andrew joseph white…
i’ve never related to a book more than I did with Andrew Joseph White’ compound fracture—aside from the “killing the sherif and his kid and his friends and seeing ur best friend dead” part.
As a trans (ftm) kid myself, who’s from a very secluded part of West Virginia (War, West Virginia!!!!!) the descriptions of the old buildings, wild amount of churches, and little to no traffic lights made me feel like I was right at home. Miles’ mother didn’t want to accept the fact that he was trans for a good chunk of the book, similar to my father who knew I was trans but refused to acknowledge it. Miles is an anarchist, who is just trying to figure out his way through his teenage years.
My family has our very own murder mystery, which has fascinated me since I was little.
Miles is an amazing representation of what it’s like to be young, trans, on the spectrum, and overwhelmed in the secluded appalachian’s extremely well. This book pulled on my heart strings, so, thanks Andrew Joseph White.
