Most religions appeal to our selfish nature, to live forever in some way. The ego does not want to die. But I think ego death through DMT or other psychedelics shows a deep truth that we are not individually important but rather a part of the big picture. Before breakthrough I bought the "net of being" poster by Alex grey and always thought it was an entity of some sort that he had met. Once I broke through I realized it is what you become, the one self, if you truly let go. So I believe when we die we return to this source of life along with the animals and plants, I think it's all connected. That is just my experience and what I've gathered from it though.
