Often, it IS autism. Often, it IS because of autism.

But a lot of those symptoms/behaviours tend to be labelled as "bad autism" or "scary autism". Due to that, it becomes a taboo topic to talk about in public spaces, in online spaces.

There has been a lot of backlash in online autism spaces when these very common and real behaviours of autism are talked about, and it needs to stop.

Just because you don't relate to it, or don't want to be associated to these behaviours doesn't mean it's not real for autistics to experience due to their autism.

It is so important for the "bad" symptoms, the "scary" symptoms to be talked about in autistic spaces. People need to be educated about the whole spectrum and how it presents, not just the "quirky" side of autism.

When you refuse to acknowledge these as autism things, you are actively hurting a part of the community that needs the most understanding and support.

I reopened Tumblr dot com for the first time in months because I need to scream something into the void.

I don't think 12 and Clara had a romantic relationship. They also didn't have a platonic relationship. Their bond cannot be encapsulated by any combination of words in the English language. The best approximation I can think of is addiction.

Their relationship was the one between an addict and a needle. The needle beckons incessantly, promising adventure and intrigue and an escape from monotony. The needle can take away the pains of the world, if only for a moment. In return, the addict offers unending devotion. The addict will go to any ends if their needle is taken away. To the addict, everything is secondary to the needle.

But the needle is false. Its promises are empty, and the pleasures it brings are hollow. The needle is selfish. The needle will kill the addict. This is inevitable so long as the addict remains devoted.

The great tragedy of their dynamic is that they are each both needle and addict to the other. Clara is addicted to the thrill of adventure. 12 is addicted to seeing himself through Clara's eyes. They push each other past the limit, and they both break.

They're not in love, they're not friends, they're not father-daughter. They're addicted.
