TOP RANK Magazine and FiveMyles are pleased to present In Private Moments, an exhibition featuring the photography of Nakeya Brown. Brown’s whimsically colored, minimally composed still-lives examine the visualization of black womanhood by engaging with the fraught cultural politics of hair. With a conceptual focus on the objects and rituals of hair maintenance, Brown’s portraits present the duality of emotions associated with black hair aesthetics - happiness and pain; beauty and sacrifice; collectivity and alienation - to render visible the deeply intimate process of self-representation. Brown’s photography is featured in the inaugural issue of TOP RANK Magazine. ABOUT NAKEYA BROWN: Nakeya Brown was born in Santa Maria, California in 1988. She received her BA in Visual Arts and Journalism & Media Studies from Rutgers University. Her work has been exhibited at the McKenna Museum of African American Art, Woman Made Gallery, Vivid Solutions Gallery, and Mason Gross Gallery. Brown’s work has been reviewed by The Washington City Paper, African & Afro-Diasporan Art Talks, ForHarriet, and has been published by international publications Hysteria and Tonelit. She is a recipient of the Hortense May Boutell, Richard T. Evans, and Winifred Todd Farah endowments. She is currently pursuing her M.F.A at The George Washington University. Nakeya lives in Washington, D.C with her 2-year-old daughter, Mia. www.nakeyab.com @nakeyab ABOUT TOP RANK: Top Rank Magazine is a Brooklyn-based publication that profiles women of diverse backgrounds who are driving, shaping, and challenging the world around them. EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Yeezy Season 1 Lookbook Leaks
Kanye West “Yeezy Season 1” Lookbook has leaked via electronic mail from an intrepid reader named Logan containing the lookbook for Kanye West x Adidas West Yeezy Season 1 shot byJackie Nickerson. You may have seen the god JJJJound post up a couple pics up on his Instagram, but this is the most complete look yet. Apparently, the lookbook was given out at Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris where Kanye is just finishing up a four date concert series. While these snaps of snaps are low-res for sure and it’s not quite the full spread—there are a some shots missing, of Kanye included—you canget the overall sense of things. Still, it’s a hefty amount of shots and NSFW nudity. You can see a few of the signature pieces, including footwear, closer and a lot of the details (read: random holes) that you’re gonna end up paying racks on racks on racks for. Even if the prices are out of your budget, which they are for most everyone, the gear looks pretty damn good when styled all-together, especially if you’re into the whole dystopian, Matrix look.
