You don't actually write creative enough

Read your work again. You see: does, goes, places, etc. Red, blue, ugly, smelly. Authors often take shortcuts when writing and while it gets the job done, it doesn't give the power that it should. Sometimes, the word count is sacrificed for the greater good.

He ran to get her He lunged to steal her, or He charged to catch her

Once you have that, maybe you're still not writing creative. You can use synonyms, it's the easiest path to do. Yet, you can rephrase for a more unique sentence. Walk =/ strut. Do =/ act.

It smelled of decaying bodies Your smell soured of death's traces, or The air soured of death's traces

Describing things doesn't need to be flat either. It's a struggle to describe certain things—hair, eyes, height, posture, rooms, walls, etc.

The room was extremely red The room drowns her with fever-inducing red, or Every surface imaginable bleeds my eyes with red

This can easily become an overbearing way to attempt to reach the word count. However, it does help in situations where the writing has been too flat for too long and the narrator needs to show that this thing holds significance.

Sabe qual a coisa mais interessante de reescrever uma coisa que eu escrevi uns 2-3 anos atrás? Ver como eu mudei o meu ponto de vista sobre algumas coisas e como eu posso melhorar outras. Sla, sempre acho doido como as coisas mudam com o tempo, e ver isso refletido em coisas pequenas como a minha escrita me deixam tão felizinha :)

Hello hello, xuxus! Como vão vcs nessa belíssima noite de sexta? Hj, vou começar uma coisinha nova aqui: as atualizações da semana! Sla, achei uma boa ideia pra interagir :)

Ent vamos lá: • Essa semana, postei meu livrinho de análises de escrita, o Meadowlark! (linkzinho aqui: https://www.wattpad.com/story/393606186-meadowlark-writing-rants) Ainda não publiquei nenhuma análise, mas já deixa salvo pra quando sair ;) • Já comecei a escrever a primeira análise a ser publicada! Ela vai provavelmente ser dividida em mais de uma parte porque já tá ficando gigante o texto e nem cheguei na metade do conteúdo. Então, planejo dividir ele em duas partes e, se der tudo certo, a primeira parte sai dia 19/05. (obs: as análises vão sair por aqui tb! Mas se quiser ver com antecedência, vejam no watt!) • Minha fic de doctor who tá na fase de escaleta já, tô na terceira parte do terceiro episódio da temporada em que ela se passa e eu tô muito feliz com o resultado até agora :) Mal posso esperar pra ela voltar ao mundo! Ainda não comecei a ver a temporada nova, mas tô tão doida pra ver tudo e oq eu posso analisar 👀

I love the idea that the 15th Doctor is one of the incarnations totally willing to manipulate his friends and companions, but he does it THROUGH laughs and smiles and charm, so much so that he barely even registers that that’s what he’s doing. Upbeat darkness.

Of course, “silly Doctor hiding a manipulative streak” is hardly new, but there’s a specific difference between, say, 7 using silliness to trick enemies but manipulating Ace more overtly, and 15 trying to manipulate Belinda, his potential new companion, USING his charm. It’s a (relatively) new angle on the Doctor’s manipulative behavior. I’m not gonna say it’s NEVER been done before (thousands of stories across several mediums over 60 years, I’m sure it’s cropped up), but this is the most overt example of the Doc using this specific manipulation tactic to my mind.

Belinda, having been the victim of a (clumsy) attempt at manipulation by Alan in the past, recognizes it right away and calls the Doc out, and he still doesn’t let the smile drop until he recognizes he isn’t gonna charm his way out of the situation.

And he KNOWS she’s right. But it almost makes him mad that she recognizes it too. You can see it on his face. He wants to argue back. But he knows she’s right, so he doesn’t.
