A first time blogger who finds peace and virtue in the chemistry world. Currently an undergrad, but doing my own research. Pursuing a field in quantum, analytical, or even bioanalytical.... Really any field except orgo. Let's see how this blog goes!

Been working on the schlenk line lately learning how to conduct experiments that are water and air sensitive. Learning so much here. Couldn't have asked to be at a better school!

Some days I just like to turn on the stirrer on full blast and pretend I'm a water bender. Haha... It's been a long day. Biochem final is complete, and research presentation tomorrow. Less than a week left!!

Nearing the end of the semester, and the poster session went beautifully. Presented our research and got lots of accolades, even though our hypothesis was not supported whatsoever. But hey, it’s done!

I sure love it when you get to the end of the experiment and finally prove to yourself that you have something different than starting material! Orange=starting material and then going right stepwise is product formation.

A pretty dang ugly tlc plate. It's like I forgot everything I learned in Ochem... At least I can still assume that all three runs contain the same compound. Which was the whole point of this run. Two different synthesis routes compared to a literature synthesis. Calling it a day

Sorry for being gone for a few days. Been busy working on this bad boy. Mutations of alkaline phosphatase. This is just a Jmol rendering to show the active site residues. Running kinetics on my mutant tomorrow, so wish me luck! It’s been a long semester getting to this point, so I have high hopes.

It's always a good day when we get a new instrument in the lab! More posts to come regarding this beaut.

This is so beautifully true haha
Lol before my Chemistry classes begun one of my profs hold a speech to the freshmen saying "you all need to be aware that Chemistry is a dangerous field, If you make dad mistakes here and dont pay attention you can get blind, badly disfigured or you could actually die. The worst thing that can happen to you when you fail at history is that you become a national socialist or a communist."
Honestly I’d prefer to go blind haha

Doesn't look like much, but finally got a precipitate to form after many many problems with the synthesis route I chose.

Hello all, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm currently an undergrad studying chemistry. And looking to use this blog as a way to interact with other chemists and the general populace to show how beautiful the world of chemistry can be. So I figured the best place to start is with our lab mascot hoisting the colors of any true chemist!
