Captain Laurence of the Reliant ship soon becomes the captain of a dragon, whose egg was captured from a French ship. Taking place during the Napoleonic War, Laurence joins the aviators of Britain to fly his dragon- Temeraire.

The Napoleonic War, but add dragons. Naomi Novik is brilliant and writes brilliantly, as well. I love her take on dragons and how they are sentient creatures who talk and act and think like people. This book flows so nicely and there was never a dull moment. I ate it up this third time around (I had attempted to read it twice before but got distracted) and I can’t wait to read the second book- The Throne of Jade.
