imagine queen susan smirking at a man who begins to lose touch with his arrogance and fumbles over his words. she just caught him off guard with her interrogation, masked off as a few innocent questions that build on each other and poke holes into his horrendous plans.
he was advocating for a labor policy that would set a precedent for endangering young children and it was clear he knew. in fact, it seemed it was for that reason he wanted it there; to take advantage of the youthful power and abuse it for his own profits. and though he says nothing explicitly, his true intentions couldn't be ever more clear. if it weren't for her image and reputation, susan would have shown him then and there that even the gentle can be merciless.
but alas, grace and precision was required for a matter like this.
"like archery," susan thinks spontaneously, except she reminds herself that she must spare her arrows for a worthier target. instead, she resorted to knocking down his house of cards in the way she knew best: logic.
her words were arrows of their own, frankly, and they shot down each and every single point he tried to make. slowly, the conversation among the other debaters dies down. there is nothing to discuss; not when the queen has asked the necessary questions which need answering.
she clasps her hands together, rests her chin on top of them, and leans close.
"well?" she asks with faux interest, "what say you?"
the man remains silent.
edmund leans against the pillar outside of the room, smiling with his arms crossed, eyes closed, and head tilted down. his big sister has always been a source of admiration, but her rationality in these kinds of situations always remained near and dear to his heart; in his eyes, her tendency towards reasoning and logic acted as a force field protecting their family and their people of narnia.
his eyes flutter open to the sound of clicking heels. peter's back.
"aslan's mane, if i had known i would be this late, i would have postponed the meeting altogether. how's she holding up?" the older brother asks. edmund laughs.
"handling it far better than either of us could, dear brother."

Absolutely Obsessed With Narnia's Font
Tumblr media
I haven't seen any posts on this yet so feel free to direct me if there are, but in the meantime, do you all see the little images in the letters of 'Narnia'?
There's a sword in the letter N, indicated by the crossguard that cuts in the middle of the slant.
In the letter A, if you tilt your head to the side, you can make out a bow and its string being pulled.
The letter R sports a lion's tail.
The letter I is a lamp post.

i know it happened for entirely different reasons but if you think about it jadis and susan both lost their kingdom and siblings... the only difference is that jadis readily took it upon herself to make it happen while for susan it never really felt like a choice.
susan reluctantly goes with her siblings to follow deeper into the woods when they're hunting the white stag, she reluctantly leaves narnia once, twice, but it's a lot to ask from someone so young as her to reconcile with the "choices" she made, which in turn severed her from her kingdom first and her siblings second (to the point of no return).

