Sort of want a modern au story where Uther is absolutely fine with Arthur being gay.

But he just can't stand Merlin Emrys.

It's a bit of a problem, because in the beginning, Uther had been really fond of the man with the aspirations (and obvious potential) to become a doctor since he was 9. Which was the entire reason he encouraged his only son to befriend the kid in elementary school.

But with age, Merlin became incredibly confident while Arthur remained quiet and awestruck at his friend. (And obviously heartsick)

Merlin encouraged Arthur to expand his horizons, which would be good, if Arthur's aspirations weren't strangely focused on hair dressing and owning a farm.

So, when Arthur kept inviting the oblivious man (now doctor) to dinner, Uther was stuck listening to stories about sick and twisted diseases while watching his son fawn over the boy with the red scarf and lacking manners. Uther needed to find a way to get rid of him...

He ends up getting them together.

Maybe it is.

“Seems like we make a fantastic pair then,” Arthur says, and gods, he can’t remember the last time he has been so wildly, painfully happy.

Merlin hums, and then Arthur stops thinking altogether because Merlin tugs him close again, slotting their lips back together. His fingers slide into Arthur’s hair, and the fire spills its last remains of warmth across them.

For the first time in a long time, Arthur is truly at home.
