Hiatus

I made a similar post on manymanyservices recently- I’m putting this blog in an indefinite hiatus, just because I can’t deal with rping at the moment. I have a lot going on in my life right now, and I need to concentrate. I don’t know when I’ll be back, but I will be. Thank you to those who interact and rp with me, and I hope to continue to do so on my return!

Loghain kept his own in the fight, ignoring the increasing pain as he continued to hack and slash with his sword, pushing genlocks back with hie shield until he’d taken down the biggest threats.

When he was finally done there was sweat pouring down his forehead, and he laughed. The laughing ended quickly when his leg gave out under him.

Tavi hated this.  Hated the quiet, the rain, the sheer… not knowing.  He had no idea where to go from here.  He wasn’t even finding anything.

He turned after walking a ways, nothing looking a bit out of the ordinary except for the utter lack of any movement.  Then he heard it.  Noise.  Battle.  His ears perked.

“I’ll do my best,” he said, chuckling. He turned his back to Tavi, keeping an eye on the terrain. When Tavi was out of hearing range he began an even better watch, sword drawn. The silence was oppressive. He began feeling something at the back of his mind...there were darkspawn approaching. A lot of them. Enough to handle on his own? Perhaps.

Well, he would find out.

“If only.  I can handle birds.”  He smiled faintly.  “Hope to see you in one piece when I turn around then.  Try not to let the birds peck you to death, okay?”  He started forward, speed picking up as much as it could with the mud sucking at his boots, holding him back.

“That sounds like a good idea,” said Loghain, drawing his sword. “I’ll keep an eye out back here for anything...maybe those missing birds are grouping together for an attack, eh?” He was making a joke...hopefully it came across.

“Nothing.  I don’t hear anything besides you.  And mud.  And rain.”  He frowned.  “Something’s wrong which is still weird.  Could have somethin’ to do with a rift I guess.  Would make sense.”  He gave a little huff.  “I could scout ahead, see if I spot anything demony.”

He grunted, rubbing his cheek sheepishly. “Maybe we should look into a cat then,” he said. “I can scrounge up the money for the deposit from somewhere, I think.” He’d take a few extra shifts if he had to- Anders loved cats, and it would probably cheer him up.

“Of all things,” grunted Loghain, pulling himself out of his chair and stomping to the shower, where he bent over and pulled a cup from the side of the tub, trapping the spider and bringing it outside. “Are you happy now?”

Oh my god? I wasn’t telling someone they couldn’t call themselves trans or cis? I’m sorry if it came off that way but its the fact that it’s one word not two like “transwoman” is implying that the women is inherently othered from a woman, while “trans woman” does not. The difference is between connecting the trans and woman, not the term trans. You completely misunderstood me and you need to get off the attack when I was trying to be perfectly polite on a subject that I am not usually at all polite about. 

Cis and trans are literally the correct terms...I’m looking at my reply to see if I worded something wrong and I really don’t think I did, so you obviously either didn’t fully read or understand my reply.

I found the OP’s original post pretty self important, telling everyone that they respected and wanted to see more nonbinary characters- but their muse might misgender them. People’s comfort comes before character choices, and it sounded like an excuse to have your character misgender when you can’t. I don’t think that was the OP’s intent at all, and I think they were genuinely trying to do a good thing. 

But most people aren’t comfortable being misgendered and sometimes that translates to their characters- you may feel differently and that’s your right- you personally might feel comfortable with your character being misgendered, but OP didn’t say they’d take into consideration what their blog said, if they’d ask the mun first...a lot of people want to escape from their lives, not have to deal with more of the same.

Also, you trying to say assigned gender at birth is always obvious? I’ve literally been called by titles reserved for both genders in the past year? My gender is genuinely up in the air for many when I meet them. Like yeah, most characters, probably, but androgynous and intersex people do exist, even in a fantasy setting. Especially in a fantasy setting.

Basically you’re saying that the fantasy setting of Dragon Age and the cultural expectations in it make it so unreasonable to not be misgendered that its unrealistic, and I think that’s unfair to rpers of nonbinary characters.  All it would take is a “do not misgender my character” on a mun’s sidebar. That’s all it should take. 

I understand the difference between a character choice and a personal belief- misgendering is a very touchy subject, and you would need to talk to the mun about that beforehand before letting your character misgender them. I’m not trying to imply you don’t know the difference and that you would personally misgender someone, but it is a big deal for some, and people use tumblr to escape their ooc lives- misgendering can bring that back.

 Also you didn’t address what I was trying to say- that you might not be able to perceive them as either gender, and that you’re assuming the character in question would present as male or female.

I’m not hurt of uncomfortable, I just wanted to express my opinion on this subject because I don’t want to see anyone hurt. Also, minor but important- you’re a cis woman. Transwoman and ciswoman imply that being trans or cis is directly attached to being a woman, and when someone calls a trans woman a ‘transwoman’ they are othering them from ‘normal woman.’

Like I can’t guarantee my muse wouldn’t misgender them based upon their perceptions or preconceived notions/IC biases, but I as the mun am 1000% here for more nonbinary representation and exploring the experiences of nonbinary individuals through fiction. 

Bless the existence of nonbinary MUSES and bless the MUNS who write them.

I agree with your post of course, but please consider that nonbinary people such as myself create nonbinary characters for our representation and that having your character misgender ours might be a bit damaging or callous, especially since you’re assuming you’ll be able to know the gender they were assigned at birth.

Just a thought.