for their service, narnia blesses the pevensies with hidden powers to carry back to earth.
Tumblr media
peter used to hate prophecies. it's what dragged him and his siblings into a war his parents wanted him to avoid. but when the feeling of deja vu turns into experiencing brief visions that predict the following events here on earth, he can't really mind. the only strange part is that his ability is exclusive to events revolving around his siblings. he gives susan extra cash in her purse to take a taxi because she'll miss the bus, drives to lucy's school to drop off the homework she forgot in her room, tosses edmund an umbrella that the boy insists he won't need, except he does.
when his parents ask about it, noticing how their eldest son manages to be prepared for nearly everything, peter replies with 'gut instinct'. his siblings know better. they leave his knack for prophecy unmentioned in their conversations, since the memory of leaving home is still fresh, but edmund, susan, and lucy are aware of how much this ability means to him. he has always been trying to look out for them and protect them. in this way, thanks to narnia, he can.
Tumblr media
there is a newfound power in susan's voice that wasn't there before. aside from her siblings, people listen to her intently, much to her curiosity. from the strict professor who provides her an extension despite not having an extension policy to the boy who backs off when she tells him no, susan finds that her words fall easily on their ears and they receive it graciously. she doesn't know how to feel about it. she's grateful, of course, but such a power can be dangerous if exploited. she shudders. she would rather perish than be caught abusing her voice and power, as strange as that sounds in her time.
luckily, as aforementioned, her siblings are immune to her ability to charmspeak, and they gently encourage her to use her gift to become the harbinger of change she was always meant to be. the sociology major is now somewhat easier to endure, what with her peers and professors starting to be receptive to the fresh, new ideas she introduces, ideas that worked in narnia and would work even better here. she considers edmund's suggestion to become a public speaker.
Tumblr media
after having fallen to temptation with the white witch's enchanted turkish delight, edmund can ingest any poison without experiencing its effects. he learns about this ability when he confronts a man for spiking a woman's drink. the man insists he didn't, so to challenge him, edmund spontaneously grabs the glass from the lady's hand and tips it up. he meant to feign the drinking; however, when the man shouts in alarm and attempts to slap the glass away, the liquid ends up sliding roughly against his throat. judging from that reaction alone, edmund knocks him out cold and calls the police.
it's an awkward ride with the paramedics. aside from the very brief choking for a drink he didn't mean to down, the lack of reaction baffles all of them; nonetheless, his idea to accept medical attention wasn't entirely unfounded as they did detect the toxin in his body. the doctor tells him he's lucky to even be alive. edmund smiles. nothing he hasn't heard before.
Tumblr media
lucy's kisses are healing, as if laced with the juice from the cordial she carried in narnia. her mother always planted small pecks on her injuries when she was a child and the practice carries over to her for her siblings. when peter runs into the wrong sort of folk in the alleyway, she doesn't hesitate to kiss the cuts and bruises on his knuckles over their bandages. they heal within two hours. this ability remains largely undiscovered until one of peter's friends ask him how he always manages to heal so quickly. peter is quick to trace it back to lucy.
the youngest pevensie is delighted to learn that a part of narnia came back with her and it takes a great deal of convincing to prevent her from running to injured children and kissing them. narnians would welcome such affection, but humans of this world aren't so nearly understanding. so lucy comes up with what she believes is a good solution. she becomes a babysitter for a bit, then a daycare worker. giving kids kisses shouldn't be too much of an issue now, right?

"do not cite the deep magic to me, i was there when it was written" aslan vs the white witch who continued to do just that will never not be the funniest thing to me because had i been in aslan's place i would have had no mercy and just finished her off right there. you can't ask me to follow the deep magic if you yourself can't follow basic instructions

the silver chair except eustace's dragon curse never truly left.
it remains dormant on earth of course, for there is no need of dragons there and it certainly is no place for them, but when eustace is put in situations of high, high risk in narnia, it can't help but come out instinctively.
the poor boy doesn't figure this out until it happens.
eustace never had a particular desire to die, but he gave himself no choice in the split second moment he takes to dive in front of prince rilian. for an old friend such as caspian, he would give his life to him and his family as many times as they'd need, even if he only had one to spare. a proper act of sacrifice, he reasons to himself, much nobler in comparison to what he did last time he was in narnia. lucy and edmund would be very proud, wouldn't they?
jill covers her eyes and screams.
but what should have been human skin caught on the witch's serpent fangs turns brittle and cold, like the hardened scales of a dragon's hide. the sorceress flies backwards and releases a piercing screech.
prince rilian shakes jill, begs her to open her eyes. she shakes her head. she can't, she won't. eustace is dead. eustace is dead!
an unfamiliar roar reverberates throughout the dark castle. oh no. jill finally peeks through her fingers, a new bout of fright expelling her grief. what now? hasn't she suffered enough? but her hands fall quickly to her side and she stumbles back, looking, up, up, up.
standing between her, rilian, and the serpent, stood a gallant dragon, one that towered over the two humans and blew fire into the air.
"eustace?" jill whispers.
eustace stares down the lady of the green kirtle in the eyes and grins. why, this evens out the playing field, doesn't it? his snout flares and he roars once more.
you will pay for what you've done, witch.
oh, if only reepicheep were here to see him now.

Headcanon: Edmund hated saying the words “good-bye.” He felt they were too final, and shouldn’t be used unless the departing was final. In the Last Battle, when they saw the train coming around the bend, Edmund turned to Peter, smiled, and whispered “Goodbye, Pete.” In that split moment before the train hit, Peter knew the coming end.
