time closes by, the bar staff rings the bell to signal the customers that it’s time to place the last orders. They shall ring the bell again indicating that the bar is closing. After the second bell, no one can place any orders.

Enjoy Indian Food with British Touch at The Best Pub in Cambridge, The Brook
Indian food is loved all around the world. We have seen that the British people do love Indian food, especially the curries. British cuisine is usually very bland and not spicy whereas Indian dishes are quite the opposite to them. They are a lot of spices that are used in Indian dishes starting from cumin, cardamom, star anise, bay leaf, red chilies, and peppercorns. North Indian dishes are less spicy as they use less amount of green and red chilies, they add more ghee and curd to their dishes. In Southern India where rice is their staple food, you can see many rice dishes like Biryani prepared using only vegetables or meat or can be made with both. Rice is used to make dosas, idlis, and many more breakfast dishes. East Indian cuisine always uses the mustard paste when cooking most of their dishes. Fish is largely consumed in this part of the Country. Western Indian cuisine is a mix of everything, where you can enjoy all sorts of Indian dishes.
When the British left India they took with them some of the most popular dishes along with them. Now, in England Indian food is something that everyone loves to eat. We all know that Fish & Chips is the national dish of the United Kingdom and now Chicken Tikka masala has been recently added as a national dish of the United Kingdom. More than 200 years ago the first Indian curry shop was opened in London by an Indian migrant. Since 1809, Indian food was known in England, but still, it was not popular until the British rule over the Indian subcontinent that jolted the culinary interest. The forefront of this led to the creation of Anglo-Indian food with traditional Indian essence with a wave of the British touch. By 2013, there were more than 10,000 Indian restaurants in England and Wales.
Tumblr media
Indian food in the United Kingdom needs to follow the exact same recipes. They can be modified or combined with the wish of the diners. You can add chicken or prawns or any meat to the base curry sauces. This way one can create Indian dishes that suit the British palettes.

Traditions and Culture Behind The British Food
Great Britain is made from three different countries, England, Scotland, and Wales. Each country has its own rich culture and traditions. The diverse culture tells us about their culinary traditions. Britain had played a great role in keeping its culture and food. We have Romans who bought in cherries, cabbages, and peas along with the cultivation of crops like corn. The wine was also brought by the Romans.
The Romans were known for building good roads that made it easy for them to transport produce all through the country. Have you ever heard of Saxons, they were excellent farmers who were known for cultivating herbs? Herbs were mostly used while preparing stews. Many of us love to eat smoked and dry fish. It was the Vikings and Danes who brought this technique. In some parts of England especially the North-East coasts, we can see people still eating slices of meat as a tradition which is served on Burn’s night which falls on 25th January in Scotland. British food is always loved worldwide and British housewives would always like to prepare their favorite food with York ham. Many of us are nor aware that York ham was first smoked using sawdust of the oak trees.
Tumblr media
British traditional food is full breakfast, Fish and Chips, the Sunday Roast, Steak, and Kidney Pie, Shepherds Pie, Bangers, and Mash. Due to diverse cultures, Britain has focused on a wide variety of foods from different cuisines of Europe, India, and other parts of the world. Several regional dishes are associated with British cuisine as it’s within the border with English, Scottish and Welsh cuisine and Northern Irish cuisines. Each place has come up with its regional dishes like fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding, Cumberland sausage, Arbroath Smokie, and Welsh Cakes.
Tumblr media
In the 20th Century, we have seen a huge change in the food recipes as the British people had the availability of fresh products. They were willing to add other cultural recipes and also include other cultural foods from Italy and India. British food once used to be less spicy or no spice at all. As time changed they tried to use different herbs and spices to create spiced British food in this medieval area. The modern era is highly getting influenced by the Mediterranean, Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asian cuisines. We could see a subsequent fading of northern and central European cuisines.
Here in British culture, Christmas dinner is special. Turkey and Christmas pudding is more popular from the 16th century. Apart from roast turkey we also have roast beef or ham to which stuffed, gravy, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, and vegetables are served.  Christmas pudding-like Yule Log, Mince Pies, Cakes, etc. are popular with deserts.
Tumblr media
Food Varieties Place Wise:
Anglo Indian Cuisine: It is a traditional British food like roast beef with a little touch of Indian spices such as cloves and red chilies. Fish and meat are cooked with vegetables like an Indian curry. In Anglo-Indian food, we often see the use of yogurt, coconut, and almonds. We have different flavors for roasts, curries, rice dishes, and bread.
English Cuisine: English food is associated with England. British food has distinct flavors by adding ingredients from North America, China, and India.
Northern Irish Cuisine: It’s similar to the Islands of Ireland. The Ulster Fry is a popular dish here.
Scottish Cuisine: Its traditions are uprooted from Scotland. Traditional Scottish dishes are haggis and Scotland is known for producing high-quality beef, lamb, potatoes, oats, and seafood.
Welsh Cuisine: It’s highly influenced by British cuisine. Beef and Dairy cattle are widely seen here. Meat is very closely associated with Welsh cooking.
At the Brook Pub in Cambridge, we try to keep in the essence of British food with a touch of Indian, Mediterranean, and Italian cuisines. Do come in to enjoy our food along with our Cask Ales, Wines, Spirits, Coffee, and Teas. Our menu servers the best traditional British pub food, Indian food, and Italian food. Traditional British Pubs in Cambridge | Traditional British Bars in Cambridge | British Pub food in Cambridge
Traditional British Pubs play the main part in each community in the UK. Public houses are the shortened name for a Pub where people above the age of 18 gather for drinking. As the years are passing, we could see a decline in British Pubs from all sides. In the 18th Century, the British Pubs were “The Heart Of England”.
The British Bars were first opened to quince the thirst if fishermen who came back home after their 3-day long, sea trip in Icelandic waters. Once they came to the shore and sold their fish they had money in their pockets. Pub’s that were present at every corner street helped them to spend their money on Beers and Ales.
Tumblr media
Today the time has changed rigorously through the years and the Pub culture has seen a downfall. They might be other reasons for it, like excess drinking could cause a fight and damage to the bar or getting drunk and creating violence on the streets and also due to the ban on Public smoking since 2007. All these have a negative impact on British Pubs and Bars. People have got their own ways to attract their customers. Now, they started to serve British Pub food like in restaurants and it helped them to attract customers a little bit.
