The Owl and Vulture in Gouache

Painting with gouache is tedious. One must be diligent and one must have the patience of a saint.

As I finally illustrate my chapter cover, I have been exploring gouache and its capability and whether it is really the perfect medium for me to use in my illustrations. I am a perfectionist--a virtue that is both a blessing and a curse. I have painted with watercolour for years but contemplated that it is not a better fit to complement my story. I have been writing--and continuing to do so--an Athenares fan fiction for a year and part of the process is to create illustrations to supplement the tale. Painting with gouache has since slowly displayed what I envisioned those scenes whirling in my head and written in my journal.

Greek goddess of Wisdom

It has been a while...

After all brutal pressure I put myself into as I balanced my very tight schedule, I am almost done with this gouache painting, centering the ancient Greek goddess Athena.

Aside from picking up my brush, papers, and paints, I also have to pick up my pen and glided it onto my journal as I continue with my fan fiction that is focused on Athena and Ares's relationship.

Thank goodness I still get to be an artist, feeding my hungry soul despite working a 9-5 job in a very bleak world.

Greek god of War

After some pauses because of busy schedule, I am finally finished with my gouache painting of Ares.

With elements of gold, red, purple--my vision of him was, at last, come into a tangible sight. Though you cannot clearly see his eyes, I am very much pleased to see his gaze be under the shadows.
