When most of the company has military employees
instagram
Who agrees with @patrickbetdavid here?! Tag an entrepreneur in the comments below. - When someone starts in any branch of the military, they always go through something called “basic training.” - And for the majority of these folks, it’s anything but basic. It’s hard, it will test your mental endurance, physical endurance and commitment. It breaks men and then starts the process of rebuilding them. It will take a soft man and make him a bit harder. It will take a hard man and make him soft. - The real goal of Basic Training (beyond developing the disciplines) is to create a unit. - And based on Patrick’s experience they don’t really care if you like your drill sergeant, your peers, your bunkmate or anyone. The goal isn’t to get you to like them, the goal is to get you to work well with them toward the same goal, which in the military, is staying alive. - So you can either stay alive or you can die with your ego. - Battles are won and lost based on selfless acts or selfish acts. - One thing’s certain, our military doesn’t aim to create a selfish bunch of loners. They create wolf-packs. Commitment to the unit no matter the personal drama. - It’s the same way great sports teams are built. If one man screws up the play or drops the ball or misses the basket, the whole team suffers and does extra conditioning until they get it right together. - How is business any different. Your company will only ever perform the level of your weakest member. So don’t focus on petty bullshit or drama, focus on raising others up and working with everyone. . . . . #LohnnieGreen #divineopportunist #PHPagency (at South Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7RHayPJmrr/?igshid=6eftiq026om6

if an artist is showcasing their progress (ex. a comparison of an artwork from 2017 to 2020) avoid saying, "i prefer the first one better."
as an artist, this is hurtful and dismisses what we're actually trying to show u. we are trying to show u our progress, which we are most likely very proud of.
if u absolutely HAVE to say this, still acknowledge our improvement, please 🙏
thank you :)

Josh Goldberg: Variations in Art (And in Life), part two

In the previous post, I discussed how musician and composer Josh Goldberg uses the technique of variation to inform his creative process. As our original conversation progressed, though, it started to become clear that there’s more to process than just making art—after all, no artist exists in a bubble, and there are always going to be outside factors that influence the way one creates and interacts with their own work. At the same time, you don’t instantly become an artist the moment you decide you want to be one—that is to say, to become an artist, you have to actually make some art, which means investing precious time, money, and energy in developing your skill and realizing your vision. This investment will inevitably have an impact on other areas of your life, and if you want to live a healthy life while producing meaningful work, you have to find the right balance—you have to live like an artist.
As my conversation with Josh turned from the practical to the theoretical, he said something that struck a chord with me: “All of life is a series of themes and variations on what you know.”
