I am asking for donations for a  Bee Preservation Program I am working on. With spring quickly approaching I am planning on opening up a private apiary in Western, NY and asking for donations to help save the bees. Over the past several years the bee population has been on a steady decline due to colony collapse, disease and, environmental issues. Recently it has been discovered that most bee colonies are dying off because the bees are coming in contact with pesticide and insecticide sprays. It is my hope that by starting an apiary it can help improve the overall population of the bees while increasing pollination rates and helping the survival of other wildlife species as well. Unfortunately the start up costs of beekeeping are much higher than expected. The cost of one hive is approximately 330 dollars.  Although the cost is much higher than expected I have decided to continue on with the project and, ask for donations because the end results will be well worth it.  Your donation will be used to help purchase bees and  bee supplies for the bees such as wood for hives, frames and bases.  Over 70% of our global crops are pollinated by bees and 90% of the flowering plant species are dependent on bees. I have access to 27 acres of land that was previously used for farming and I would like to plant a flower field/pollen field for the bees on the land. Typically bees will travel no more than 5 miles to collect pollen and water. The available location will allow the bees to have access to water on the property from a small creek and, I am hoping to provide enough pollen so bees will not have to travel far distances and come in contact with pesticides and insecticides. With your contribution I am hopeful that we together can help protect the bees and increase the bee population. 1500 will cover the cost of 4 hives and leave a little left over for planting the pollen field.
