Bloodywood - Gaddaar 2022
Bloodywood is an Indian heavy metal band from New Delhi, formed in 2016. They began as a band that uploaded metal covers of pop songs on Youtube and later wrote their own music. Along with the messages included in their songs, the band aims to support various social/charity causes. With the release of the video for their song "Jee Veerey", they gave away pre-paid online counselling sessions. In a 2023 interview, Raoul Kerr claimed that the band's goal was "to channel their angst for the right causes and make people want to do something about them". Upon returning to India from their 2019 European tour, Bloodywood donated the earnings to Posh Foundation, a local NGO that cares for homeless animals, for the purchase of a new ambulance.
Rakshak ("Protector") is their debut studio album, independently released on 18 February 2022. The album's music is a blend of Indian folk music and heavy metal, while the lyrics are sung in the English, Hindi and Punjabi languages. The album entered the US Billboard charts, making Bloodywood the first Indian metal band to achieve such an accomplishment. The album has been successful on Bandcamp as well, where it topped the album sales of the platform upon release, ranked (as of early March 2022) as the 22nd all-time best-selling new release and as 3rd best-selling metal release.
The first single written for the album, "Gaddaar" ("Traitor"), was released on 9 November 2021 and features political commentary, exploring "how politicians rely on dishing out hate in order to gain votes and raise their political standing, and how one can rebel to break the cycle" while advocating for the separation of church and state.
"Gaddaar" received a total of 61,8% yes votes!

As a gardening enthusiast and gigantic RE nerd, I decided to take a crack at deciphering the flower symbolism in the 30th anniversary art nouveau illustration (that I need a print of immediately to go in my art nouveau-themed kitchen.)
Please note that this illustration was done by Capcom, a Japanese company, ergo the "flower language" used here is the Japanese hanakotoba -- NOT the more commonly known Victorian flower meanings. I used this website for my meanings, but the meanings probably differ slightly depending on where you look. I am neither an expert in hanakotoba NOR flower identification, but did my best to double check and look up pictures where I could. Please feel free to add addendums or corrections if you have sources for them.
Special thanks to the magnificent @loobywibble for assisting me with flower identification.
FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
Leon:
At first glance I thought this was a sunflower, but on closer inspection this appears to be a yellow daisy. The hanakotoba meaning for daisies is "innocence, beauty."
I THINK it's just a regular daisy, but the way the center of the flower is drawn reminds me of a gerbera daisy. A yellow gerbera means "warmth, sunshine, friendliness." Both of these seem appropriate for Leon, so I'll list them both. I don't know. Daisies are really hard.

Claire:
This is a lilac! I can tell from the buds and having seen many lilacs in my parents' backyard. The hanakotoba meaning for lilacs is "pride, beauty" which fits Claire to a T. A purple lilac can also mean "first emotions of love" so, make of that what you will.
Chris:
I think this was the hardest one. The flower is quite stylized but with the shape of the leaves and the blossom shapes we can make out, I think this is a gladiolus. In hanakotoba, gladiolus mean "strength of character, sincerity, preparedness, remembrance." Absolutely perfect for Chris. He's also wearing Piers' scarf, if you didn't notice. Awww. :(
Jill:
This is straightforwardly a lily of the valley. In hanakotoba, lily of the valley means "return of happiness, sweetness, humility, purity." I think the humility and "return of happiness" aspects are very appropriate for Jill. Lily of the valley is also, notably, poisonous when consumed! I don't think that has anything to do with assigning it to Jill but what with her magical T-virus blood... maybe?
Grace:
First off, next person who says it should be Ethan "how do I go on the poster when I have no face" Winters instead of the protagonist of the upcoming game they're hyping gets kicked in the shin. Grace is welcome here, leave her alone!
Anyway, I had never seen this flower before in my life, but my brilliant helper identified it as an ornithogalum, also known as a "snake flower" or Star of Bethlehem. It means "purity, reconciliation, hope." Given what we know about Grace and the plot of RE9, this seems fitting.

Ada:
Last but not least, Ada has a thistle. This would be a strange flower to put in a bouquet, but its meaning is absolutely spot on. "Independence, nobility of character, austerity, misanthropy." That's Ada all right.

Those are my best guesses for the flower symbolism in the illustration! Speculation, discussion, corrections, etc all welcome. I'd love to hear everybody's thoughts on the other symbols and details in the picture. It's really a beautiful piece and I am 100% not kidding about wanting it framed on the wall in my kitchen.
