“What if it’s Us?” book review!!
At first, it took a long time for me to really enjoy the book (as with every book i read, LOL). I forced myself to finish it after a year of procrastinating it and let me say, the past few days of reading it WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER. The entire book was very relatable because as a guy who is in a relationship with another guy, the experiences Arthur and Ben went through were very similar to what we experienced as well. The way Arthur and Ben went out to find one another in New York, the way they just clicked; their relationship wasn’t perfect and it was never going to be, but it was real and they made it work which is what made it beautiful. Whenever Arthur and Ben would fight or have a conflict, I’d feel conflicted as well; but to see them just bounce back from it and to forgive one another because they love each other was really something else ( in a good way). I love how different their personalities are, but how they managed to blend well together. Though they have different interests, they’re both willing to support one another and to give each other so much love. I also love the musical references and songs mentioned in the book too! The entire book also showed the friendships of Arthur and Ben with Juliet, Namrata, Dylan, Samantha, Ethan, and Jessie, and took place in many areas around New York, and to see that all come together was very nostalgic. The ending was the definition of bittersweet and it really made me want Becky and Adam to create a sequel for this book! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO ARTHUR AND BEN!! Overall, I’d give this book a 5/5 stars because it really was something new for me. I’ve never read a book that had two point of views (one from Ben and one from Arthur), the way it focused more on LGBTQ+ relationships and how it shows the reality of relationships: that it will never be perfect but it will be beautiful if both want to make it work. The book made my heartbeat race, it broke my heart at times, it made it whole again, it had kinky parts ;) , and it valued the importance of relationships with not only your partner but also family and friends. Definitely a read <3
