I know this trope is overplayed, but I’m obsessed with every occurrence of Joyce deciding nothing’s going to get done unless she does it her goddamn self and yelling at men twice her size while Hopper stands behind her like

What happened to the Byers' dog? Did it die? Did it run away? Is it in the upside down? I need answers! I don't get any sleep tonight unless I find out what happened to that dog

One of the lessons learned from Stranger Things that I feel is underappreciated is that it shows us that in the tough situations they get into, brains are just as important as brawn. And not just any one type of intelligence either
Every character has some skill set that comes in handy during their adventures/investigations. Elevens telekinesis, Hopper’s capability with guns and fighting, Nancy’s talent with firearms, Steve’s bat weilding ability, etc. But what ties it all together is how smart the characters are, and how that helps them to figure things out
In season one, barb had gone missing, and Nancy was obviously distraught. Nancy is someone who wants to know the truth, who wants to figure stuff out. And that’s what she did. She knew that Jonathan might’ve gotten a picture of the thing that took her, so Nancy went to Jonathan, teaming up to go after it. Even after that experience with the Demogorgon in the Upside down, she still was able to think clearly and figure out how best to attract and defeat a Demogorgon. And look how that came in handy; her, Jonathan, and Steve fighting the Demogorgon helped draw it away from Joyce and Hopper. And it was more than just Nancy’s smarts that came in handy in the season. The boys’ natural scientific curiosity, calling their science teacher at 10pm to find out how to make a sensory deprivation tank, and being in AV club helped eleven to access a radio.
Flash forward to season 2, we met one of the best characters the show had to offer. Bob « the brain » Newby. And god did that brain of his come in handy. He was able to figure out what Will’s map was showing, where it all was in Hawkins. Beyond that, in the lab, he was the only one with computer programming experience. Hop might’ve been exasperated with him trying to explain it, but bob was right. He was the one to get everyone out of the lab because he knew how to reboot the system and unlock the doors. He saved everyone. God I wish he was still alive
Now, on season 3. We met another new, hella smart character. Robin. Robin was the one to help figure out the translation as well as crack the code. Even Steve noticing that the music was the same as the indiana flyer was a big help in figuring out the mystery. And they brought back Murray too, where his translating was the key to getting into the Russian base and destroying the machine and shutting the gate. Later, when Murray didn’t remember Planck’s constant, Dustin radioing the hella smart Susie got them the password to those keys. Even Lucas’s hunch with the fireworks helped to save eleven by delaying the mind flayer.
Brawn defeat the monsters, no doubt. Eleven closing the gate, fighting both Demogorgon and mind flayer, saving their asses countless times. Hopper fighting knockoff Arnold Schwarzenegger, shooting demodogs, just generally being very powerful. But what got them to the point where they could do that was brains. It was Nancy being Nancy Drew, the boys’ inclination to science helping them understand what was going on, robin cracking codes, and Bob rebooting the computer system and saving everyone. It’s a very good message to send, giving us a host of characters who use brains in addition to the brawn of other characters to take down the monsters and bad men and be the heroes
