Running through the Lost Mines of Phandelver with a bunch of new players

The party had just gotten to the first bugbear encounter, Klaarg. Klaarg has a very loyal wolf with him and is currently under the Sleep spell

Wizard: I cast Minor Illusion to make myself sound like Klaarg.

DM: Alright, and what’re you gonna say?

Wizard: “Hey, um wolf, it’d be really, uh, really great if you could just. Um. Kill me. Kill me, right now. Please.”

I make the wolf role a wisdom save, which it fails miserably, and after a few more rounds of combat and one unconscious fighter, the wolf actually did land the killing blow, which caused everyone at the table to lose their goddam minds.

Ghost: My character is a ghost monk named Or, can I read what I put in my background information?

DM: Yeah, go for it.

Hey guys! Life’s been really hard lately, that’s why I haven’t really been on Tumblr as of late. Moving to Florida has been one big hill after another. Currently I’m on medical leave from work because a 30 pound box fell on my head and neck. My roommate and friend Jeremy has been helping take care of me and if you guys would help me repay him it would mean the world to me!

Kerrek, who gave the whole speech about ‘sometimes people don’t come back’, who mentioned that he’d lost friends, has never seen a resurrection succeed. So how many has he seen fail?

Entry 3

Well, today did not go as expected and honestly. I have mixed feelings about it.

Things started pretty normal, I found out we were tied for first place in the King Makers Meet with the Corbeau team, and that there was a tie breaker to get the final vote. We had to get some sort of gem thing for this important lady, and which ever team got the gem for her first won. So holy shit did we haul ass to this gem, we sadly were slightly slower than the Corbaeu group, but this turned out to be a good thing because they killed everything for us on our way there. After running for a few hours we arrived at our destination, which was a cave. Jimmy and I scoped out ahead of the group and we saw the opposing group, they were battling this giant frog like creature thing, instinct kicked in and we attacked the frog.

A few seconds later and a few swings and we killed the toad thing, not before he let out a deafening blast that rendered me, we deaf. It was a scary couple of seconds not being able to hear, but then a small magical woman from the Corbeau group, I think her name was Celia but I’m not too sure, came up to me and touched my ears, I had no idea what was happening but suddenly I could hear again. I thanked her and looked around to catch my bearings, I looked up just in time to see Welby shove what looked to be the gem into their robot ARC. 

Now, in my mind, I thought “Oh well that’s it, they’ve won. Good job everyone.�� And I was fine with that, our friend Jimmy however was not. He went up and stabbed Welby right in the gut, initially I was shocked, “That didn’t just happen, did it?” And I backed up, this was not my fight, they won fair and square. Then Welby fucking attacked me! But, you know what, he didn’t know what I was going to do, so I let it slide and I backed away and told everyone that this wasn’t my fight. 

Then ... things got personal, they attacked Lilith ... and I’ll be damned if I stand by and watch that happen. So I did what I do best, and I attacked. I didn’t feel good doing it, over these last few weeks, they people have become my friends, and here I am fighting them, to what could not end well. Suddenly the mood in the room changed, a Corbeau member actually died, to the point of no return, Welby. Its foggy to me on how it actually happened, but I knew we’d get shit for it. Celia let out a mighty scream half way through and ran away from her group and the fight, she clearly was not cut out for this type of fight, and I felt bad. After a while she came back and told us to stop, we clearly had won the fight at that point and there was no reason going forward. At that point we had already rendered ARC and Malen unconscious, Stahlmut wasn’t too far off from joining them, and of course Welby was dead. After the fight I glanced over at Lilith to make sure she was okay, she looked a little rough, but she was alive and okay, and that was all that mattered to me. Shortly after Celia woke ARC up and had him go with us to return the gem, we left her and Anwen behind to heal everyone while we ran back to the Meet. 

Once we got back to Terek, Anwen had caught up with us and pulled Jimmy aside for a second. I do not know what was said, but I could tell that she was not happy. Jimmy gave the gem to the lady and we had won, Neverember was to be named King, and a ceremony was to be held. 

Later that night was the ceremony and as we entered the ceremony, all eyes were on us. Judgmental, unhappy eyes. I could tell Anwen was not feeling okay, so I pulled her in close as we walked to our designated table. After we got to our table, Anwen and I drank and drank and drank and drank. We were not happy with what we had done, and we wanted to forget it. The other groups one by one came by to pay their respects to us, all upset with our actions, and I couldn’t blame them. We had done something horrible and everyone knew about it. 

At the end of the day, I was not happy with what I did, but if I could start the day over and do everything again, I only would have done one thing differently, I would have attacked first, If would’ve known that they were going to attack Lilith before she even acted, I would’ve attacked. I am filled with regret and sorrow, but I wouldn’t have done anything, but that, differently.

After the ceremony I did nothing but drink more and go to bed. I’ve had a lot of lows in my life, but I feel this may have been one of the lowest. I know this will come back to haunt us, but when that moment comes. I won’t hold back, not for me or Jimmy or Anwen, but for Lilith. I need to protect her, she is my source of happiness, and I will not let anything bad happen to her.
